Review: Okay, everybody agrees that this DVD's quality from those good folks at Goodtimes Home Video ranks right up there with Pacific Family Entertainment. Only good for the shredder. But alas, with the sad passing of the Duke's son, Michael Wayne, Batjac Productions will finally be releasing McLintock! and many other great JW films sometime the Spring of 2005. So hold off on this piece of digital nonsensical matter and keep an eye out for the real thing. Review: First of all,let me say that the review of McLINTOCK ! isn't the god-awful Goodtimes Edition that's pictured above,but the version that I'm reviewing is the Diamond Entertainment edition of the film that's paired with the 1973 Documentary THE AMERICAN WEST OF JOHN FORD.John Wayne stars in the title role of the classic 1963 western comedy that features Wayne as a Cattle Baron who enjoys his life,that is,until his ex-wife Katherine (Maureen O' Hara) comes into the picture.McLintock and Katherine duke it out (no pun intended !) in a knock-down,dragged-out fight at the 4th of July celebration that's as memorable as any of the entire parts of the film.The spanking scene with the shovel remains one of the films' greatest and funniest highlights !! McLINTOCK ! is one of the most available John Wayne films out released,due in fact to its public domain status since the films copyright was accidentally not renewed.That means that there are numerous low-budget companies such as Goodtimes,United American Video,and Laserlight to name a few have released very s**tty copies of this terrific and great film with picture and sound quality ranging from attrocious to the very attrocious.Since then,the Wayne Estate bought back the films copyrights in 1995 and has been availible on VHS only by MPI.But this Diamond edition of the film has good picture quality,but not pristine perfect as well as the running time of 124 mins (three minutes shorter than the original release),although mislabeled 127 mins on the cover.Recently,I've read press releases that Paramount is going to release the "authorized" version of this film sometime around next year,but in the meantime, the Diamond Entertainment version of McLINTOCK ! is the one-version you have to own,plus the John Ford Documentary makes this a perfect buy from a great company like Diamond Entertainment.Now there's a company that really gives the customers an eye candy for their money AND cares about quality too ! Not bad for $5 at FYE (where I purchased this from)!

Review: This is one of the funniest, if not THE funniest Wayne/O'Hara movies ever! You never stop laughing - AT ALL!!!!!!!!!
Summary: G.W. McLintock (John Wayne) owns more than half of the land in the territory. He is visited by his wife, Kahtarine (Maureen o'Hara), who says she wants a divorce. But McLintock won't give it to her. Then she says that their daughter, Rebecca (Stefanie Powers) is coming home from school. Kahtarine wants to take her to live with her at the capital. but he says no yet again. She becomes infuriated with him and he leaves. G.W. then hires a settler, Devlin Warren (Patrick Wayne), to work for him. He also hires his mother (Yvonne De Carlo) to cook for him. So all is well - until Mrs. McLintock takes charge!!! She moves back in with G.W. and takes over the house. The next day, they find out that one of the settler's daughters was kidnapped by the Indians - so they thought. I turns out, that her and one of the other settlers went for a moonlit ride and "the horse ran away". They all got into a big fight which ended up with everyone falling into the huge mudpit at the bottom of the hill. Even Mrs. McLintock!

Review: Reading other reviews on this and wanted to let you know the reasoning for the bad quality of the DVD. This is not the authorized version of the movie. The authorized version released by Batjac (Wayne's production company) will have an orange cover. The blue cover is not authorized.

Review: This is a rather entertaining western based on the Taming of the Shrew. The star studded cast makes this an enjoyable movie to watch.

Review: DON'T THROW OUT THE VHS!! I foolishly didn't look in this section and see the previous reviews of the DVD before I bought it. Bad move. This DVD is the worst quality DVD transfer I have seen. I compared the VHS and the DVD at the same time: The DVD was out of focus, color over-modulated and the picture slightly enlarged, so that, not only do you lose the Cinemascope aspect, but you also lose 5-10% of the vertical picture. You would get a better DVD if you copied the VHS using a DVD recorder and doing it yourself. I myself have tossed the DVD, kept the box and I'll make a copy.
