Review: What a mistake. This DVD set doesn't include the pilot. You are left with a brief synopsis of what happened in the pilot at the beginning of the first episode. Terrible, terrible, terrible! I guess I'll need to buy the separate pilot DVD.... Oh wait, its not available. Shoot me.

Summary: An outstanding DVD issue of the best television series ever!
Review: First of all, to resolve some of the confusion over the absence of the pilot from this box set, this is not the fault of Artisan and Republic Pictures. I am sure they would have gladly included the pilot, IF only they owned the rights to it. Unfortunately, whoever does own the rights to the pilot has no plans to release it on DVD. Warner released the pilot on video (you should be able to find this at your rental store); however, be forewarned that it is the expanded feature-length version produced for distribution in Europe, so do not watch the last fifteen or so minutes. It attempts to resolve in that short time what Lynch could not do in 29+ episodes. Moreover, it will spoil for you Cooper's dream with the dancing man, which is among the most memorable moments from the first season. As one reviewer has already pointed out, the pilot was released in Asia on a region-free DVD, which is abailable on the net. Personally, as a dedicated follower of the television series, I am not too distraught over the absense of the pilot from this series. Granted, if you have never seen the series, you should view the pilot prior to episode 1. Nonetheless, while the pilot is well-written and directed, it far outstripped in quality by episodes 1-7. It is also amazing that, in lamenting the absense of the pilot from this set, some people have altogether ignored in their reviews the overall excellence of this box set. This is without a doubt one of the most outstanding DVD issues I have seen. With a newly-remastered digital transfer, which far surpasses the high quality of even the laserdisc transfer, Twin Peaks has never looked better. Moreover, with DTS digital surround sound, the series has never sounded better. The whole first season could have easily fit on 2 discs; however, Lynch has rewarded the loyal followers of this series with a 4 disc set, which makes possible the DTS sound and the numerous extras, which even includes the Log Lady introductions produced for Bravo. This box set will be a benchmark with which to compare future DVD releases. Now, hopefully Artisan will release the remaining episodes with a similar committment to quality.

Review: The reason the pilot isn't included is because Artisan doesn't own the pilot/first episode, Warner Brothers does. Maybe WB will get their act together now and release it. There is a Thai released DVD of the pilot available on Ebay.

Summary: Pilot movie owned by another production company
Review: For those of you who wondered why the pilot was not a part of this release, the pilot is owned by another production company. Hopefully, the pilot will be released some day... With or without the pilot, the first season of Twin Peaks is excellent. The DVDs are so crystal clear and the sound is great (5.1 DTS). You can really appreciate the ones directed by Lynch. They are outstanding.

Summary: Caveat Emptor
Review: It means, "buyer beware" as I'm sure most of you know. The pilot is missing from this set, yes. .... The set itself is stunning, both in it's packaging and contents. Each episode can be preceeded by a Log-lady intro of that episode... mostly enigmatic rants about light and dark... owls and such. The menus are beautifully made up from images from all the episodes, and the DVD becomes an experience, not just something you watch. Bottom line - Get over the exclusion of the pilot. You can get it elsewhere. Concentrate instead on the incredible work and thought that was put into this special edition (more "special" than most I've ever purchased). This was worth more than I paid for it, and I eagerly await Season 2.

Review: Yes, it's annoying to not have the pilot in the set. Unfortunately the rights to the pilot are held by someone else. Someone who obviously has the business sense of a gerbil. Simultaneous release maybe?!
For the uninitiated: Don't let this deter you from owning this!
The pilot is available on Ebay at an extremely reasonable price. I received mine within days. It's a minor inconvenience for owning possibly the best TV show ever produced. It was a short run but Lynch was WAY over the heads of the average sit-com zombie.
The main reason I can overlook the omission of the pilot: I own the complete series box set on VHS. The most god-awful picture and sound quality you can imagine. Dubbed in Super Long Play to pack a bunch of episodes per tape, it was like watching something your grandma taped on one of those tapes that she records EVERY episode of Matlock on...over and over and over again...on the same tape...So just thank your stars it's on DVD and not on Grandma's tape anymore.

Summary: Twin Peaks Better Than Ever Before
Review: Many people have found Twin Peaks interesting over the years since the series ended. I think the new DVD is great and I can't wait for the next season to come out on DVD. The special features are great. With many interviews with the actors, commentary with people involved in the production. Those of you dissapointed about the pilot not being included in this set you can buy it at any ... Movie store, or on Amazon. I do hope that the pilot will some day come out on DVD. In conclusion this set is far better than any past sets so just buy it!

Summary: Bigger and better but not perfect
Review: Well TWIN PEAKS is finally on DVD, accompanied by all the great extra features, MUCH better picture quality, and great sound, perfect right?...Wrong. First off, the pilot rights are owned by another company so it is not included in this set. You feel like you are walking into a movie that has been playing for a half hour already. Second, the special features for each episode are unaccessible on my copy of the DVD but the special features included on the last disc are extensive and interesting. Overall, I am glad to own this on DVD but feel a twinge of regret. It just seems to me that eventually the studio gurus will stop their pissing contest and put out a complete "special edition" set with the pilot, first, and second season. For now I am happy to watch this and revel in the bizarre worlds of David Lynch.

Review: First, blame the suits for the lack of a pilot, it's inexcusable, it's stupid, it's even commercially numb -- but why should the release of the Peaks box be any different from any other inanity committed by same? Still and all, you can find the pilot at ebay, or even from some of the more advanced net dvd sites (I bought a Japanese version). Cheers.

Summary: Totally misleading- where is the... pilot episode?!
Review: First, let me say how excited I was to see this DVD available- I remember loving Twin Peaks but clearly could not remember the content of the series. I was excited to see "episode I" which I (wrongly) assumed would be the pilot and would refresh my memory. I thought my disc was defective when I kept seeing and hearing "previously on Twin Peaks...."
How can a disc which is advertized as "the complete first season" not include the pilot? How ridiculous! I am...buying the pilot... but... 1 star for deceptive marketing and advertizing.
