Summary: BtVS Jumps The Shark
Review: Season Six started out well enough, but it will be forever remembered as the Season BtVS jumped the shark. And the episode in which Jaws makes the definitive appearance is not, as many will tell you, Seeing Red...but Hell's Bells. Most reviewers will concentrate on their least favorite episode for the shark jump. For me, that would have to be DoubleMeat Palace (also here) which is the only episode in 7 years that I erased after watching it. But I say Hell's Bells because it is the episode where we begin the devolution of character that unfortunately marked the last Season (7) of this stellar show.
What's good here? Every episode up to Smashed. Dead Things and it's companion piece Seeing Red (though both are difficult to watch) and Normal Again. Performances by Marsters and Geller and Amber Benson and the Trioka. Also, every twist in this season is, in my opinion, foreshadowed in the story arc...so there is still BtVS magic here. But the execution of much of the storyline, especially from Seeing Red on was pathetic. It's just badly written and the actors had to be hammered into their roles, many times looking nothing but confused by the proceedings. Most tragic of all, many of the questions raised (and they were BIG questions about life and love and forgiveness and the nature of evil) went completely unanswered even at the end of the series. In fact, had the series ended differently this Season might have been redeemable...as it is...what we have here is the beginning of the end...the devolution of a truly original and much loved cultural icon.

Summary: Not the best season, not the worst. (season spoilers)
Review: Buffy the Vampire Slayer returned to our TV screens in the fall of October 2001, and not just from hiatus, from death. The season started out with a bang, a 2 hour premiere showing Buffy's return and trascendence into her after life. But all is not well in the Buffyverse, nothing will be. It is soon revealed that Buffy was in heaven, but she was pulled out by her well-intentioned friends, and thrust into the world of death, loneliness, and debt. All real things that happen to people. This season was highly underrated by the fans for it's use of sex and violence to display human behavior. Buffy seems to think that when she came back from heaven, something was wrong with her, because Spike can now hit her. This leads to a very violent relationship strictly sex on Buffy's part, but more for Spike, who begins to fall madly in love with her. This season all of the scoobies come to realize that they are now adults, they don't have an older, wiser person to watch over their shoulder, to tell them what and what not to do. They get to make all their choices, and not all wlll lead to a good outcome. This is a reality all too real for Buffy, who has to become a mom to Dawn now that Joyce is gone, with only the help of her friends now that Giles, her Watcher has left for England. Tara starts to realize that Willow has a problem with majick, and this puts a strain on the relationship, which leads Tara to leave Willow. Willow soon goes over the edge, not only endangering herself, but Dawn. This is a real thing that happens to people in life (not magick overdose, "addiction") which is a very real thing for Willow. After nearly killing Dawn, Will forces herself to sober up. Dawn is a teenager, and just in life as any other teen does, she goes through angst, stealing, lying. Xander and Anya seem to be the only ones in the group that have everything going for them,now that they are engaged and planning a wedding, but it all ends when Xander leaves her at the alter. Many fans criticized this season for being too depressing, too dark, but that's life, it hurts, it makes you depressed, and it's real. Life in Sunnydale for the gang wont always be happy, and this season perfectly portrays the reality of growing up, going through angst, having an addiction, dealing with death. All real. Buffy and co. are not robots, they have feelings, and emotions. By the end of the season, Tara is tragically shot which leads Willow to go over the edge and kill the murderer, and she is ultimately stopped by Xander, who professes his love to her. The thing that makes Tara's death so painful, is that it is a real death. Just like Joyce, Tara did not die because of a spell, a vampire, she was killed by a human being, not being heroic, just killed. Ultimately this season is one of Buffy's greatest! It is the most real, and heartbreaking of them all. With some of the best episodes: Once More, With Feeling, Tebula Rasa, Smashed, Wrecked, Gone, Hell's Bells, Normal Again, Entropy, Seeing Red, Two to Go, and Grave. This show is not about vampires and evil, it's about people, and how they deal with situations. It's about life.

