Review: I never consciously realized it until I pondered over whether to get this "I Love Lucy" set around the same time that the "Indiana Jones" set was just released; but, I have about 100 DVD titles in my collection and I was surprised to find that NONE of them are from Paramount. Many in my collection are from Criterion, Warner, Universal, Columbia, Image Entertainment, and there are some from other smaller companies, but not a single Paramount. Why is that, I wondered? I replace my VHS tapes with DVD's when they significantly add value to the film experience and are well-packaged; and since getting a DVD player only 6 months ago, I have already become very discretionary in my selections. I decided against the "I Love Lucy" set because of the bulky packaging and the expensive price tag for just a single-season set. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1, because I applaud their releasing it as a season-set instead of best-of collections. I said no to the "Indiana Jones" DVD collection because of the lack of commentary on such an essential classic. Both poor designs of such classic shows, it turns out, came from Paramount. As much as I would have loved to have liked these recent releases, I'm not going to reward laziness and greed. I'll continue to enjoy them on VHS and TV in the meantime.

Review: I ordered the Lucy 1st season for my wife as a birthday present. We were both quite happy with the set. The set came nicely boxed and the quality of the picture is much better than the tapes we have. Overall I think it is very nicely done. Knowing what I do now after having bought and viewed the set I would order it again.Two minor quibbles kept me from giving it 5 stars. First, since the set is boxed why does each individual DVD have to be sealed with 3 tape strips and then sealed in a plastic wrapper? It makes it a bit hard to get to the DVD's. And second, I feel the price is a bit steep. Not enough to keep me from buying it but still a bit high. I would reccomend this set to anyone who loves the program.

Review: I Love Lucy is finally coming out on DVD. This is the first time that we have the complete first season on DVD. This review will go over the features and shows one each disc. This is an amazing nine disc set with some mistakes, but none the less, will make you love Lucy all over again! I Love Lucy Season 1 Volume 1: What a way to start the show. This DVD kicks off the series with the first four shows ever filmed. Even though the first few's aire dates are mixed, this is the order in which they were filmed. These are the shows on this disc: Lucy tries to get into the act when Ricky's band auditions for TV in "The Lost I Love Lucy Pilot." This show was remade five shows later. This show never aired, but was shown to the CBS company. The set is not the actual apartment and quite flimsy. Fred and Ricky want to see a prize fight...but Lucy and Ethel have something else in mind in "The Girls Want To Go to a Night Club." Lucy tries to rekindle romance with Ricky in "Be A Pal." Lucy starves her and steams her way to size twelve in "The Diet. There are an array of bonus features on this disc. Including an episode from Lucy's radio show, "My Favorite Husband." Then there are humorous "flubs," Guest Cast Info, Special Footage, Series Original Opening, and a Behind The Scenes Audio Featurette. I Love Lucy Season 1 Volume 2: In this one, the very first I Love Lucy program to aire and a remake of the pilot are included along with an array of bonus features: A misunderstood conversation makes Lucy suspicious in "Lucy Thinks Ricky is Trying to Murderer Her." This was the very first I Love Lucy to aire, but fifth made. To win 1,000 dollars, Lucy pretends she was married to someone else in "The Quiz Show." Lucy clowns it up as Buffo the Clown in "The Audition." This one is a remake of the original pilot. Lucy and Ethel become interested in the supernatural in "The Seance" The bonus features on this disc include two of Lucy's "My Favorite Husband" radio episodes, "flubs," series original openings, special footage, guest cast info, and a Behind the Scenes Photo Gallery. I Love Lucy Season 1 Volume 3: Four More funny Lucy episodes in chornological order. Ricky throws his clothes all everywhere and Lucy proves "Men Are Messy." Lucy thinks Ricky has given her the ultimate gift in "The Fur Coat." Lucy disrupts a chorus line in "Lucy is Jealous of a Girl Singer." Lucy and Ethel are convinced their husbands are headed for the service in "Drafted!" I Love Lucy Season 1 Volume 4: Laugh yourself silly again in Volume 4! Lucy gets dancing lesson from Fred in "The Adagio." Lucy and Ricky perform a classic vaudeville routine in "The Benefit." To increase business for Ricky, Lucy poses as Maharincess of Franistan in "The Publicity Agent." I Love Lucy Season 1 Volume 9: Finally, we've reached the end! Convinced Ricky is a genius, "Lucy Gets Ricky on the Radio." Lucy teaches Ricky a lesson in "Lucy's Schedule." Lucy gives Ricky hair treatments in "Ricky Thinks he's Getting Bald." Finally, Lucy convinces Ricky to demand more pay in "Ricky Asks for a Raise. Bonus features include series original opening, special footage, three "My Favorite Husband" radio shows, guest cast info, "flubs," production note, and a Behind the Scenes Photo Gallery." All of these DVDs fit in one big box. The only problem is the size of the set, 9 DVDs but other than that, it is perfect. The shows are compeltely restored to their original brilliance, there are interesting special footage and hilarious flubs. There are funny radio shows, and interesting photo galleries and documents. You will definitely fall in love with Lucy all over again. Please bring on Season 2 Paramount!!!

