Summary: burning clarity! confusing controls.
Review: the film transfer is a-maze-ing! previously i had only seen the show via the vhs boxed set that has super crummy tapes which were recorded in EP mode. those tapes were 5 hours long and easily lost their charge thus degrading the picture quality each time you rewound and played back to see the nuances. the DVD has very sharp and clear picture and sound which gives way to finding even more nuances and the breath taking music sounds even better in 5.1 DTS.
my only gripe (and it could just be that i am some sort of idiot) is that the controls are a bit funky. i still haven't been able to access the script notes on my computer DVD player. i just figured out how the chapter navigation works. the overall visual ellegance of the design and the clunkiness of navigation seem out of sync. some of the supplemental features (like the documentary and black lodge speak) are poorly produced as well. these things aside i give it five stars because of the packaging, the transfer, the sound mix, and the visual aspects of it's design. let's rock.

Summary: No Pilot episode, are we being ripped off again?
Review: I first watched the Twin Peaks series on the SCI-FI Channell approx 3 years ago & was blown away by how good the series was. My main reason for buying a DVD was that I heard that Twin Peaks was to be available on DVD,... I live in the UK & was worried if this version had RCE(Region Coding Enhancemnet) on, this has NOT I am pleased to say & plays on multi region players with no problems.The first thing I was peeved with was where is the Pilot episode I naturally thought this would have been included, not so. ... The Second thing I was not to pleased about was the packaging of the Box set. There are 4 DVD's in essentially a Cardboard folder, not a normal robust DVD case, this will not take long to get dog eared if not respected properly. The final thing I could not see the point of was the fact that they have converted the format to 4:3 from 16:9 why not give the user the option of Widescreen? Widescreen is becoming the norm these days.... I hope the Second series gets released in a better state, that's if they can be bothered to release it, which would not suprise me.

Summary: Groundbreaking TV series
Review: This series has been descibed as a 'surrealist's soap opera', but in actuality it more like a soap opera's dream. There are better production values, the characters' have many dimensions to them and are as real as possible and this series is far sexier than any soap opera. Add to that the fact that those elements of soap opera are only a fraction of what the series accomplishes. It's a soap opera, it's a mystery, it's a small town comdedy, it's even a fantasy/sci-fi story. If that isn't enough, Twin Peaks stands as a precursor to a similar show that you may have hear of, 'The X-Files.' David Duchovny even appears in this series as well. Basically, it served as a show that would lead you to expect one thing and then hit you with something that many couldn't immediately explain. The show was co-created by David Lynch who is known for his surrealistic endeavors and this carries some of that for people who dig it. There's a big difference between this and Lynch's other material and that difference is that in his other movies things would happen and the viewer is forced to interpret what is happening without any explanation from the film (at least through verbal dialogue). Since this is a series that he had co-created for network television he is forced to eventually reveal, through verbal dialogue, the meaning of his surrealistic imagery. As such, this is the perfect place for a person to be introduced to the world of surrealism and its sometimes confusing imagery/symbolism, in which, every detail is important. It isn't exactly a perfect introduction to Lynch's work though, because he only writes and directs certain episodes so the rest of the episodes are basically written and directed by other people based on his and Mark Frost's blueprints. Even though this is true, the series was and still is a great example of the possibilities when you create a postmodern mix of different genres. I loved the fact that when I was done watching the series, it would have been far from over if the network hadn't cancelled it and this forces me to consider the possibilities had it continued.
As for the technical aspect of the VHS collector's edition, it's recorded in the EP mode so the sound doesn't come out as good on my old TV, but it sounds good on other new TV's. If you're worried about that then just buy the DVD collection of the first season. The only other bummer is the fact that they didn't include the feature-length pilot, but it's still worth the money. I wholeheartedly recommend this.

Summary: Flying High Without The Pilot
Review: Oh, boo-hoo-hoo...my Twin Peaks DVD set did not include the pilot episode. Wahhh! I am too stupid to read the insert card which present a detailed retelling of the events of the ill-famed but irresistably indulgent pilot episode. So I am here to complain to anyone who will listen and belittle a great production company that tried their darndest to secure the rights to the Pilot, but were unable to do so. Sniff, sniff...I am too stupid to know that a show's pilot episode is not intrinsically attached to the official first season, and thus I hearby accuse Artisan and everyone else who is selling this DVD of false advertising. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm about to sit down and watch one of the best series to ever see the light of day on network television: "Hee-Haw" Agent Dale Cooper has nothin' over them "Hee Haw" yokels! In all seriousness, this is the best this fabulous show has ever looked or sounded and I am pleased as pie to own this damn fine DVD set.

Summary: Guys, don't worry about the missing pilot, because...
Review: You can buy the pilot on DVD as an import from Taiwan. And yes, it will play on any DVD player, because it is on Region 0. I ordered it myself. The video and audio quality isn't as great as this set, but it is not bad, and definitely worth buying. ...And as most people would tell you, I would recommend waiting to buy the pilot before seeing the first season, ESPECIALLY if you've never seen the show before. There's just no point without the pilot.

Review: I have to admit it is kinda unfair not to include the pilot and call it the Complete First Seasons, but in all fairness : it is the Complete First Season. The Pilot wasn't part of the first season. The term Pilot is used for an episode which COULD spawn a new tv-series. In a lot of cases, this doesn't happen. [....]
The quality is reasonably good as well. (At least better than the European VHS-release).
So please stop whining about the pilot and giving it less than 5 stars. You should award stars for the things that were in their control. They couldn't release the Pilot, because it is not theirs to release.

Review: It is a great DVD set, though more extras would've been nice. These people need to quiet down about the lack of a pilot episode. A different company controls that- Paramount I think. As Jeffers would have it, they're angry at the sun.

Review: The rights to the pilot episode of Twin Peaks are owned by a different company. It is available as a 15$ import DVD via Amazon... Try searching! It's not that hard!
All in all, it's amazing to see the series remastered, especially if you've watched the videos over and over again. A fine set!!

Summary: One of the best shows ever.
Review: If you loved the show, buy the DVD set. IMHO, Twin Peaks is second only to the Simpsons as the most interesting TV show to air on a major network. Any show that has a sequence with a dancing, backward talking midget is OK in my book. My biggest complaint about the DVD set has been exhaustively registered by others, so I won't go into it. The extras are not all that great either. Still it's nice to have the first season and the DVD picture quality is what makes this worthwhile. Now I just have to wait for season 2...

Summary: The pilot is now available!
Review: For all of you who have bashed Artisan for releasing the first season of Twin Peaks without the pilot, bear in mind that they tried to get the rights for it, but Warner Bros./Paramount wouldn't let go of it. Most of you should know by now that a limited-release DVD of the pilot with the original television ending was recently made available in Taiwan by a company called Catalyst Logic. Some thought it was a bootleg, but that appears not to be the case. Up until now, we have had to go to eBay and a bunch of alternative, back-alley dealers to pick up the Taiwanese pilot. Now, Amazon is also making it available. So to all of those people loudly complaining that they can't find the pilot, here's a chance to get it while you can. It might not be around for long!!
