Rating: Summary: I never saw Family Guy while it aired. Review: And I guess I'm now one of many who would sacrifice a limb (my choice!) to have it back on the air. Fox, apparently, is listening--to the monstrous sales of the Family Guy DVDs, that is. A million copies of season one have sold already (at enough per pop to make a pretty penny for Fox), and season two is well on its way to the same result, making it perhaps the fastest and biggest selling TV-to-DVD sales phenomenon.Family Guy is so good, that, after watching a bunch of episodes, it is difficult to go back to the Simpsons. Yes, you heard right. The Simpsons feels slow, a bit dull, and far less imaginative. (Don't get me wrong. The Simpsons are great. But, Family Guy is so state-of-the-art that everything else starts to pale in comparison.) Season two is every bit as good as season one, and includes my favorite episode, "When You Wish Upon A Weinstein," which was kept off the air by Fox because it tread upon sacred ground. This episode is unabashedly anti-organized religion, but it is hardly anti-semetic. Indeed, it is the opposite of that, showing off just how crude and stupid Peter Griffin really is. He's the Archie Bunker of the new millenium and I love it.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Show Ever Review: Absolutely nothing on TV in the past or present can compare to this don't hold back politically incorrect masterpiece. Its quick wit and sheer randomness makes every single episode an absolute delight. This is the show that took the Simpsons the the next level. With wonderful characters, plots, and dialogue, it is a pure shame Family Guy was taken off the air. I entreat you, buy this DVD as a relic of this fantastic smorgasbord of un-PC humor. (haha, smorgasbord) 5+++ stars
Rating: Summary: The Funniest Cartoon Ever Made Review: This show has got to be the funniest ever produced. Each show is so witty and hilarious that it is sure to appeal to anyone's sense of humor. Constantly, there are references to everything from pop culture to racial injustice that will leave you in stitches. This show is timeless and endlessly entertaining - sort of like how The Simpsons used to be. Buy this DVD and enjoy hours of countless laughs as well as a number of moments leaving you in deep and profound thought.
Rating: Summary: Why is this the end? Review: The third season of Family Guy is unfortunately the last, but knowing it was bound to get cancelled, Macfarlane just made it absurd. He really pushes the envelope and makes some completely hysterical episodes. Ironically, the episode that got banned from Fox isn't nearly as controversial as some of the ones that did make it on. I cannot stress how funny the show was. The cutaways make it what it is. Peter soiling himself at the dinner table was one of the most random and crazy moments of the show, but still absolutely priceless. The fan request episodes are totally out there, but they still are priceless. And Death going on a date...PRICELESS! Do yourself a favor...get the DVD set and Season 1/2 and watch this on Cartoon Network or whatever you gotta do to see it!
Rating: Summary: I wish this show was still alive Review: So they can keep putting out funny stuff like this! I men it went from a strong start to a strong finish. One of my favorite episodes is the thin white line, where brian gets addicted to cockane. And that was the first episode. When you wish Upon a wienstien, I didn't find it very offensive episode(But very funny), but hey, I'm not a jew, so how am I suppose to know how they feel. I wonder why hasn't anyone copied family guys comedy formula. Whenever they say remember that time, and remember something, it's just funny. Man, both seasons were worth every cent. If you love sitcoms, or cartoons, this will easily suit you needs. I thought this show was funnier than the Simpsons, and Futurama, because it always came with fresh matierial, episode after episode, until their unfortanate end. Peace
Rating: Summary: Delightfully evil. Review: It's just.. wow. Sometimes I'm amazed this show was aired, but I#m even more saddened that it was canceled. This show has an edge. It's politically incorrect humor at its best. With almost every episode, I would think "Oh my Goddess, he did NOT just say that!", and I would rewind it, and I would laugh.. This show picks on everyone... However, it does it with such an innocent smile and genuinely funny joke that it forces you to actually step back and laugh at yourself. The show also has a way of saying things that will make your jaw drop, and then the conversation continues and what they said was totally innocent, relying on your own sick and dirty mind for the humor. My only major complaint about this, which also holds true of the first boxed set, is the quality of the mpeg encoding. One would think that since the image is animated, with thick black lines and almost-no to no shading, they could have used a better encoding rate and the file size would still be small. As it is, if there is too much movement on the screen, and sometimes I don't know what triggers it, the image will "stutter". If you are easily offended, just stay away from this show. If you can laugh at yourself (no matter what group you're in, they'll find a way to make fun of you), you'll like this show. Stewie and Brian are my heros.
Rating: Summary: Seth Mcfarlane should do a Pixar movie! Review: Seth who provides most of the voices for the show should be utilized more for his vocals talents. Pixar, who's great at using vocal talents should give him a look. By the way, these DVD are brilliant. Fox really screwed up.
Rating: Summary: It's good, but not great Review: Family Guy is a great series, which utilizes lots of visual comedy to become one of the great comedy series of the last 10 years. Many of the jokes are Hollywood related, talking about fairly obscure people like Joyce DeWitt (Three's Company). I don't get many of them, but I'm no film expert. Volume 2, while good, is just not *as* good as Volume 1. The funniest episodes are in the first Volume. There is a lot of Broadway musical stuff in Volume 2, which has always been one of the things that bugs me about the show. When characters break out into song, I change the channel. If you like that sort of thing, go for it. If not, be warned that it's there, and it seems to be more prevalent in this set.
Rating: Summary: Cartoons aren't always for kids Review: Without going into an episode by episode review, let me just state that this series was a boon for Fox and shame on them for cancelling. Despite the Simpsons-esque appearance of the incredibly stupid father and the stay-at-home mother, the series is something entirely new and different. The one-year-old baby is fixed on matricide and world domination. The 13-year-old son is a struggling 8th grader trying to get over his extreme awkwardness. The 16-year-old girl is a testament to the outcast in high school life, trying to fit in, but wanting to be herself at the same time. The family dog is anything but, rather the most mature of the show with his own stock portfolio, credit cards, and a penchant for martinis. This set, Season 3, contains the un-aired episode, "When you Wish Upon a Weinstein." Why they didn't air it becomes apparent during the musical number (trust me), but at the same time if you play the commentary with it, you find that those who would be most opposed actually condoned its airing. The execs at Fox, however, saw things differently. Trust me, this is one DVD set you're going to want to own, just don't show it to your kids yet. Definitely for mature audiences, and definitely a must-watch for fans of cartoons, humor, adult comedy, and the like.
