Summary: Best British Comedy Ever
Review: Patricia Routledge is brilliant as Hyacinth. Very few people watch this show and don't love it. We all know someone who Hyacinth reminds us of. Unlike the tapes the DVD includes outakes - It is funny to see Hyacinth actually burst out laughing when something unexpected happens. This is a great set - well worth the money.

Summary: Absolutely the Best
Review: Patricia Routledge is incredible and wonderful as Hyacinth, and the other case members are superb playing off of her antics. At last four discs with my favorite lady. My favorite episode has to be when Richard is dressed as Santa Claus with a case of mistaken identity. And I loved Ms. Routledge's Kitty monologues (good extra) on Disc 4.

Many thanks to the BBC for finally starting to release this series on DVD in complete seasons rather than odd shows on the video series. Now, when are the next seasons coming?? Please do not piecemeal this - we may all be dead by the time they are released!

The only complaint that I have is that there was only 3 minutes of bloopers on Disc 1, Disc 2 and Disc 3. The Absolutely Fabulous set has 15 minutes on each disc. I laughed almost as much watching Ms. Routledge trying to get her story correct - best line by Geoffrey Hughes "Your Hyacinth on the phone is better than Hyacinth in bed"!

Summary: brilliant and completely original
Review: Superb comedy about a pretentious, deluded, middle-class, middle-aged social climber. Buy it. A definite keeper - you can watch each episode many times and appreciate some nuance you missed in the last viewing. I think this was exceptional value for my money.

Summary: What were they thinking?
Review: The producers of this release had no respect for the programs or the people who buy them. I was shocked to see that each episode has, superimposed over them, SHOW 2 SERIES2, and the like. We all know the shows are great and the special features would be great (if I bothered to get past the first 2 minutes of the first show). My set is on it's way back to Amazon hoping I'll get a refund.

Summary: Great DVD, Lousy Service
Review: These shows are very funny. High quality, great humor, everything you look for in British comedy. I'll tell you what disappointed me, though, and that was the lousy service I got from Amazon.com. I ordered this thing from them on December 14th or 15th, and used their Overnight Super Saver shipping, which cost me nearly forty bucks. I wanted to make sure I had this thing delivered to me at my office before I left for Christmas vacation. Well, by December 22nd I hadn't seen my package, and their tracking indicated that nothing had happened. In all fairness, when I wrote to complain they immediately refunded the extravagant shipping charges, but they never offered to re-send the item, and as far as I can tell they never did anything to track it down. When I wrote to ask whether or not they planned on shipping the package, they refunded the rest of my money. Great. December 22nd and with no other presents for my sister-in-law, now I have to go out and find this thing. After a HUGE amount of searching, I finally went out and bought the thing for the retail price of $79.95, which actually was a huge savings over the shipping costs I would have paid to get the thing on time from Amazon.com. So thanks, Amazon.com, for saving me all that money! From now on I'll use your product reviews to see what items I should buy, then I'll buy them locally, especially when Christmas is approaching. I'll tell you what: considering that this is the business Amazon.com is in, they don't do that good a job, and any discounts they offer are more than eaten up by postage costs unless you use the free super-shipper offer. If they don't tighten up their act, Amazon.com will be nothing but an Amazon.bomb.

Summary: drop dead funny
Review: This brittish show is one of the true hidden gems of a comedy series.Unitl i saw it on pbs I never knew about it. It is so funny how Mrs.bucket(opps bou-ket) tries to impress everone with her fancy hats and her royal attitude. It may not be for everyone but i think you should watch at least 1 episode in its entirety before u say its boring. it just gets better and better. This is a must have set.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: This collection includes some of the funniest episodes that Roy Clarke filmed for Keeping Up Appearances. The holiday extras are especially good. My stepmother actually relates and sympathizes with Hyacinth - amazing!

I was a bit disappointed that this collection did not contain the episode where Hyacinth and Richard go yachting in a lake or the episode where Hyacinth plans a picnic with friends and takes everything but the kitchen sink. Still looking forward to the time when BBC will release all seasons.

Overall, excellent quality images and sound. Well worth the price

Summary: A true comedy classic
Review: This show has everything. Great actors, funny characters and excellent writing. Its sometimes said British humor does not work well in the US, but this show proves otherwise.
Each character is a joy to watch, especially in how they react to Hyacinth (brilliantly played by Patricia Routledge)
If you like well written US comedies such as "Cheers" or "Seinfeld", you will absolutely enjoy "Keeping Up Appearances"

Summary: Correction to the previous review...
Review: Violet has actually been seen several times, as has her home and Mercedes. Bruce, her husband, has also been seen at least once, if not more times.

Hyacinth's son, Sheridan, has never been seen; nor has Elizabeth's daughter, Gail.

Onslow's cousin, Ralphie has been mentioned, but never seen.

Richard's family has never been seen, so I'm assuming he has no surviving relatives on his side since he's never mentioned any.

All the stories are great, although sometimes they do leave you hanging at the end. Like when "Daddy" steals Richard's car there's a funny car chase thru the countryside until Onslow's car blows a gasket. We never find out what happens to Daddy and Richard's car. The episode simply closes with the Viccar giving the family a ride to Ralphie's house to get a mattress, then they get pulled over and its over.

I always figured that if the wreck in Daisy's yard bothered Hyacinth so much, why not just offer to have it towed away and salvaged? Onslow had no interest in it anyway.
