Rating: Summary: No opening credits.... Review: Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou for not including the credits before every show. That would irretate me to no end! Maybe they could make everybody happy by putting a full credit for the whole series on the last CD. I'm sure the text wouldn't take up much space on a DVD. Just tell us which episodes the actors played in. I have tried to tape every issue off of the TV. This was truly a pain and never quite worked. When my wife pointed this out at Sam's club, we bought the 1st session for $30.00. We will deffinately buy all of them. I've only made it through the first CD, but the quality and commercial free viewing is excellent in my book. remember, I'm used to watching taped VHS episodes! Get this series for your kids if not for yourself. There is just too much junk out there to pass this opportunity up.
Rating: Summary: Nearly perfect Review: Sometimes with older shows they have trouble restoring the footage to perfection, even for DVD releases. That was a problem on this series, you can tell. They did restore it and I feel it is much better than it would have been unrestored. But still the quality is a little rough. Not enough to detract me from wanting to own it.This show pressed the limits of what one family could go through. Each episode is filled with turmoil overcome by the human condition and our ability to prevail. This is a heart-wrenching series and it all started with this. The pilot episode can be purchased seperately also. Relive the lives of the ingles' with the first season of Little House on the Prairie. You will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Worth Every Penny Review: I ordered season 1 and 2 and watched every episode in order over a span of a few days. The video quality is very good. I have no complaints. I have to agree with some of the negative things regarding the audio. Season 2, Disc 6 had the noises and very brief moments of humming/static noise. The other discs were fine. Also, it seems like the speaking volume (when the actors talk) is much lower than the music. Many times I have to really turn up the volume on the TV to hear them talking, and then getting blown away when music plays because it's so loud. Despite these minor flaws, I recommend getting both season 1 and season 2, and each season as they are released.
Rating: Summary: Yes, I may be lame Review: I'm a 37 year old New York City Fireman. I need to admit and come clean that this show had a huge impact on my life and my morals. I am happy to have them and I hope my kids will enjoy it as much as I did. If this ever gets out I'm in big trouble at the Firehouse. BUT....show me a show that has ANY type of morals now a days. You can't. This is all about a family with a hard working dad, a great family and a cute dog. My kinda life. T
Rating: Summary: The perfect escape for these crazy times... Review: I am so glad this series is being rolled out by complete seasons on DVD. Some here complained that the opening credits only play at the beginning of each disc, not at the beginning of each episode. Others have countered that the opening credits and score can be accessed at the beginning of each episode if one selects each episode separately, rather than selecting "PLAY ALL". Perhaps it is dependent on DVD player, or perhaps different batches of DVD's, because on my copy the opening credits and score play only once, at the beginning of the first episode, regardless of whether or not I select "PLAY ALL" or individual episodes. Also, there is a glitch on the Quiz. When I go to the first page of the quiz, after about two seconds the DVD player stops and won't let me take the quiz. This happened on both an "El Cheapo" DVD player and a Pioneer DVD player. None of this, or any of the other complaints expressed here about the first two seasons, would prevent me from purchasing the third and fourth season when they arrive. Face it folks, this is your one chance, like it or not, to own or not to own this series on DVD. It is a collection of 25-30 year old TV material, and we aren't likely to see a re-release on DVD with Director's Cut and THX certified! If you don't get it now, don't ask to borrow mine later! 'nuff said.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Picture Quality!! Review: I agree with the last few reviewers, I think the quality of these DVDS are excellent! I will DEFINITELY be purchasing season two and will eagerly await more seasons to come! If you are a fan of Little House on the Prairie, buy this collection!
Rating: Summary: Would have given it 100 stars!!!! Review: This is a wonderful collection! If you grew up to and love this show as much as I do, then this is a collection you simply cannot live without!! My daughter is 9 and thinks it's the "best show in the world!" :) The sound and picture are wonderful! I plan on owning every season!! Well worth the money!!
Rating: Summary: I'm still laughing & crying & remembering lessons!. Review: Like another reviewer said DON'T listen to any of the naysayers!. I bought thet first two seasons on dvd-I'm SO happy to have them in my collection. The sound & picture quality (considering the shows age)are very good-and I'm fussy about that. The brilliant show that it was for young & old viewers in the seventies-has stood the test of time. Apart from a slight problem playing "If I should wake before I Die"-which I attribute to my dvd player being a 'dezoned' machine & not a multizoned one-I had no further problems. Also,it is possible to watch the full credits when selecting individual episodes-thanks for the tip from another reveiwer. I recommend, for the very low price, that all you Little House lovers should order these DVD collections NOW.The picture disks & wallets they come in are wonderful. A box of tissues for rewatching 'The Raccoon' & 'The Lord Is My Shepherd' will be necessary.I last watched & cried through them 31 years ago. I can't wait for the other seasons & special movies to come out.
Rating: Summary: Great release! Review: No need to be a huge fan of the show to enjoy this box set. Little House on the Prairie is part of our history. I didn't buy the previous DVD released last year, because there was a selection of a few episodes only. But this complete set is a must! The box is wonderful. And the picture quality is much much better than what we are used to watch on TV. Highly recommended! There is an official website, with weekly additions (very interesting anecdotes about the show and the actors) : [website]
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites... Review: There seems to be a need for 2 reviews here--one for content of Season 1, and one for the DVD programming. I must say I am shocked by the low reviews based on the DVD quality. Personally, I hate having to travel through the opening credits on each episode so I for one was glad they left them off. As an AVID TV-to-DVD-episode-watcher, I think this one is one of the best. As for content, I cry every time I see the first 2 episodes. Though the rest aren't quite as perfectly cnstructed as "Harvest of Friends" and "Country Girls," they are nonetheless touching adn entertaining. I love having something to show my kids that isn't full of explosions. TV today, especially for children, can make you drop 30 IQ points or commit a violent crime. Thank goodness for "Little House..." I am waiting with baited breath for the rest of the series.
