No more bad bootlegs or VHS! ...and I don't care what the cost. The true fans won't! ;) ANYWAY, Amazon is selling it significantly lower than the list price (so there's no need to complain)... well... what are we waiting for? Order it now! The more interest this set gets... the better chance of the other seasons being released. Wow, I'm a happy girl, and I can not wait for these DVDs to get here! ...*running off to brush up on her Kafka*
Rating: Summary: WRITING WRITING WRITING Review: Northern Exposure had some of the best television writing ever. I have been waiting for this to come out in DVD for a long time. I have all of the episodes taped on VHS, but this format will be much much better and commercial free. If anyone didn't catch Northern Exposure in it's original run, you should buy this DVD. Prepare to be taken away on an adventure to Cicely AK and have characters so richly written they will seem like old friends. Oh by the way...Any opportunity to see the elegant, beautiful and talanted Janine Turner should not be missed.
Rating: Summary: FINALLY!!! However... Review: Almost since the show began airing, I have been a fan of Northern Exposure. I made several trips to Roslyn, WA to watch filming (I even talked to John Corbett once!) and I used to buy everything and anything related to the show. In fact, it was more than TV to me, it represented a philosophy, an ideal way of life. I loved the depth and diversity of the characters, their interactions with one another, how they approached life and its conundrums with a certain wonder and intelligence... No TV show has ever portrayed human beings with such care and attention to what makes us essentially human. I'm glad that some episodes will finally be available on DVD (I have every one taped, but the quality is poor and degrading fast...) However, it seems a misnomer to call this set the 'first season.' I was under the impression that the first eight episodes were a mid-season trial run, not an official season. It would have been better to package these with the real first season. Oh, well... Kesho, Cicely!
Rating: Summary: The BEST Series EVER Review: Intelligent and beautifully written with a unifying theme in each remarkable episode. Excellent cast, perfectly chosen for their parts. This series just got better and better as it explored many diverse philosophical, ethical and social issues. Often very funny and touching at the same time.
Rating: Summary: AT LAST SOME EXPOSURE! Review: I've never seen an American show such as this. It's simply brilliant, it protraits almost every human behaviour, and it teaches a lot of lessons. And it finally arrives as a DVD pack! I don't know if anyone with direct contact with the DVD-makers reads this, but if they do, try do bring the show in DVD to Europe! I'm a buyer, that's for sure. I totally recommend "Northern Exposure", it's definitely a winner.
Rating: Summary: Northern Exposure on DVD at Last! Review: I was so happy when I learned that Northern Exposure was going to be released on DVD. I have waited so long for this, and I can't wait to receive my shipment of the first season. If you have never experienced Northern Exposure, this is one DVD collection that you will absolutely love. I am hoping that the other seasons will soon follow the release of the first one. This is my favorite all-time show. The characters made me want to move to Cicely Alaska to live with them! I have seen every episode muliple times, and I never grow tired of watching it. Northern Exposure was a really great show that will be awesome in DVD. You will not be disappointed if you purchase this series. You will be an instant fan!
Rating: Summary: Jesse was a great big bear Review: I can't quite express how happy I am knowing that episodes of "Northern Exposure" will be released on DVD. I remember coming across the show quite by accident in late summer 1990. I had been a big "Twin Peaks" fan that year and when I saw "Northern Exposure's" beautiful scenery, intelligent storylines and quirky characters I knew I'd come home. As much as I loved Agent Dale Cooper and the Log Lady, I felt more comfortable hanging out with disc jockey/philosopher Chris in the Morning and Native American filmmaker Ed Chigliak. It was a hip show with a heart. And in 1993 I nearly took a job working on the set in Roslyn, Washington. I sure wish I had gone ahead and done that. Is it just me or do you get chills remembering that scene where Holling buries the remains of Jesse the Bear as Enya's "Caribbean Blue" plays. If a show can affect you in that sort of way you know it's a classic. I hope Universal will released the entire series, even the ones with Dr. Capra (Paul Provenza) and Mike "BubbleMan" Monroe (Anthony Edwards). I'll buy 'em all. My tapes are falling apart!
Rating: Summary: Great product, Disgusting Price Review: Like the rest of you, I too have been waiting an ETERNITY for my NX to come to DVD. No reason to spout off reasons why NX is so great, we fans understand each other. However, I do agree with other writers that the cost is beyond ridiculous. Sadly, because of the excessively long wait, I will not be able to contain myself from shelling out this absurd amount of money for 8 episodes. However, that will not stop me from giving Universal a piece of my mind. Any of those who want to do the same, drop them a line and tell them what bastards they are. http://www.universalstudios.com/homepage/html/contact_us/contact_form.cgi?email_id=10
Rating: Summary: Can't wait to see the old NX gang again Review: Even though it's been off the air for a decade, I still think of Northern Exposure and miss it on a regular basis. This one is WAAAAY overdue, and I will shamelessly admit my willingness to fork over however much money they ask for this and future seasons, because to resist is futile. If you've never seen Northern Exposure and you're wondering what the fuss is about, just buy it and watch and you'll be hooked. Unless, of course, you just can't stand brilliant scripts, unique and lovable characters, stunning scenery, great music and the notion of a place where quirkiness is celebrated every day with reckless abandon.
