Summary: Very nice boxed set
Review: I thought the design of the boxed set was pretty cool. The quality is not bad at all. I watched the dvds on an HDTV with a progressive scan DVD player and the quality looks just fine to me. Not the best i've ever seen but it is by no means bad. I havn't seen any of the "required" commercials that the other reviews have said. In fact there are no commercials at all on the DVDs that I have seen. If you like law and order: SVU, you'll like this boxed set.

Summary: Terrific show in the year when Munch actually had lines
Review: I watch SVU for Richard Belzer's subtle, tragic-comic performance as John Munch. Unfortunately, in later years, the producers of SVU have written Munch off as a secondary character, when he should always be front and center. While other actors swagger and chew scenery, Belzer conveys Munch's compassion exquisitely and with subtlety. It's a performance that has been sadly underappreciated for many years through many series, except by the fans.

Ice-T's Fin is definitely is best ever partner, but Fin doesn't appear until the second season. Until then, we must deal with two weaker "partners" (no reflection on the actors, it's just clear the writers didn't know what to do with them), although at least we have the one year when Munch was in the spotlight as a character.

I don't find the quality of the release technically any worse than the usual grade of DVD season releases for other shows, though SVU deserves better.

Summary: I loved SVU!
Review: I'm surprised on the reviews here. I'm glad I didn't base my judgement on buying this DVD set on the reviews. I loved this boxed set of Law and Order SVU. I'm a huge Law and Order fan all the way around. I thought the quality of it was fine. I've seen worse. I'm waiting for the Second Season to come out. One I sat down to watch these episodes it was hard to get back up and do anything else. I did finish this set in two days.

Summary: Inexplicably poor picture detracts from enjoying this set
Review: It's not VCD quality as someone else suggested. Instead, it looks more like an out-of-focus transfer from film. It's hard to understand how a mastering job such as this could be approved for release. I will view the entire DVD set regardless, but the poor picture most definitely detracts from the experience.

Summary: Warning!!!
Review: Just want to give you a warning about a few Bug-a-Boos I have with this DVD Collection. First off, I'm a Law and Order fan who loves watching the show, and I'm glad to now have the Collection on DVD, but I'm not sure I would buy it again.

What I HATE about this DVD is that every time you pop it in, you have to sit through the same commercials. You Can't Skip Them!

Here's a preview of the ads you aren't allowed to Skip.

1. Watch Law & Order on USA
2. Watch The MiniSeries Traffic on USA
3. Watch Taken by Steven Spielberg
4. Buy the Law & Order Video Game.

Also look at the ad insert to tell you AGAIN. Watch Law & Order on USA.

(...)6 unavoidable ads before seeing even 1 Episode!

The purpose of purchasing this OVERPRICED DVD is to avoid the commercials, and I'm more than annoyed that after buying the DVD, I have to sit through the same 4 ads time and time again. Pressing the "menu" button or the "title menu" button won't do. (neither will that snazzy "next" button.)

Look, I'm a fan...
I already watch the show on USA,
I also watch the original on TNT,
I can't stand Criminal Intent, but
I also have the video game,
I see the new episodes on NBC, and
I used to watch it on A&E,

So it looks to me that Dick Wolf isn't going to squeeze any more viewing time out of me by tormenting me with these annoying commercials. WHY! WHY! WHY! Torment me?!?!?

Ok, glad to get that off my chest.

Quick review on the first season. The show, to me, has gotten
better with the addition of Ice-T and the loss of a few characters. It's intersting to see how the show got to where it is, in the order things occured. Future seasons will be much anticipated, but please let me watch them in commercial free peace.

IMPORTANT!!!
(...)I don't like writing negative reviews, but I was disappointed with this set. No extras by the way. To leave on a happier note. The Three's Company DVD of Season 2 is a great deal and a great price here at amazon. The extras are well worth it. The pilot without the real Janet and Crissy is something special. I wish Law & Order could have produced a set to leave the customer more satisfied. Just to be clear. Amazon has a fair price, but as a fan, I don't feel it's worth the money you'll be charged for this DVD.

Summary: Truthful and Gripping
Review: Law and Order SVU is one of the best shows there is on TV today. They tell you about how the world is, the real world that people don't like to think about. Law and Order brings sex crimes to light. It makes people think about how others deal with sex crimes and what people can do to help prevent them from happening. I think that SVU helps people, not only does it provide entertainment but it is like a public service announcment for people dealing with the realities of the world. I definitely give it 5 stars and I can't wait for the next season.

Summary: Not Even Close to the Original
Review: Obviously I'm in the minority, but I didn't like this show at all. Having watched and enjoyed the original L&O, I picked up the DVD for SVU without ever having seen an episode. Right from the beginning I didn't care for the sanctimonious attitude of the lead characters. Whenever they interrogate a suspect or a witness, they're incredibly judgmental in a "holier than thou" sort of way. It doesn't seem to matter if the subjects are guilty or even accused of any criminal activity; if the detectives don't approve of their lifestyle, they are ostracized.

The character Olivia Benson is especially annoying in that she takes every crime personally. There is nothing wrong with portraying cops who care, but she is ridiculous. In the very first episode, she acts as cop, attorney, jury and judge when she doesn't approve of the victim's past. Yes, she makes judgments about the victim! Granted, he was a lousy guy, but she makes herself the entire judicial system because she's sympathetic to the perpetrator.

Richard Belzer's character John Munch, from Homicide: Life on the Street, joins the SVU, but he is terribly underutilized. It's too bad this show isn't even close to the quality of Belzer's old show.

Summary: Nice!!!
Review: Okay, okay, im biased rating this five stars because I've been a loyal watcher of it for awhile now; but I think anybody can appreciate the high quality acting, and DVD extras that this treat comes with. You get all 22 episodes in an awesome case, complete with 2 extras that provides you Actor's Commentary and behind-the-scenes action. No one can dispute the electricity that Meloni and Hargitay have working together. At some times thrilling, other times wittythe stories always touch a chord with me. I think, if you like this sort of thing, you will definetly consider it a worthy investment.

Summary: Law and Order-the Comedy Episodes
Review: SVU is a pretty sweet show. Why? Two words: comdeic genius. Sex crimes are funny. Dick Wolf knows this. And thus, SVU was born. It should have been called Law and Order: Pure Comedy Gold. If you like your humor black as night with some corniness sprinkled in, this show is probably for you. The first season rules because it plays up the comedy more than the later ones thus far, with both amusing plots and dialogue. What a great series. However, I cannot give the DVD five stars as it really skimps on the extras(You know, the ones that make a DVD really worth buying?). Then again, at less than fifty bucks for a season of an hourlong show, it's not too shabby. Seventeen and a half hours worth of entertainment is a decent value. So in conclusion, if you are one warped little monkey, this show is probably for you. Or if you think that because they're sex crimes they're "hard hitting and shocking"...whatever. Maybe I'm missing the point.
