Summary: one of my four favorite esterns
Review: this vastly underrated film has it all. the themes involved when decent men want to just live peaceably but cannot continually ignore vicious thugs who care for no one is timeless. this film takes it's place in my pantheon of the magnificent seven, rio bravo, and the wild bunch. enjoy!

Summary: Tombstone DVD
Review: The DVD is excellent and exciting to watch over and over. Although much of the history has been squashed and somewhat changed the authenticity of the setting and characters actually is more dead on than other versions of the story. Val Kilmer gives one of his best performances ever as Doc Holliday and plays well against Kurt Russell's more controled Wyatt Earp. It would be nice however, for the DVD to have included any of the many scenes which were deleted after filming. This version features none and doesn't fully take advantage of the technology. Also, production notes would have been nice to have to. Hopefully a more fully expanded version will be released. For Earp fans check the credits for who is playing Billy Clayborn.

Summary: Very Well Done
Review: Although many movies have been made with the same plot. This was one of the better ones. The storyline was set out so you get to know each and every character and learn what they're doing and their general thinking. A very interesting movie which portrays every character well.

Summary: One of my three favorite movies
Review: A booming mining town in the old west brings together three brothers looking to make their fortune together. Only two things interfere with this.

First, there is a lot of crime and wrongdoings taking place in the town limits of Tombstone, Arizona; and second, one of the brothers is the famed peacemaker, Wyatt Earp.

What ensues is one of the best action movies that was ever made. I'm not much for the whole western genre of film, but this movie has me hooked. A strong script surrounded by a great cast and even a couple of cool cameos (look for Billy Bob Thorton and Charlton Heston).

The real reason for this movie though is Val Kilmer. Far and away his greatest performance as he steals this movie right out from under the feet of the other performers.

The one group I wouldn't reccommend this movie to are those who are looking for an accurate rendition of the events that occurred in Tombstone and the shootout at the OK Corral. The script took a lot of liberties with actual events in the name of Hollywood. If you don't mind that, then you must own this movie.

Summary: One for the western buffs
Review: A blockbuster of a western which has Kurt Russell portraying legendary gunslinger Wyatt Earp.

This version of an oft filmed period in the" old west"begins where Earp is trying very hard to leave his violent days behind him and move to a quieter life in Tombstone with his brothers.

Unfortunately for Wyatt Earp and his brothers the quiet restfull life is sometime away as the notorious clan called "The Cowboys" have other plans for him.

A sprawling, well filmed, good to look at "cowboy picture"and although enjoyable I felt the storyline lacked originality because we have seen a number of versions, over the years,of the basic story.

Summary: A definate "need to own" for the western enthusiast
Review: This movie ranks in my top ten of favorites. The cast has your well knowns, such as Kirk Douglas, Val Kilmer (who does a very quotable Doc Holiday), and Dana Delany...but it also has Michael Biehn as Ringo (Terminator, Aliens), Billy Zane as the actor (Titanic), Powers Boothe (The Jim Jones Story) along with many other underrated talents.

The plot moves quickly, even though it is fictionalized a bit from the actual happenings in Tombstone.

The DVD doesn't have anything exceptionally special on it except for the original trailers, but if this movie gets played over and over like it does in my household, the DVD will definately survive longer than VHS tape.

Summary: I'm your huckleberry
Review: Excellent, if you like westerns and love stories. Wyatt was loyal to family and friends. Even though Wyatt and two of his brothers moved to Tombstone to be together and make money, he couldn't escape who he was and what he had been. And through circumstance he became a lawman again. He also had a friend, Doc who was loyal to him in return. They stuck together until the end. I found Doc to be funny, educated, daring and a man seeming to have no fear. My reference to this being a love story also is because of the relationship developing between Josephine and Wyatt and how in the end he found her and made her his own for the rest of their lives.

Summary: Tombstone
Review: This movie is historically accurate. Val Kilmer is brillant in the movie as Doc Holliday. He did his homework and knew the character well.

There are 2 books I believe the screen writers followed when writing this script. The first is "I Married Wyatt Earp," by Josephine Earp and the second is "Doc Holliday," by John Henry Henry.

Summary: Good story telling and a decent western
Review: I hesitated to see this movie for two big reasons: Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday. VAL KILMER? However, since I do so love westerns my curiosity got the better of me. I'm glad I did. Both actors brought the characters to life, both their good and bad sides. Kilmer did something I never though he could do: Make me forget who was playing the part. His protrayal of Holliday is well done and mesmorizing.

Tombstone starts as Wyatt Earp is arriving in town and immediately starts to build on the feud that develops between the Earps and the "Cowboys" (the Clantons, Johnny Ringo, etc). Although the story is engrossing, and action driven, it also is a little light on historical fact. As with most "OK Corral" films, the film weighs heavily on the Earps as the good guys and the Clantons as the bad. In reality, the situation was nothing more than a power struggle between two groups for control of Tombstone. Also, while there is some sexual tenson between Wyatt and Josephine, the film portrays the relationship as benign until the end, in reality the relationship took off, by most historical accounts, well before Wyatt's wife leaves and eventually dies of a drug overdose. But also certain scenes are very well grounded in history. The gunfight at the OK Corral in this movie is well scripted to what is considered the true version. Short and violent. Also Wyatt's reign of terror after his brothers are shot, and he starts to take his revenge is close to the actual events, although still to heavy on him as "the good guy".

As Westerns go though, Tombstone is fun and a watchable romp. As OK Corrall films go, probably Burt Lancaster's "Gunfight at the OK Corral" is better (although even less historical), "Hour of the Gun" with James Garner is grittier and darker (probably the closest to Wyatt's true temperment), and "My Darling Clementine" with Henry Fonda probably the best of all. Don't hesitate to watch and enjoy this film. If you like westerns you won't be disappointed.

Summary: The Second Best Film of the 1990's
Review: Pair this one with Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven" and you have the two superlative movies of the last decade. This remake far surpasses the original "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," with its perfect casting of Kurt Russell, Powers Boothe, Sam Eliott, Bill Paxton, and Jason Priestly who shows that he can exist outside of the "90210" zip code.

But it is Val Kilmer, one of Tinseltown's most gifted "chameleons" who immerses himself as the legendary Doc Holliday. Everyone in my circle of friends lauded his performance as one of the finest that has ever graced the silver screen.

The guy can act!
