Summary: Please, don't stop!
Review: Nikita is to Alias (or Buffy, or etc.) as a Guinness Stout is to a Bud Light. I can't wait for the second season on DVD. Sign me up NOW!

Summary: viewer and LFN fan
Review: PLEASE, PLEASE consider releasing the other seasons (at least season 2) SOON! LFN on DVD is the best thing since sliced bread. I am a huge fan and was introduced to the show on USA network in the middle of season 3. Since the final 8 episodes, cancellation of its syndication on USA and I believe OXYGEN as well, I am left only with these DVDs. I would suggest this series to anyone who enjoys watching "smart television", meaning, if you like your tv with a little intellect and intrigue. Please offer season 2 soon, there is only so much of season one I can watch over and over again! :)

Summary: view Luc Besson's movie AFTER this, lest you be spoiled...
Review: View Luc Besson's movie "La Femme Nikita" *AFTER* you watch this season's worth of episodes. Otherwise you won't be able to concentrate. The movie is riveting, and was original enough to spawn a remake in the USA ("Point of No Return", with Bridget Fonda). But then there's this series, which begins with *yet another* remake... If you see the movie first, you won't be able to sit still for the hack job of the first episodes of this series. But they aren't awful: if you make it past the first 5, you'll watch through to the end, and might care enough to wonder how the cliff-hanger resolves.

Others reviewers compare this series to "Alias," mostly because of the premise (recruitment of an innocent into a secret cadre of ambiguously patriotic agents and even more ambiguous bosses) and their respective strong female lead characters. "Alias" is more engaging, though slightly less believable. (OK, it's all relative in this genre...) But Alias's multi-season story arc twists and turns delightfully, every season. The multi-season arc in Nikita is pretty straightforward, and the action scenes are not as integrated with the character development.

If you have never seen any of these -- and must choose, rather than buy them all -- I would purchase Luc Besson's original movie "La Femme Nikita", plus "Alias, Season 1" with the same dollars. (If you *must* see Joel Surnow's work, perhaps you want to buy "24, Season 1" instead.) But if you'd rather watch Peta Wilson's body than Jennifer Garner's in those action scenes, I couldn't blame you for spending the time and money to watch this series.

Review: It is great. Can't wait for the second season release.

Review: Although the cost is a little steep, the show itselft is still outstanding. Can't wait until Season Two.

Summary: Please hurry and release the other seasons on dvd!
Review: I can't believe how addictive this show is! I was channel hopping one night and tuned into LFN half way through the opening episode of season 4. What can I say? I was immediately hooked even though I'd never seen it before! I am also a fan of Alias, but this is even better. I was sooooo happy to discover the first season is available on dvd, now I only hope they release the rest so I can see what happens!

Also, even though it is a region 1 dvd, I'm very happy to say it does play on European multiregional dvd players!

Please hurry and release the other seasons!

Summary: great discs, Way too expensive
Review: This is a great set but it is way too expensive. Around $80 is just too much. Most (not all) tv series are around $50 per season. There isn't anything wrong with the dvd but the price means all but the most diehard fans will be willing to buy it. The makers have been quite dissappointed with sales and last i heard were very unsure if they would release the rest of the seasons.

I think were this priced more reasonable they would have more sales. But at nearly $80 dollars and roughly 8 seasons. (sorry i dont' remember the exact number) that is a lot of money. This is a cult series from a cable channel. It had a wide following but it wasn't Seinfeld in its popularity or the number of households it reached, therefore the potential dvd market is a bit smaller. Maybe that's why the price is high but i think it deters people. My friend was extremely excited to buy it until the price hit him square in the mouth. The problem isn't the product its just overpriced.

Summary: 6 stars is closer to it
Review: Before you buy this, go check the 1 & 2 star reviews. There aren't any (as of 11/15/03) with 170 reviews. The four "3-star" reviews basically lament that this isn't Luc Besson's soulless movie Nikita. There are five(5) 4-star reviews, and 161 out of 170 reviews give FIVE stars. How many Amazon products do you think have those stats?

There is a reason.

This is the most intelligent spy-adventure series ever done, TV or movies. It does not play dumb at *any* time. Watch Alias after this, and you will wonder what you ever saw in Jennifer Garner. And I loved Alias Season One.

BUT ... THIS ... STUNS!!!

The most remarkable thing is that all of Nikita was done before 9/11. When you see what's going on, this will become more and more remarkable.

One small problem: The studio can't seem to get out seasons 2, 3, 4 and the short 5th season. What dummys!!! They'll probably whine when the bootlegs show up, too.

Summary: Still the best
Review: This was a superbly produced and acted series. People all over have noted how many of the concepts of Alias seem to have been "inspired" by this series, especially during Alias' first season. Alias has better production values (because of a lot more money avaialbe per episode), and is a suspenseful series in its own right, but this is still the best.

While Jennifer Garner is beautiful and gets to wear fancier clothes, Peta Wilson is much more credible (Yes, guys, she's easy on the eyes as well). You actually Believe she is capable of doing the things here character does. Again, not taking away from Alias, it's just that this series was so much better. The plots were more intriguing and didn't depend on things just working out. You could actually see how the story got to there from here, and you accepted it. The actions of the protagonists, both good and bad and the moral numbness that many of the characters developed really came through. How Nikita kept here sanity and values through all she went through is handled very well.

So, why not give it 5 stars? Simply put: the price. Not Amazon's, they give a healthy discount, but the list price set by Warner on which Amazon's price is based. At $99.98 vs. $69.98 for Alias or $59.98 for Angel (not really in this genre but a great show), even with Amazon's good pricing a lot of people are going to be put off by the cost. Too bad. They're going to miss a great entertainment. Maybe Warner will wise up and price this set more realistically so that there will be enough sales to justify getting the rest of the series out on DVD.

Still, this show is the best!
