Rating: Summary: Very funny! Review: I have the VHS series of Fawlty Towers and it's British farce comedy at it's best. I can't wait to purchase the DVD series. John Cleese is Basil Fawlty who is the owner and manager of the hotel Fawlty Towers. The acting is fast paced and the timing is perfect.

Rating: Summary: John Cleese is brilliant! Review: This series revolves around John Cleese and his ability to perform both physical comedy and screaming hysterics. On both levels it works extremely well. Basil Fawlty is just not a nice person. He hits the porter. He berates the maid. The belittles the guests. And, he back stabs his wife. A role model for all politically correct people. And, no one can pull it off like John Cleese. Bea Arthur tried an Americanized version, as did the great John Larroquette. Neither worked because Americanized may as well mean watered-down. No one is willing to be as nasty as is needed to pull off what John Cleese did so effortlessly.
Rating: Summary: FAWLTY TOWERS ON DVD Review: I have watched every Faulty Towers episode countless times and know many of the infamous catchphrases off by heart. It astounds me that the this series isn't yet available on DVD. This is one of the greatest comedies ever made and it deserves to be remastered in a way that enhances the sound and vision. The BBC is not fully utilising or capitalising on their vast catalogue. I am sick of the second rate sound and vision of tape and have been waiting "as long as the emperor hadrian" for this series to be released on DVD.
Rating: Summary: One can watch F. T. over & over again without tiring of it. Review: This is perhaps my favorite show of all time. Although only twelve episodes were made (perhaps a good thing--I'd rather have 12 outstanding episodes than have it stretched out to 24 so-so episodes), it is plumb hilarious. Since a mere online review cannot explain how funny the show is, suffice it to say that I HIGHLY recommend the investment in the complete series. Here's a sampling of what goes in at F. T.: Mrs. Richards: Now, I've booked a very quiet room with a bath and a sea view... Manuel: Que? Mrs. Richards: K? Manuel: Si. Mrs. Richards: C? K. C.? What are you trying to say? Manuel: No, Que what. Mrs. Richards: "K what"? Manuel: Si--que what. Mrs. Richards: C. K. What? Who's C. K. What? [M gives a funny look] Mrs. Richards: Is he the manager? Manuel: Oh, manager! Mrs. Richards: He is? Manuel: Mr. Fawlty. Mrs. Richards: What? Manuel: Fawlty. Mrs. Richards, walking away to POLLY: What areyou talking about, you silly little man? [To POLLY]What is going on here? I ask for my room and he says the manager is a Mr. What, aged 40. Manuel: No, FAWLTY! Mrs. Richards: Faulty? What's wrong with him? Mrs. Richards continues to think Basil's name is "Mr. What," which results in confusion: Mrs. R: Are you the manager? Basil: No, I'm the owner. Mrs. R: I want to see the manager. Basil: I'm the manager too. Mrs. R: What? Basil, louder: I'm the manager! Manuel: Manager, he manager. [Basil slaps Manuel in the chest] Mrs. R: Oh. You're What. Basil, very loudly: I'M THE MANAGER! Mrs. R: I know, you've just told me. What's the matter with you? -from "Communications Problems" (from memory, so not quite verbatim).
Rating: Summary: Great seris of British comedy Review: I first bought this set of the complete Fawlty Towers episodes collection about six years ago. I have watched these tapes many times and never fail to find them totally hilarious! My younger cousins who come over to visit often ask for these to watch on the television rather than cartoons! Buy them - you will not regret it. All the characters, including the bit-over-the top John Cleese, succeed in keeping you laughing through most of each episode. Slapstick, yes, but such enjoyable slapstick!
Rating: Summary: A COMIC MASTERPIECE! Review: This is now rightly regarded as a comic masterpiece and after watching just one of these episodes you will understand why. Considering the fact that some of the episodes were made over 25 years ago, this still stands very well with its fast, furious, razor sharp witty dialogue and nothing but excellent comic playing. Its an absolute gem! John Cleese and his then wife Connie Booth wrote all 12 episodes in the two series' that were madein 1975 and 1979. The quality never falters through any of these episodes. John Cleese and Andrew Sachs provide most of the laughs with Cleese playing the permantley stressed and raving mad, Basil Fawlty, the incompentent owner of the appropiatley named Fawlty Towers and Sachs as the Spanish cook who has many hilarious moments with his delightfully fractured English, prompting Basil to continually justify to his baffled guests "Oh don't worry, he's from Barcelona". Classic stuff! Prunella Scales as Sybil Fawlty and Connie Booth as the poor put upon maid have their fair share of laughs too. Its impossible to select a favourite episode so i'll let you judge for yourselves. A CLASSIC! HILARIOUS! An important contribution to British comedy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!
Rating: Summary: If you can't laugh at this... Review: then you may be dead. Or, maybe you've stayed at a bed and breakfast like The Fawlty Towers. John Cleese (Monty Python) plays Basil Fawlty, who along with his wife runs The Fawlty Towers. Basically, the entire series is an excuse to let Cleese do his patented slow-boil, get caught in compromising positions, and be mean to bellhop Manuel. This is mean-spirited British humor at it's best. Cleese has rarely been better. And the supporting cast, lead by Connie Booth, is great. Stop in and see why this is one of the great comedies of all time.
Rating: Summary: Not Comparable To Monty Python - This Is Another Kind Of Fun Review: All 12 episodes of the British comedy series »Fawlty Towers«! I fell for it'n' bought it, as a huge fan of Monty Python's Flying Circus. But »Fawlty Towers« is not the same kind of humour. It is more slapstick (without BEING slapstick), yet more complex since there's a continuous rise towards total chaos climax at the end of each episode! This is great! Great, and great FUN! Do buy the whole set - you will not cheat yourself!
Rating: Summary: Complete Fawlty Towers! Review: It suprises many people to know that there were only two series of Fawlty Towers and that the first was made in 1974 and the second in 1979. This giftset captures all 12 magical episodes that explore the hilarious character of Basil Fawlty, owner of a hotel on the South coast of England. Basil is desperatly trying to be middle-class which often leads to him offending the "riff-raff" that stop at the hotel. You see Basil wants his hotel to have only the finest guests, it's just that when this class of guest stays, which is rare, he always manages to offend them as well. Aided by his stone-faced wife, a confused Spanish waiter and a drunken-Chef, this makes for the most famous and celebrated hotel in British television history. Featuring classic episodes that get better with viewing, such as The German's and Gourmet Night. The complete giftset runs in at over 450 minutes, if it's like the European version then it should contain a thirty minute exclusive interview with John Cleese on each tape!