Review: I bought the dvd's as soon as I found out they were being released. I (really do) LOVE LUCY!! Sure it is a little costly, but THIS IS A TRUE CLASSIC!!! Lucy and the rest of the cast were ARTISTS. The work of any artist who has passed on is worth alot of money!! How much does a Picasso go for??? I mean come on, if you don't want to pay the price don't buy it IT'S YOUR LOSS!! I think that this show one of the few shows that a family can sit down and watch together. I want to watch it with my kids, and their kids--so I THINK IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! If you are a true lucy fan, there is no question about it--QUALITY = COST ---- I LOVE LUCY is QUALITY, who cares what the box looks like!! I think it is fantastic and can't wait for season 2 to be released!!!

Summary: Single -Layered?
Review: Only 4 half-hour episodes on a disc? Well the discs must not be double-layered then.(not to be confused with double-sided) Most current movie releases on DVD use single-sided and double-layered discs. Each layer can record roughly 2 hours worth of materiel, making a double-layered disc capable of 4. It is a waste of resources and bad for the environment to still create single-layered DVDs now that we've got the technology to better utilize the space on a plastic disc. Then again, maybe the studio just got stuck with a load of obsolete single-layered discs from a couple years ago and are now trying to dump them. P.S. To christopherbkk from Bangkok Thailand, some Americans do "whine" at times, but often we are just not afraid to voice our opinions. If you are not accustomed to speaking up when there is a problem and/or to see others do, I suggest that you turn away from any American-based websites and stick to whatever close-minded Thai sites that have nothing good enough to offend you. Personaly I don't think I should be "thankful" that I am being offered a chance to "spend my hard-earned money" on some product, whatever it might be. And I should have every right to complain as a paying customer.

Stop your moaning people about how you bought the DVD's individually and then out came the less expensive box set. More fool you for buying them! Naturally a box set would be released! And so what if it is not as compact as what it could have been? You should be thankful that you have the thinner DVDs and not videos. You should be thankful you have the opportunity to have them at all. You Americans should be thankful that you didn't have to pay the postage and the duty charges that we have to overseas. You should be thankful that they are releasing this show (will Gilligan's Island ever come out?). I must go have a closer look at the covers. I hadn't noticed how terrible they supposedly are (and I thought I had quite good taste in such things). Why is the world full of so many wingers? Now, for those of you considering this purchase let me tell you a few things. The quality of the picture is magnificent. The sound of this vintage material is as good as they can get it, I am sure. And there are so many extras. A short bio of sorts of all guest performers (including Gale Gordon, Mary Wickes and so many others), interesting commentaries, extracts from radio shows, 'flubs' (on-air mistakes, etc), the names of every song performed plus more. I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners and others of that era are unbeatable. I can't afford them all, especially if they continue to be this pricey. But I will accept it , get what I can and enjoy what I have got. It is true that if enough people refuse to buy them then they may release the next lot differently. But then again, they may not release more at all!

Summary: Too Many Discs!
Review: I can't believe I'm giving this a "2" but I am also upset with the packaging. What a waste of space to put only 4 half hour shows on each disc. I was purchasing the "I Love Lucy" DVDs from Columbia House. Four shows for $25, including shipping. Then I saw Amazon was offering them for half of that price. Talk about being ripped off! So I cancelled the Columbia House shipments. Then, out of the blue, I received another DVD from Columbia and there were 6 episodes on it! So it IS possible to have 6 episodes, plus all of the extras, on one DVD. For those who posted only 4 would fit, they're wrong. There was absolutely no difference in quality AND there were the same number of extras. I don't understand what is wrong with Paramount. They should be offering entire seasons as well as separate DVDs. That way, we have a choice plus we don't feel so ripped off. I hope, too, that they "speed it up!" and issue the DVDs much faster than previously. It's not like Paramount has to build up the name recognition - us fans ARE out here, waiting to buy the series. Who wants to wait SIX YEARS to own the entire series? It's ridiculous.

Review: Awesome set! Very enjoyable to have this in a format that will last. The issue about storage space is a nonissue. Who really cares how much space the box set takes up? Work a little harder and maybe they could afford a bigger house to store this classic box set. Looking forward to the second season's release.

Summary: Good Price For Best Sitcom Ever
Review: I've read a lot of bad commentaries on this product, mainly because of price. Well, here's the way I look at it. Essentially, situation comedy is dead. "Friends", "Everybody Loves Raymond", "King of Queens" - forget it. They can't hold a candle to perpetually successful "I Love Lucy". I love to laugh and about the only series that does it for me is "I Love Lucy". If I have to pay $120 for ownership of television's greatest series, then so be it. I want something that my kids can watch. Something that is honest, clean fun that doesn't feature overrated no-talents, two-bit New York comedians catapulted to stardom because they have the right connections or something that is smut-driven like most of television. I fear the day will come when shows like "I Love Lucy" will be pushed off the air to make way for the current prime-time fanfare. I want to be prepared for the day when this happens. To me, it is a $$$ investment well spent.

Review: Sex and the City... Friends... MASH... The Jeffersons... Cheers... All in the Family... Alias... every one of these series and dozens more are recorded onto 3-6 discs per season and boxed in either a fold out or clamshell case. To expand a single season of I LOVE LUCY into nine individual discs (only 4 episodes per disc) is wasteful and extravagant. I think I'll wait until Paramount (hopefully) gets its act together and releases only 3-5 discs per season.
