Rating: Summary: Works great; no problems Review: Just to offset some of the criticism here... I have owned a DVR4000 for a month now and have had no trouble at all. It's very convenient having both DVD and VCR in one box. And it was trivial to install -- I just unplugged my old VCR and connected the DVR4000 in exactly the same way. I didn't even change the cables.
Rating: Summary: Good but takes some sound adjustment Review: Overall I like the System, but because I noticed that the Sound is lower when I switch to VCR or DVD Movies from the TV Sound, I am wondering why the sound settings don't seem to equalize themselves for the system. There is a nice Mute function that allows you to lower the sound, but the TV Sound is definately higher than that of DVD movies. I had to crank the volume to get the DVD sound to match the volume I get from Cable TV channels. Other than sound problems, I like the system. Still getting used to the controls.
Rating: Summary: Great product Review: This is a great product!!! Shipping was fast and I got a great low price...
Rating: Summary: Better than you're told.... Review: This is a great system and it has more extras that you're told about. You can go to govideo.com and read all about it, but here are some of the main extras not mentioned. This system has Dolby® Digital and DTS™ Digital Output For Playback of DTS-encoded DVDs, Bookmarks, Zoom and Audio During 2x Scan Virtual Surround (3D Sound), 10-Bit Video Digital to Analog Converter and 27MHz Advanced Digital Filter. Complete Program Record™ Automatically Adjusts Tape Speed So You Don't Miss the End of Your Recorded TV Show, Child Lock for Toddler-Proofing Front Panel ....the list goes on and on. I just thought everyone should know everything this system offers before deciding. I hope this is helpful.
Rating: Summary: Liked it at first, bought 2nd one...... now both are dead! Review: To be honest, I haven't owned the 4000, but I do own the DVR4200 combo, and I think its quite nice (my rating is based on the 4000 versus the 4200). I haven't had the audio issues that others have brought up with the 4000, and I own a Dolby Digital receiver from forever and a day ago. The DVD player works fine, as a DVD, CD, and MP3 player. Haven't had any quams.Just thought that might help...I'd say don't bother with the 4000...waste of money.

Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT Review: Unit is very easy to install and use. Video and audio very good. Easy to make tapes from DVD. Easy overall operation. Good instruction book No regrets - going to but another for grand kids.
Rating: Summary: Wouldn't recommend it Review: Very easy to set up and the features are fine, but the DVD audio was definitely poor, and the remote is horribly complex. Also, there's this weird instruction on the Box, "Don't take this back to the store. Call our 800 number." Why would thy have this on the box unless they had significant quality problems?
Rating: Summary: good, but what's with the hum? Review: we have plenty of VHS tapes for my kids, but really, DVDs are what to own nowadays, and this combo VCR/DVD made the most sense for the $ at the time. consumer reports liked it, friend had it, enough said. and it's a solid machine. but it's making this low freq hum that's driving me nutty. it's not loud enough to bother anyone in the room, nor does it seem like a mech prob, but it's loud enough that it's just weird. never had a DVD or a VCR make this noise before. ... could be. but that's why it's 3 stars, and not 4 or 5.
