Summary: Watch for the Stylistic Camera only
Review: Well, if you want bad acting (except for Hackman) you got it, but if you want to be dazzled by beautiful camera shots which make the camera an active participant within the film, watch it (but turn the volume down). Simply put..acting..bad...camera style...good.

Summary: Bad Movies I Love....
Review: ...and The Quick and the Dead is at the top of the list. Yes, the script is rotten, storyline implausible, acting basically one-dimensional, camera angles distracting, and gunshot effects ridiculous - who cares? The same descriptions could be used to describe most of Clint Eastwood's spaghetti westerns. Whether intentional or (my suspicion) unintentional; this movie is a delicious parody of those westerns. And you can't help getting wrapped up in the story and rooting for the good guy (girl). Don't expect "The Unforgiven", but if you're a fan of spaghettis, watch this movie and have a good time. The music is dead-on-perfect. Confession: The primary reason I watched this movie twice in one day the first time I rented it was 'that guy who played Cort'. I'd never heard of him, but he was gorgeous! When Russell Crowe picks up his Oscar next March for The Insider, I will cheer a deserved recognition for his incredible acting ability - not particularly noticable in the Quick and the Dead, by the way - but the thought of the extra fifty pounds and thin grey hair he was decked out in still makes me wince.

Summary: A great popcorn movie... don't take it seriously and enjoy!
Review: Most of the reviews I have read concerning this movie focus on how "unrealistic" the plot appears. Clearly I must be in the moviegoing minority, because the day I want to see a "realistic" Western is the day I lick razor blades and ask for a salt chaser. Hello, the reality of the American West was poor dental hygiene and short, brutal lives. Really, who wants to see a putrefying belly shot? Sam Raimi pays a stylish homage to Spaghetti Westerns (like Sergio Leone made realistic films). Even the music tips its hat to these classic films. Bottom line? A great popcorn movie with some great lines and one truly great performance. Russell Crowe is the most underrated actor working today. Anyone who does not think so should watch this movie back-to-back with the great(but very disturbing) Aussie film Romper Stomper. These characters, polar opposites, are played with the same intensity and energy to totally different effect. The viewer can palpably feel the coiled anger, barely kept in check when Cort is forced to prepare for his first duel. Watch this movie for that reason alone, then realize that in the upcoming film The Insider, that the role of the whistle blower is played by the same, 35-year old Crowe.

Summary: Sharon and Gene try, but it ain't no use
Review: Well, if you combine some pretty good actors with an overblown story and details that you really wouldn't want kids to see, you come out about here. Considering what they had to work with, the people that made this thing could have made a much better movie. DiCaprio's character is obnoxious enough that you wind up thinking he gets what he deserves.

Summary: A Wester Whoop of a good time (is that cornball or what?)
Review: The other night, after seeing "A Simple Plan", I decided I had to see the other Raimi movie that I'd somehow missed when it originally came out. "The Quick and the Dead" was absolutely great. Unlike the previously aforementioned film (in which the director was far more reserved, and perhaps - dare I say - more refined), this was Raimi unleashed, the spurs thrown off of him (no pun intended). The shots were amazing... I'm referring to the film shots, not the gun shots (which were also pretty keen). There is simply no way to describe some of those camera angles. The action was sharp, swift, and relentless. Sharon Stone was great... the "dark lone stranger coming to town". It was refreshing to see a woman in this role. And Leanardo was actually bearable. Honest. I couldn't believe it. But I have to warn you. This film is not for everyone. Some of the violence can be shocking, some of the sequences absurd,... and,... well, if you're not used to Mr. Raimi's visual flare, it may not be your cup of tea. But I loved it. And darn tootin', that's what counts.

Summary: Well worth watching.
Review: Sure it was unbelievable but great fun to watch. Was great to see a female play the heavy in a weatern for a change. If you like spagetti type westerns you love this one.

Summary: Suspension of Dis-belief...
Review: Well, I have read many of the reviews on this page, and all of the bad ones seem to indicate that this movie was un-believable. Well, DUH! I mean, come on! But so were ALL of the Clint Eastwood cowboy films... yes, all of them. If you want hyper-realistic movies of the west, then definately don't see this one. I liked it for many reasons, but the biggest reason was: it's entertaining to watch. I think that the film was well done on all levels.... with exception to the reality issue, of course!! Acadamy Award Winning? No, not close, but it is still fun.

Summary: A stylish , visually incredible modern western.
Review: Sam Raimi's films is a very stylish take on western movies as his innovatively flamboyant visuals and creative direction make this one of the best western movies ever made. man and Stone give riveting performances as well as Dicaprio who although having a small role proves his presence. Being attacked as an unoriginal pastiche of Leoni's spaghetti western is a huge misjudgement as indeed Raimi borrows a bit from old westerns , but his film is a unique stylishly made wetsern that stands on its own.

Summary: An overall brilliant film, different from other Westerns
Review: I don't normally watch Westerns, because they are usually portrayed as being boring. The Quick and the Dead was quite different, it added humour and suspense and made the storyline evn more gripping. I am actually studying The Quick and the Dead for my A Level Media Studies topic, so I have watched the film many times and have had to cut it up frame by frame - I am still not bored of it and could watch it hundreds of times and still enjoy it. I think that Sharon Stone's roll in it, shows men that women are much more capable of doing things that they would never think we could do!!