Review: I'm not going to go into much detail about how the writing was and the story arcs, simply because I don't think about that as much while I'm watching tv, but I will write this from an average joe's point of view. First off, it should be said that I had watched Buffy since it first aired on tv, and I loved basically every episode. The relationships between the characters were great, the monsters of the week were entertaining, and most of the time the Big Bads were great, too (except Adam - he looked like something out of a bargain bin computer game)... Then came season six. It was like Joss hired a bunch of MTV writers to replace the ones who left to write for Angel. Before I start, though, I want to say that I really, really tried to like this season, but I honestly couldn't do it. Most of these reviews are saying that they hate the Troika, but I found them amusing, merely because they took my mind off of the "adventures" of the scooby gang going on elsewhere. Sure, I'd rather watch Jonathan and Andrew fight with plastic lightsabers instead of Buffy and Spike's pseudo-relationship. I'm reading a lot of commentary from the "Pro-6's" that this season was good because life caught up with them, and they were left to deal with stuff on their own. Since when the hell is that good?? Last time I checked, most people don't watch fantasy tv shows like this because they're realistic. We want an escape from reality. Saying that it's good that they all had to deal with such "real life" is like watching you're best friend's marriage fall apart and saying "well, that was really awesome because now they've gotta start dealing with REAL problems! Glad I'm not the only one!" If I wanted realism like this I'd have stayed in high school. I found that NONE of the main characters this season were very likeable, with the exception of Giles, merely because he left for the bulk of it and then laughed at Buffy's synopsis of what happened to them all. Spike was almost completely unlikeable throughout the whole season, merely because he seemed to be a walking erection for Buffy. I didn't find Buffy likeable because of her malaise attitude towards life, and her situation with Spike. I'd much rather see her killing monsters (how many vamps die this season, like 4 or 5?) than having sex IN AN ALLEY (or in a crypt, or in any other place that they marked their territory) with Spike. Xander and Anya were deemed completely useless after their wedding debacle, thus robbing them of any humor left to contribute to the show. Dawn was completely useless and unlikeable since season 5, and should have been killed at the end of season 5, thus preventing this season from being the way it was (see? it's all HER fault!). And now the really "interesting" couple on the show: Terra (tara?) and Willow. Wait, no they're not ("but they're gay, they have to be!" - nope, still not interesting) Terra was brought into the group only by Willow, and didn't seem to ever serve any real purpose (although I thought making her temporarily retarded in season 5 was hysterical), and as a result I wasn't bothered by her death at all. I will say, though, that Alyson Hannigan does a great job of freaking out when Terra's shot, but it seems like they didn't try very hard to make Dark Willow a major part of the season, when she had definite potential to be. Furthermore, her "struggle" with magic use has been done sooooo many times before that it puts me to sleep thinking about it. Ultimately, they screwed the pooch this season, and as a result I would NOT pay the retail price for this season on dvd. They took the characters down unnecessary, TOTALLY uncharacteristic paths filled with "drugs", sex, and eventually murder. Take out the monsters, and replace the characters with LAPD cops and this could be a James Elroy novel. But then again he's infinitely more creative than anything that the writer's pooped out this season, huh? Oh yeah, and for the record, I didn't care for "Once More, With Feeling" because, well, it was really boring and 3/4ths of them aren't physically capable of singing. Blech.

Summary: The Season I Began to watch....
Review: Remember a few years ago when there was all the hype around the net saying "Buffy's over!" but many people knew it was moving to UPN? Well I heard a lot about this so I decided for the first time to become interested in the show. I think the first episode I watched was "the gift" on the wb and I thought WTF is going on? I was previously a non believer, I thought only certain types of people watched Buffy and even though many fans make this out to be the worst season it's the season that made me a believer, well aside from doublemeat palace. ;) Barganing was a terrific way to bring Buffy back, and the cgi effect over her skelton turning back human creeps me out to this day. Tabula Rasa is a funny episode in which everyone looses their memory, Normal Again asks the question what if none of this is real? And come on who really didn't like the Willow arc at the very end? AH did a wonderful job! And finally we can't forget the magnificent Once More With Feeling, the widescreen musical. I mean honestly how can ANY true Buffy fan rate this season so bad that the show only has an adverage customer review of 4? You should be ashamed because you know Buffy is still better than most shows on T.V. Anyway this season made me love the show and now I'm a huge collector or all the dvd's, merchandise, etc. and I love this show so much! Buy the set, espically since the extra features are nice too. ;)

Summary: The Bestest Buffy Moments in One Season
Review: This season opened up many doors for my into the world that i now call Sunnydale. This season showed real life problems for my "not-so-real" freinds in Sunnydale. Everyone learns that Buffy was in Heaven in the show stopping episode "Once More, With Feeling", Buffy gets a job (and let me tell you, when she thought she was getting into something normal people do, she was totally wrong) and the trio...........so innoying, but adding a sense that Buffy is a person too, and that everybody has a weak spot. To wrap it up, we see the real Buffy, bot just some made up character, for the first time since the episode "Angel" so save your money and go buy this season, knowing that it is one of the most thought provoking seasons EVER!!!

Summary: Buffy for grown ups
Review: A number of the negative reviewers here persistently made a false statement, and that is that the ratings of Buffy in the Sixth season fell off. They did a bit, but this can partly be attributed to its shifting over to a new and vastly smaller network, UPN. In fact, Buffy's viewership did not fall off by much, and in fact kept remarkably steady figures all the way up until it ended. So, the negative prognostications are unfounded. I won't say this is true 100% of the time, but I'd bet you that most of the negative reviewers are younger viewers. Personally, as an adult struggling with adult problems, bit LOVED the serious, grown up problems Buffy had to struggle with. I know what it is like to have to take cruddy jobs that are dull and unchallenging. I have found myself in some destructive relationships. In other words, I identified a lot with Buffy in Season Six.

