Summary: great - even without the pilot
Review: Incredibly clear dvd ... I too wish the pilot was there, but it's easy to get one from ebay. Not as clear as this one, but at least you'll own it on dvd. Looking forward to the second season ...

Summary: best show ever...
Review: ...well that goes without saying. i'm not even going to get into all the tv shows that owe a debt to twin peaks (x-files, picket fences, buffy the vampire slayer, northern exposure)...yea, the pilot is missing (has got to be something contractual) so i couldn't give the package five stars. but the pilot IS available
on dvd as an import - check e-bay...anyway, i've started to delve into the special features and the whole set-up is pretty damn cool. not to metion how crisp the picture and sound are compared to my ten year-old vhs tapes. this is a MUST for any true twin peaks fan OR a newcomer. just make sure to watch the pilot first,
just as miguel ferrer (albert rosenfeld) succinctly points out in
the extras...although i thought twin peaks was excellent (for the most part) its entire short-lived run, it really never got any better than these seven episodes...

Summary: You'll Love This Show! (Beware the cheap packaging!!)
Review: Twin Peaks is still one of the most brilliant shows to hit the air. Glad it's finally out. The extras are kind of fun, and I'm not even mad about the Pilot not being in the first season set (it's out there on DVD if you look hard enough:).

However, what was Artisan thinking when they released it on those cheap discs in bad packaging? Let's see how much money we can save, obviously. I cracked the inner ring of the first disc when I pulled it out (yes, while pressing the release button). Did you notice how hard it was to get the discs out? Eyeball the discs and see if they're shattering already.. I bet you they are. Couldn't they have utilized packaging like the X-Files sets? I guess that's why it's called the Special Edition as opposed to the Collector's Edition.

My only other complaint is that I returned the set twice, both times because there were scratches that spanned the length of the fourth disc, and there was some sort of white goo, too. Yuck! A friend of mine had the same problem (from a different store). I finally got a set with only minor scratches. Get it together Artisan.

Overall, the set is great, but make sure to check out the discs for scratches and goo when you purchase it, pull out the discs (carefully) and put them in separate cases if you care about DVD reruns, and tell Artisan that we want more for our money when season two comes out!

Summary: The show that saved television for the nineties
Review: Okay, after waiting the two extra weeks for the release, from what I understand it was due to high demand, I faithfully went out and bought the DVD set today(Dec 18th) and boy my import DVD of the pilot really looks shoddy now in comparison to the brilliant transfers of the original series and the DTS sound and the packaging of this box set is very sweet. It DOES look and sound better than when it origianlly aired 11 years ago and broke the ground for such shows as The X Files Northern Exposure and American Gothic. If you are a Twin Peaks fan do not deny yourself. Make it a Xmas present for yourself. The extras do leave a little to be desired, but it has been said the extras on subsequent releases (and the more the first season sells the sooner we get the second season which may be in two separate sets) the extras are going to be even phatter. I have only watched the first disc so far (eps 1 and 2)and the extras (on disc 4) and I was blown away. The deep textures and feel of the show is beautifully maintained and looks fantastic and Angelo's score really stands out revealing the genius he is in his own right. I would recommend buying the import DVD and there are many to be had on Ebay (mainly because it looks better than my 11 year old copy of the original airing or any previous VHS release) even if the sound quality is a bit distorted at times, just because we may never get the pilot on DVD. There are no deleted scenes but there are script notes in the chapter selections for each ep which describe with text altered dialogue and deleted scenes giving fans a real inside look at the development of the series. The commentary is intersting and I personally like that they added the "previously on Twin Peaks" intros to each show like when it aired on TV. The one bright spot of the extras is the "Twin Peaks Directory" that starts with Laura Palmer where fans can get lost in the different characters and their various relationships to each other including bios and filmographies and in some cases "Video Postcards" which are excerpts of interviews ranging from how they got involved with the show or glimpses of their home life etc. Like Richard Beymer's psychedelic trip down the Amazon and Al Strobel's poignant story of the accident(when he was 17) which cost him his arm. It is a true delight for fans. And the extra an "Introduction to David Lynch" gives an insightful journey through vatious interviews on what it's like to work with him and work on the show. I can't say enough about how good these shows look. I kept saying "This looks fantastic" and "There is no other show like this nor will there ever be again." It dared the television audience to use their minds and get lost in the characters and their intertwining relationships to the point where you didn't care who killed Laura Palmer because there was so much more to dive into besides the main arc of the series. Don't hesitate. Go buy it now, because I want the second season to come out ASAP. I would give five stars but I adamantly agree Artisan should have went the extra mile to get the pilot. And in closing, something I noticed. The Republic Pictures emblem is on this DVD set. Well, guess what? It's on the import DVD of the pilot as well, so what's the problem? I'm guessing it had something to do with the European release of the pilot with the alternate ending but who knows for sure I don't even thinks Artisan does. Dust off that recipe for cherry pie, put on some coffee and invite your friends over for a Twin Peaks party, especially those who haven't seen it before (costume optional).

