Summary: Classic
Review: I saw this at the show when I was 13. It was a huge hit, and I can still remember the audience reaction when Newman and Ross took off on the bicycle to "Rain Drops Keep Falling on my Head," by B.J. Thomas. Of course the song was a huge hit because the movie was.Newman and Redford had a great chemistry. They were pals on screen, and became great buddies off screen. The director originally wanted Steve McQueen for the part of the Sundance Kid, but for reasons I can't recall, he didn't get or take the part. McQueen would have been a great Sundance, but Redford made it his own and we have this classic to watch over and over again. Parts here and there now date the movie, such as the vocals in the later part when Butch, Sundance and Etta are in Bolivia robbing banks, but the script is timeless, as is the hilarious bickering and banter between Butch and Sundance. Westerns are not my favorite genre, but this is one western I truly love to watch.

Summary: They Do Not Shoot Films Anymore
Review: The title above these comments is a quote from Paul Newman made while commenting 25 years after the making of, "Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid". He went on to say that what is shot now are schedules, deadlines, and actor's bonuses. Both of the films he made with Robert Redford would seem to prove his point. On the list of top-grossing films adjusted for the changes in ticket prices, "The Sting", is number 16 and would take in $520+million today, and, "Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid", ranks at number 31, and today would gross $403+million. The extra information that is shared on a DVD should never be more important than the film, and that is not the case here. What is interesting is that the main players talked more about substance than just commenting on what a perfect experience they had. Paul Newman and Robert Redford are well established and need have no concern what anyone may think of their comments, but it still would be nice to have more candor in newer films from newer actors. There are many who are making 10-25 million dollars and should not have a concern about being candid. This was the first of only 2 films that Newman and Redford would make together. Both this and, "The Sting", were box office successes, and it was almost hard to believe that no studio made an effort to pair these two actors again. Redford commented that the two alternatives that both actors declined were sequels to the two films mentioned, and that other than those two no film ever has interested the two actors enough to pursue it. It would seem that anyone attempting a screenplay could do much worse that trying to craft a film for these actors and to do it soon before time takes the opportunity away. The film differs from traditional westerns in that it is based on two characters that actually did exist. Much about the pair and, "The Hole In The Wall Gang" can be considered legend or myth, but there is enough truth to make the film interesting. Butch Cassidy's sister did appear at the filming of the movie, and she provided a story of her own that Robert Redford shares during his comments. The additional information the DVD offers includes pictures of the real people that are the main characters in the film. There are three sequences in the film that viewers will either enjoy, or dislike; I fall in to the latter category. There is a total of 12 minutes when there is no dialogue, just a soundtrack, and the music was contemporary to the time of the movie's creation. "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head", may have been a chart topping song, but I found it bizarre and out of place. Some of the films main characters did as well, but they also said the public enjoyed the music, so who were they to say otherwise. An enjoyable film with some quirks that is also one of only two instances that Paul Newman and Robert Redford shared the screen. This was also the film that made Robert Redford in to a major star, so there is a good movie and some American History as well.

Summary: Hey Kid, How good are you?
Review: An amazing western movie. Absolutely terrific filmmaking. Robert Redford is so dazzling that he can make the audience to go wild over him. Having Paul Newman in the film gives a comic aspect that the movie is never dull. Katherine Ross is a beautiful actress.
What an amazing shot of the introduction. Just following parts. Never the whole picture. So focused. Following the parts describes how a masterpiece of the film is. great color use. Excellent use of shadows. The "How good are you?" is an instant classic. I loved the special feature of the film where George Roy Hill does his narrative on how he made the film in a year and 3 months. he took the chance to caption the segment. That is rare since most movies seldom do this. As a deaf viewer, I am at most respect for him. He spoke of many interesting things.
George Roy Hill is an artist and has a great sense of humor. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a mind-blowing film that has to be studied by filmmakers all around, who want to make great classics.

Summary: An All American film
Review: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is pure fun. It is the story of two outlaws, Butch Cassidy and his partner, Sundance. Butch is kind of wild and is always coming up with schemes to make some quick money. Sundance is his partner and the quickest draw around. Together, they are a dynamic and unpredictable pair that are a lot of fun to watch. Before long, Butch and Sundance discover easy money in robbing banks. After robbing many banks, they become legendary fugitives from the law. They are wanted by the law in many states and they continue to strike at will, emptying the banks of all of their cash. Before long, the law begins to catch up with the pair and they are forced to flee to South America to avoid prosecution. In South America, Butch and Sundance regain their old form and continue to rob banks. They also become famous in South America known as "Bandidos Yaknees." In a moment of luck, the law stumbles upon the pair and a gunfight erupts as Butch and Sundance duck for cover. While being raked with bullets, Butch and Sundance discuss their options and ultimately go down the same way they came on the scene, with guns blazing. This is a fun movie for the whole family and I would recommend it for any avid movie fan. It is the product of the old-time Hollywood era, movies are just not made like this anymore.

Review: What can be wrong with Paul Neumann and Robert Redford as Butch and Sundance!? They're great and the movie is wonderful. If you like westerns, enjoy this two actors (especially when much younger) - get this movie!

Summary: Perfect blend: Action, Comedy, and Actors
Review: You've got Robert Redford and Paul Newman. You've got an action packed script with alot of dry comedy. It is an excellent movie, and should have won the Oscar in 1969. George Roy Hill directed the film beautifully, and the duo of Newman and Redford make Katherine Ross irrelevant. The action and comedy keeps you throughout the entire movie. I would watch it every time it came on AMC. The pace of the movie never slows, and it is truly a classic. A must own for any movie collectors.
