Summary: The good, the better, the best.........
Review: No need to say that this movie is the best western movie ever made. The story, acting, scenes are wonderful. But being an old film the sound and visual quality is on the average. But this movie is a cult and a "must have" item. After watching the movie, you will discover that the good is really not the good, the bad is not bad and the ugly is really not the ugly.. WATCH AND ENJOY...

Review: The haunting music, the great one liners, the three way showdown at the end ...... this film has everything but the smell of the old west.

Clint Eastwood will be remembered for a variety of roles but his performance as 'the blonde' or 'blondie' stands out. Certainly Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach never matched 'Angel Eyes' and 'Tuco' respectively.

My favorite part of this movie occurs after the Union Prison scene, when Eastwood and Wallach re-unite to take out 'Angel Eyes' gang and resume their quest for the Confederate gold.

Throughout the movie Tuco and the blonde alternate from trying to kill eachother to saving eachother's lives, according to what circumstances dictate.

In the end their worldly priorities triumph over Angel Eyes and the civil war that is being fought all around them. A bizarre buddy movie if there ever was one.

Summary: Masterpiece western or simple story?
Review: A spectacular fiction. One of the best westerns ever. Clever and full of action with a keen spark of intelligence and insight into the darkness of some mens' souls. A simple tale told with a certain flair. The last of Sergio Leone's distinctive "spaghetti westerns". Over two and a half hours of Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef strutting their stuff. The plot is as basic as they get. A paper thin veil wrapped around a masterpiece. Three men in the civil war era southwest compete for a buried treasure. Everything is sunbaked and bombed out desolation. Like something out of an apocalypse movie.

Three ruthless killers. Each an expert marksman. A battle of wits and wills. Eastwood is good. A man of scant conscience but at least not as ruthless as the other two. He is blondie, el rubio, the blond angel. Lee Van Cleef is bad. A cold blooded murderer for hire. A tall handsome deadly man known as Angeleyes. A soulless predator. Eli Wallach is ugly. Crude, stupid and slovenly. You can almost smell him. But he's also crafty and perfect with a gun. He has personality underneath all that avarice. Wallach and Eastwood are together for most of the film. Eastwood's man with no name is icy calm with a quiet subtle sense of humor. Wallach's Tuco is loud and scheming. They hate each other but are joined at the hip.

The score is legendary. Of special note is the music when Tuco is running through the graveyard. The camera shots are occasionally creative. Not your normal point and shoot of most westerns. The three leads are perfect in their roles. Eastwood, as usual, is more of a presence than an actor. Even then, he was starting to make a name for himself. This is one of the few movies I go back to over and over again and never grow tired.

Summary: Could've used an editor
Review: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (Sergio Leone, 1967)

There are a number of great things about this movie. The first ten minutes. The last ten minutes. The theme music, which has come to be synonymous with the American west. Lee van Cleef, who was great in every role he ever played.

And then there was the middle hundred sixty minutes.

There's an odd tendency among filmmakers to take a razor-thin plot and stretch it far too long. Such is the case here, with the plot being a race between the Man with No Name (Clint Eastwood), a hired gun named Angel Eyes (van Cleef), and the Man with No Name's on-again off-again sidekick Tuco (Eli Wallach) to find a cache of stolen gold during the Civil War. This plot meanders for two and three-quarters hours before getting on track, and that's about anhour and three-quarters too long. The subplots are never developed, nor are the characters. Tuco switches allegiances every ten minutes. After a while, it gets just plain boring.

Definitely could have used a good editor. Eastwood's westerns got better with age (his, not theirs); Unforgiven and Pale Rider are better, tighter films. **

Summary: Perhaps the best "western" ever
Review: This tale of the old west is unique in a sense that there are no reedemable characters among the main cast. We have a two bit bandit (Tuco), a cold blooded assasin (Angel Eyes) and a double crossing gunslinger (Blondie, the good that is not that good). The plot revolves around the search for a hidden loot of gold, stolen from the confederate army.

What stands out the most in this movie, is the performance given by Eli Wallach as Tuco. The greedy look in his beady eyes, his unwashed quality, makes for an absolutely believable character we can't help but like, no matter how corrupted and honorless he is.

Great action scenes, the very best western duel (mexican standoff style), a very realistic look of the desolation and ruggedness of the scenery, and an outstanding musical score by Ennio Morricone complete this perfect film.

Summary: blondie and tuco rule the west forever
Review: When I first saw this film, I was young and did not like it, but many years later, I gave it another try and realized what an in- credible masterpiece it is, I still think FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE is the best of the three, this film is far the best on an enjoyable level. The dialogue is classic, especially coming from Eli Wallach's Tuco. BEST- "If you're going to shoot, shoot, don't talk"! The cinematography by Tonino delli Colli is superb. I have the letterboxed version from Laserdisc but am going to buy the dvd for the trailer and the 14 minutes of deleted scenes. If you are a Sergio Leone fan and Clint fan this film, along with the other 2 are a must see.

Summary: THE GREATEST WESTERN OF ALL TIME
Review: THE GOOD,THE BAD AND THE UGLY IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE GREATEST WESTERN OF ALL TIME.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Mostly good! No bad or ugly here!
Review: What an unbelievable classic western epic! Second only to Once Upon a Time in the West (I know, debatable).

I bought the VHS version 10 years ago and now I have the DVD widescreen treatment. So, was it worth buying again? Darn straight! I thought the picture was slightly better than the score given here. Far away shots looked unusually faded, others too grainy. But the closeups were very sharp. For an old movie made in the 60s the picture is quite good.

On the other hand, the sound was disappointing. I guess for mono it's fairly robust. Just don't expect the quality of today's releases and you'll be okay.

One of my favorite features of the DVD is the missing scenes. They are in italian (although subtitles are included in several languages including english). It's amazing to see missing scenes from a movie I've watched for 20+ years. I'd have left them all in!

The trailer is interesting in that it has a goof (Wallach and Van Cleefe are switched).

I can't wait to watch this again...and again... Now...if they would only release Once Upon a Time in the West on DVD!!

Summary: Rated R for intese action sequences, and vulgur languige.
Review: This movie is so good, you feel like you are actully seeing fact. The plot itself is fast, violent, and funny! All the roles are perfectly played by Eastwood, Wallach, and Van Cleef. The plot is a classic. An outlaw (Wallach), and a loner (Eastwood, who has a hobby of shooting hanging ropes) stumble on a secret. The secret is told to them by a dying civil war soilder. It is that in a graveyard, there is gold buried. So they set out to look for it, because both of them know hafe of the secret. Eastwood knows the name on the grve, and Wallach knows the graveyard. While looking for it, a ruthless bounty hunter gets into the act. The excitement is just starting. While disguised as confederites, they are captured by yankees who look like confederites. This scene features a hillarious line. When the soilders are coming, Wallach yells "God is with us because he hates the yanks!". After relizing that they are yankees, Eastwood says "But god is not on our side because he hates idiots." After the bounty hunter says that they are outlaws, they torture Wallach. Eastwood then joins Van Cleef. Then later he and Wallach and Eastwood reunite. I will not tell you the rest, you have to see the movie!

Memorible lines:

Wallach: "God is on our side because he hates the yank!" Eastwood: "But god is not on our side because he hates stupid idiots"

Wallach (Trying to read a letter): "See you soon id...., id...., id...." Eastwood (Taking the letter from him): "Idiots. It's for you."

Wallach: I like fat men like you. When you fall down you make a lot more noise."

Eastwood: "There are two types of people in this world. Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig."

You have to see the movie!
