Summary: WHAT A GYP!!! ONLY BUY IF YOU ENJOY BEING DISSAPOINTED
Review: i have always been a HUGE fan of Lynch's work and couldn't wait for Twin Peaks to be released on DVD but on getting the box set, what do I find? The 90-minute pilot is MISSING so unless you've already seen the series previously or have no sense of continuity, then a huge chunk of the plot, the fun, the atmosphere is missing.sure, a summary is included with the box set, but why not save yourself ($$$) and just find an online review of the whole series and read that instead? Artisan seem to think that a summary is enough for how it all began, so why bother yourself by watching the rest of it? Wouldn't have been soooooooo upset if the packaging had at least give some clue to the absence but no, it quite clearly states THE FIRST SEASON. the technical quality of the set, however, is great - the commentaries and additional features are brilliant, but i would happily have swapped them for the FIRST EPISODE.

Summary: WHERE IS THE PILOT?!?!??!?!?
Review: I absolutely loved this series and am happy to be able to get some of it on DVD. (I still have a copy of "Laura Palmers Diary") But it's been WAY too long since I saw the pilot, and it wasn't included in this set! It _really_ needs to be offered as another DVD.

Summary: TP: At Long Last
Review: This DVD collection combines the best experiences from watching Twin Peaks on television. It brings with it the original episodes and the recap of previous episodes as seen on network, but also allows us to watch the Log Lady monologues that were only available when the show replayed on the Bravo network. Sound and picture quality, of course, better that how we originally saw it. Nice features in the DVD without going over the top. I only hope that when they release the Pilot it will be the actual pilot as broadcast on network and not the "European Version" that is currently the only version of the pilot available on VHS.

Summary: The legend grows......
Review: David Lynch's reputation grows with this DVD boxed set review. Without once appearing on camera, there are many more than happy to wax lyrical about his massive influence upon their careers. Dozens of the shows stars appear in brief interviews to discuss their memories of the show. It is very interesting to see how they have changed, or not in some cases, over the 12 years period since series one was filmed. The show content itself? Outstanding. After recently selling off my VHS collection, I was eagerly awaiting this first DVD release. I know it was bigger in the US than over here in Scotland, but no programme has ever had a bigger effect on me than Twin Peaks. Anyone interested in buying this item will no doubt already have seen the legendary show, or at least been given a hearty recommendation from someone who has. This is not available in the UK yet so I was grateful to purchase it on amazon.com, I am VERY keen to know when the second series will be launched in a similar crystal clear format. THANKS!!

Summary: burn the fans?
Review: I have to reiterate what a lot of these reviews say. I bought the box expecting "The First season," but what I got was "The First Season Excluding the necessary, informative pilot."
The big problem I have is this: why burn the fans? I would expect about 90% of the people buying this would be Twin Peaks fans who can recite the quirky dialogue. These are die-hard viewers who have suffered with the VHS version long enough. The DVD's look great, there's no complaining there.
These fans will keep Twin Peaks alive and popular for years to come, why spite them? Why rip them off? Why deceive them with this phony "First Season?"
Being a fan, yes, I will buy the pilot if and when they release it. Will I be happy? No. Will I praise the money-hungry studio execs who pine for my every dollar? No. Will I continue to be a fan? Yes. Do I respect the series? No.
Apologies are needed all around, and you can start with the fans.

Summary: Excellent collection, even without the pilot
Review: First off, for all the people who complained that the pilot was not included, it's a shame, but while the television series is owned by Artisan Entertainment, the pilot is owned by another company. Given the circumstance, this is without a doubt one of the best DVD collections released to date. Technically superior, the bit rate is on average 9, as opposed to the superbit collection which tops out at 8, and regular dvd's, which are in the 6-7 range. From what I understand, this is one of the best looking transfers ever. As for the actual content, well, neither me nor my roomate had ever seen Twin Peaks before, being too young when the show was on, and even without the pilot, we sat rapt throughout the seven episodes on this disc. We couldn't stop watching them, and ended up doing the whole set in one night. This is great, great stuff, which has obviously had serious influence on other shows that followed it. In closing, if you like Twin Peaks, or David Lynch, or great television that really makes you think, then buy this set. This is the only way that Artisan will release the following seasons, and possibly acquire the rights to the pilot to release it as well.

Summary: The Missing Pilot
Review: The issue of who owns the pilot and who's allowed to distribute it has been fought over for years, which is why it's not included in this set. But a DVD version of the pilot does exist, and it's not a bootleg and it although it's a Japanese import it works fine on domestic players and is inexpensive. I got mine for twenty bucks from a seller on eBay. It's not perfect, but it's far better than the VHS version. (...)

Summary: the owls are not what they seem
Review: I'm happy as a small cat in hell that they finally released this on DVD. I've been waiting for what seems like forever. This is 100 percent better than the VHS box set in quality. I can't believe someone suggested to burn your VHS tapes onto DVD. The point of DVD is the QUALITY. That is enough reason right there to buy this set. (...) There's no reason to get upset with Artisan about (the missing pilot episode). They tried to get the rights to it but Warner Bros. wouldn't sell. Which means, they probably have their own plans for it in the future. Now all we need is Season TWO and FIRE WALK WITH ME!!! I'm not kidding here, this is the best TV series ever made. I strongly urge you to stop reading these reviews and get these DVD's!!! You will be happy you did!