Summary: Not including the Pilot - ruined the DVD
Review: I wish I had read the reviews before I bought the DVD today. When I played the first episode (believing it to be the "first" episode, hence the very first time we see any of the characters...) it was preceeded by a "previously on Twin Peaks..." I couldn't believe the DVD was released without the pilot attached to it...why even bother? For people like myself who haven't seen this show in over 10 years, it's hard to remember all that happened in the very first show. "The First Season" - right. Just don't expect it to be "The COMPLETE First Season". Extremely disappointing.

Summary: The Best Television Series Ever
Review: This is without a doubt the most creative, though provoking, startling, and visually pleasing television series ever produced. The one downside to this DVD set is that it is missing the pilot episode. HOWEVER, if one is willing, the pilot episode can be obtained via many online auctions. It was released in limited production in parts of Asia. Now all we need is for Fire Walk with Me to be released, and we can all sitt back with a piece of cherry pie and a damn fine cup of coffee and enjoy the series!

Summary: Where's the Pilot?
Review: Twin Peaks is a great show, and I cannot add any unique praise. But where the heck is the Pilot? Episode one of the DVD starts out "...previously on Twin Peaks..." The creators of this set really missed the mark by omitting the pilot. Also, a good navigable menu is really nice, but this one is not designed well. I'm sure we will watch it over and over, nonetheless. So 5 stars for an interesting show and 1 star for the DVD itself.

Summary: QUIT YOUR PILOT WHINING!
Review: Everyone who's pissy about the pilot should know that Artisan tried really hard to get it. They should also know that the pilot is available on factory-sealed on regionless NTSC DVD from many HK eBay dealers. You could probably find at least 10 on sale right now. For anyone in L.A. or S.F. you can also get it at AMOEBA RECORDS.

Summary: Absolutely beautiful
Review: THE PILOT - .... The pilot has been in stores (yes, on DVD) as an import for well over a month. Silver Platters, Tower, Scarecrow Video....

The Episodes - The sound is hypnotizing, the graphic clarity is unbelievable. There are some scenes with hints of grain, but even these scenes are far better than anything we've ever seen - even the original broadcast. The music is rich and deep, and the sounds are clean. The only real complaint I have is that the case doesn't hold the last (fourth) disc in; this may be a defect exclusive to my case, but I thought I'd mention it.

The Special Features - Some are fascinating, some are a drag. It's fun to dig through them, and you're sure to find something interesting, but you'll probably be left wanting more. Most disappointing was that I especially wanted to see cut scenes, outtakes, more pieces of the Twin Peaks world... maybe they'll come with the 2nd Season DVDs or Fire Walk With Me.

Summary: Wonderful edition!
Review: I must admit...it's very odd seeing these episodes in their natural color after spending so much time with the VHS edition...but that passed rather quickly! :-) This is what I wanted to see - a good transfer, interesting extras...even the packaging is a treat. Obviously, the lack of commentary by Lynch is a disappointment (although not a real surprise), but that aside (I've experienced some minor video glitchiness along the right edge of the screen, but I think that's my aging TV!), the only thing I can say about this edition is that I hope the remainder of the series is given this kind of fine treatment! Great work, Artisan!