Review: Please, I don't mean to be so blunt, but...
This is show is called 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'...Not 'Action Heartless,Super Robot Vampire Slayer'. Also,this is a place to review the season, not bash the show into griny tiny pieces, or did I misunderstood the point? This show is about a girl, and her friends.Not action tromping girl power rules wild. This show is about these person's lives. This show was about how they deal. We all know that, we should know that, even the writers told us that. You all say this season got too soap opry, but hey, look at Season 2, its the biggest soap opra season ever created, and you all still like it. Those who take these people's reviews to heart must not have a mind of their own. Really. I know art, and story. I'm a writer for crackers sake, and this season is no different than any other produced from the series. As long as I have watched this show, what got me interested was that these characters went through real life themes, and the strong writing from the writers. I still saw that in the series, right until it showed its very last shot. If people paid more close attention to the story of the season, things have been foreshadowed about Season 6 since the early seasons. I know Seasons 3-5 have foreshadowed this story that was produced in this season. The story was as strong as ever. Things connected to the very end. If that isn't great storytelling than nothing is in this world. So many fans turn this season down the drain. Why? Are there not fans who enjoy great writing? This isn't 'Star Trek' people, this is a drama series, and when you invest in a series, you expect fully everything there can be. Some seasons may be action, or drama, or soapy. Thats the formula of this series, or did you all not know? This season was great. Depressing for the characters, but great. I enjoyed every season from this show. This show was a part of me, and it hurts everytime I hear fans trash talk it as a 'Has Been' show. You'll know the feeling when something this important embraces your heart. Honestly, if the stories were bad in the end, I wouldn't have continued to watch...Thats who I am. I can't believe anyone would trash the series like they do the movie...thats low! Anyone wanting to collect the "Buffy" series, go ahead, and view it with your own opinion,watch the reruns, and be the judge yourself, because honestly, you're not going to get a true opinion by hearing these people. I've read these people's reviews, and it has made me dislike the series whenever I read them. I can't believe them, because what they say, is not what I see when I watch the reruns, or the later seasons. Be your own judge, thats how the truth will show you what this season was, or how outstanding this series was to me, and to other people who have enough respect for the series, to keep the memories alive, than wish them dead.

Review: This season of Buffy is when they jumped the shark. First off the name of the show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but Buffy doesn't slay many vampires this season. Plus "the Trio" Give me a break! We go from The Master to the love of her life Angel then the mayor then Adam and Glory. Now three nerds. I know Willow becomes the bad guy. It upsets me that first they mess up Buffy with the sleeping with spike thing and then they make buffy the bad guy with the "i'm gonna kill all my friends cuz i wanna stay in a mental ward." Then Xanders the bad guy with the leave Anya at the alter thing. Then willow with distroy the world thing and spike with the rape buffy thing its just all wrong its not Buffy. Buffy was a cool action show that was also funny but in season 6 it wasn't funny. The only good thing about this season is the musical but even then the songs are kinda depressing

Summary: Why so much flaws when such a great concept?
Review: Please, don't get me wrong and I beg those who loved it to forgive me, but I found this season deeply disappointing. I really understood the dark concept of the season, the dramatic twist needed after something as strong as Buffy's dead had to be huge just as the season pretended. But it failed, and believe me, that made me go through a crisis because Joss Whedon is one of my heroes. I tried to like it, I really tried, but it wasn't enough... A lot of people found this season interesting, and believe me, I did too. It wasn't a horrible season, but it was not "Buffy" anymore. Joss Whedon had me glued to my TV after the extraordinary concept introduced in season one, the gothic feeling of season two, the amazing, intelligent and powerful season three, the well executed season four that proved a series can take risks and survive, and course, the unforgettable, epic, beyond words and unbelievable season five. But season six lost it. It seemed to me more like a supernatural soap opera rather than the epic and magical TV series it used to be. The darkness was badly handled through a melodramatic touch that contrasted too much with the comedy, leading to horrible things like a shark headed mafia demon and the cancelled "(cartoon circus) wedding" that just made me feel there was no more climax with the story arcs of the principal characters. The 3 geeks were funny but should not have been treated as season villains, they just didn't have enough dramatic force to interact with Buffy that way. Perhaps, this lack of climax is what ruined the good character development of the season (one of the good points) to me. Willows fall to darkness came to late. The intention of bringing the Scooby Gang as the season point of development wasn't fulfilled properly. Willow herself had her great moments, but both her fall and recovery were to sudden (the antecedents of the event were good, but the change of heart still was too abrupt), almost like improvised (I know it wasn't, but it felt like that if compared to the excellent story development of previous seasons) Perhaps one of my problems was that the scripts of the season felt a little amateur. The idea was good, but the execution lacked something. My guess is that it wasn't good for the series going to UPN. In the other hand, there are some good points about the season like Spike's character development and Buffy's desperation to handle a house and a sister. The twists were also good (but lost a lot of power due to the bad storytelling) The season itself is worth for fans and those who loved the style of the season. But in my case, despite been a big fan I think I'm going to buy season five and consider it the end (and what a great end) of it. Season seven was better than season six, in fact it had a wonderful big bad, but the tone was still polluted (specially with the addition of Andrew - I hated so much he survived and Anya didn't, hadn't that freak been there I would have enjoyed the show) The point is that I can live without the DVD's of the last two seasons, but I can't without the ones first five seasons. I'll keep the VHS's where I recorded season six and seven, but the economy isn't great and I don't think it's worth the money. Season six was just good TV, but it had a lot of flaws and it wasn't "to die for..."
