Summary: A Great Action Western
Review: First of all I'd like to say to the bashers, If you need historical accuracy to be entertained go watch the Discovery Channel. (sorry for venting) This was a great movie, the battle scenes, the portraits of all the defenders, action, humor and a tear at the end. Does anyone watch a John wayne movie for historical accuracy? Please Historically all these people stood there ground, and died, nuff said about history.

Summary: The Alamo - Totally Underrated!
Review: The Alamo - A true masterpiece, Sheer Spectacle, This movie has it all. The Directors cut on widescreen video is the best version I've seen to date, as the recent DVD release in the UK only runs for 155 mins, shame. This film is begging out for a re-release in the cinema, as they don't make 'em like this anymore, only "Gladiator" comes close. I think a whole new generation of people would love this film, and appreciate the history behind the film too. A special mention should go to the Music by Dimitri Tiomkin, a great soundtrack album. If you're looking for a great adventure film, look no further. (Even the poster art is great! )

Summary: Simply the best
Review: It touched me deeply. I even traveled all the way to Texas to see the Alamo. To stand there and to realise what happened there really gave me the chills, just like the movie. The music is also fantastic. This movie is really one of my all time favourites.

Summary: Great Entertainment
Review: It's a little too long, somewhat inaccurate, and occasionally irrelevant. I still think it's a great picture. The actors are terrific, the set is amazing, and the whole story is something few people outside of Texas know about. The kind of film that grabs you and never lets go.

Summary: Director's Cut the only version to own
Review: For those fans of Wayne's The Alamo, the wide screen director's cut is the only version to own. Film reconstructors have included the original overture, intermission, and end themes. For those only familiar with the shorter version Alamo shown repeatedly over the decades this version offers a significantly different feel. Watch for these "new" scenes: -the deadly conclusion of the raid to obtain gunpowder from the chuch at Bexar -Travis' complete speech to Dickenson on his feelings for the defenders -Crockett's night with the Senora -the Senora's brief scene with a young actress playing a fleeing Bexar woman, this actress was latered murdered during the filming of the Alamo by her boyfriend -scenes showing the deaths of the Tennessee characters Scotty and the Parson -the Birthday party for the Dickenson child -Crockett's prayer scene following the death of the Parson -the extended "last night" philosophical discussion amongst the Alamo defenders, that almost results in a fight -Bonhams original report to Travis -the "other" Crockett death scene, slightly different from the one usually shown In addition to a few other scenes, note the extensive use of crucifix iconography throughout the film, especially with the Bowie character and Crockett prayer scene...although criticised for being overblown and historically inaccurate , the director's cut Alamo is a powerful, visually stunning piece of work viewed 40 years later.

Review: the move was fine. i thought he sood got a ocar for best actor,i think that most people din't like the because there was a lot of moves of the alamo. i thank he did a great job playing the part of dave crocket.

Summary: One of John Wayne's best movies
Review: This is simply one of his greatest movies, mostly because it says everything about the man and his ideals in one package. Wayne is perfectly at home as a hell-raising Crocket. His long speeches give insight to what Wayne himself stood for, namely, honor, patriotism, country. Wayne also shows that he learned a thing or two from Howard Hawks and John Ford. The action scenes easily equal the best efforts of either of his mentors. All in all, a VERY worthwhile movie.

Summary: A wonderful fictionalized action film
Review: As an amateur historian and reenactor of the Texas Colonial Period, I cannot recommend the is film as a historical documentary. The characters are all fictional accounts of actual people...some who were there and some who were not...their characterizations fabricated and the military tactical sequences totally incorrect.But looking at the film as an action film using the Alamo as a backdrop, I found it very entertaining. When I first saw this film many years ago, before I learned the details about the Texas Revolution and the Alamo role,I thought the action scenes were the best. Americans of larger proportions manhandling small insignificant soldiers in droves was typical of the World War II Hollywood movies from the 40's and 50's I loved as a kid. Later in my college film classes, I would learn they were called propaganda films. And I would shed the influence of exciting Hollywood versions of real events as support of understanding and knowledge. That being said, I think therefore this film must be given its due as an exciting fictionalized American action film borrowing from well known American legendary perceptions to add to the flavor.

Summary: Over 2 hours of great action and adventure for all!
Review: The Alamo, the movie has been and always will be my families all-time favorite Alamo movie. John Wayne as Davy Crockett, is a brilliamt and different portrait of one of our nations greatest heroes. Richard Widmark, another family favorite, playing Jim Bowie, cannot be beat. Chill Wills as Beekeeper, Hank Wardon as the preacher are two exceptional actors that help bring out the movie. Richard Boone, as the best actor who has played General Sam Houston, absolutely cannot be bested in this role! I suggest this movie as pure entertainment not historical on all accounts. The Alamo is a movie I grew up watching every year on San Jacinto Day, and I will continue to watch it if played on that day as a sort of family tradition.

Summary: good movie for action
Review: It is one of the worst movies on the alamo i have ever seen and it doesn't really show the alamo and the 187 men that were massacered there. It is totally inacurate and unrealistic. I like John Wayne and everything but this movie really sucks. If you want to see the real story try watching The Alamo: 13 days to glory.
