Summary: The Greatest Show Ever On Television
Review: The Sopranos, in my opinion, is the greatest television program ever produced. The second season is even more masterful than the first. The show, above all else, is about its characters. The characters are explored so creatively and intimately and the stories are always intelligent, complex, and profoundly human. All the actors give the closest to perfection that performance can get. This show is unlike anything you have ever seen. I am not tied to NY/NJ and have little knowledge of organized crime so I have no real bias. I can't think of anything in the history of television that can compare to this HBO production. It is so good after finishing watching the second season for 13 hours straight I just wanted to make love to the television in the firmament because it was that good.

Review: Of course, it's great, great, great. Nice to watch it in its original crisp images as opposed to on the 88 cent videotapes my dad originally dubbed it on for me. As for the extras, eh. They're alright. There's certainly more than for season 1. The commentaries can be occasionally boring, or at least completely unaware of the stuff that fans would want to hear about. Really, if Chase isn't talking, it's not going to be as enlightening as it could be. Even so, if you're a fan of film or literature, you have to own this. You owe it to yourself and your future progeny. Seriously.

Summary: ANOTHER MOB HIT!!!
Review: If you are looking at this review, you probably already have the first season. All I can tell you is that the second season is as good, if not better, than the first. There are some major plot developments. Livia and Tony's uncle hatch a plan that can have murderous consequences for Tony. Carmela is doing all in her power, and I mean all, to help Meadow get into a good college. In her own sweet way, Carmela can be just as scary as Tony. Janice (Aida Tuturro), Tony's sister, comes back home, wreaks havoc, marries the former mob boss's jailbird brother, and then leaves town with a bang. One of Tony's best friends becomes a snitch for the Feds. No wonder Tony continues to have anxiety attacks and still needs to see his psychiatrist, Dr. Melfi. The writing continues to be intelligent, and the story lines are as well thought out and engrossing as ever. I have watched the entire second season and am eagerly awaiting the third season. I absolutely love this series! The four disc DVD set is well packaged, and the video and audio are crystal clear. The nice thing about the DVDs is that before an episode begins, if one likes. one may read a plot summary of the episode. Moreover, in addition to the thirteen episodes, there are some bonus features.

Summary: Simply Put, I'm Hooked!
Review: I watched the 1st season from the public library's collection. I liked it so well that I bought the second season on DVD. Now I am so hooked on these characters and the intelligent writing that I don't know how I'm going to wait for the 3rd. I really don't want to subscribe to HBO just to see it but it is tempting. One would think you couldn't do anything new with this mobster scenario but boy, does brilliant writing make the difference. Each episode is very well thought out. Once again, the females are not slighted in the storytelling which is usually the case in these mafia storylines. In fact, Tony's sister is a major new character in this season. At first she comes off as a New Age flake but gradually you discover that the acorn didn't fall far from the tree. Her whole romance with fellow gangster Richie becomes one of the prime plotlines of the 2nd season because Richie makes Tony nuts, even causing him anxiety attacks! I can't recommend the series highly enough. If you can resist compulsively watching this episode after episode, you are stronger than I!

Review: The Sopranos is arguably the best dramatic series in television history. The writing, directing, acting, and character development in this show are brilliant, and stand quite apart from anything else on television. Despite quibbling among reviewers as to whether the second season is as good as the first, both stand head and shoulders above anything else on television, and are also superior to most cinematic films. It is curious that The West Wing seems to win more television awards than the Sopranos. I have seen both shows. The West Wing is an above average show, but is nothing exceptional. It is not even in the same league with The Sopranos. I suspect its "wins" are more the result of internal television politics than actual merit.

Review: If you loved the first season of the Sopranos, here's your opportunity to purchase another great selection of must have shows to expand your collection with. ................ Things really heat up in this incredible second season for Tony and his associates. As official boss of his crew, this season takes him and his most trusted soldiers to Italy. Paulie, played by a wonderfully believable Tony Sirico, and Christopher (Michael Imperioli) accompany and protect Tony while he meets and fantasizes about the lady "boss" he's come to see. ................ The biggest turn of events is the turncoat turn. I'm talking about Sal "Pussy" Bompensiero. He decides Tony isn't treating him well enough and adopts a "What have you done for me lately" attitude. He wears a wire and begins cooperating with the "feds" to get off easier on heroin trafficking charges. He even begins to delude himself into thinking that HE has a future in law enforcement. Feds tell him "Fuggedaboudit." The culmination of the season, and this part of the storyline, is spactacular. ................ Other highlights include a great episode where Christopher (Michael Imperioli) tries to get a script he wrote, made into a movie by his cousins girlfriend, whom he beds behind his cousins, and Adriana's back. John Favreau plays himself, as well as Janeane Garofolo and Sandra Bernhardt. ................. This second season really delves further into the family. We meet the brother of the late boss Jackie Aprile, Richie. Janice Soprano, Tony's opportunistic little(?) sister (Aida Turturro) almost marries him. Then, we meet the son, Jackie Jr. played by the very handsome Jason Cerbone. The Jackie Jr. character, seen only briefly in season two, appears throughout the much anticipated third season, as love interest of Tony's daughter Meadow (Jamie Siegler). The two actually were an item off screen as well. .............. Each Sopranos episode is like a minature movie. Any one episode is as good or better than most similarly themed major motion pictures. If you are a long time Sopranos fan and you already own season one, or you're just meeting the family for the first time, buy the second season too. In fact, don't miss any of the episodes!! Both seasons are a MUST for any avid viewer of this incredible and fascinating series.
