Rating: Summary: For Berenger fans and lovers of good movies Review: Last of the Dogmen is the story of a trapper, played by Tom Berenger, who discovers a lost tribe of Cheyenne Indians. He is accompanied into the wilderness by a professor of Native American studies, played by Barbara Hershey, who knows the language and customs of the Cheyenne.Although the premise is almost too fantastic, the characters are very believable. The performances are excellent. With filming in the American northwest, Canada, and Mexico, the scenery is breathtaking. Direction and the sound track support and complement the acting and scenery, making the movie a wonderful experience. This movie could have become sappy and condescending. Instead it achieved a level of honest entertainment and respect for its subject. It is highly recommended to anyone interested in American history, Native American customs, the wilds of America, or who just plain like a good story. It's an unforgettable movie with no ax to grind, no heavy-handed moral to tell.
Rating: Summary: Going native Review: The premise of this movie is just barely remotely plausible. What if there was a tiny lost tribe of Cheyanne Indians still subsisting somewhere way out in the forests of Montana? Given the vast expanse of wooded area + the relatively sparse population that lives in the American northwest, this is almost believable. The outstanding Tom Berenger delivers another top-notch performance as a tracker whose supsicions arise about the tribe's existence. Barbara Hershey portrays a professor of Native-American studies whom he invokes to help find them. The movie was filmed in the American northwest, Mexico & Canada, and the scenery is exquisite. The direction and soundtrack complement the acting, direction and setting to form a movie that is splendidly well-done across the board. This film is highly recommended for all Native Americans as well as persons who are interested in American history. It's also recommended for people who just plain want to see a good film. The story of this American Indian tribe suspended in time is likely to be unforgettable.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: This is a wonderful movie that makes one wish some Cheyenne had survived Sand Creek to carry on their way of life hidden in the mountains. The cast is perfect from Berringer, Hershey, Reevis and even Zip. The only problem could be that people who don't know their western history might be a bit lost as to what actually happened. Also it was a bit distracting to me as I know that the real life Lone Wolf was Kiowa, not Cheyenne. This movie should be remember as one that shows the American Indian as a great people whose culture and way of life shouldn't be lost forever.
Rating: Summary: Excellent !!!!!!!!! Review: If you haven't seen this movie, you don't know what your missing. I recommend everyone should see this. Fabulous movie. Makes a person wonder if there really are Indian Tribes that are secluded in the Wilderness. And still living off the Land.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: What can I say? It's a perfect movie! If you like Dances With Wolves, you'll love this even better! Add this your classic DVD movie collection!
Rating: Summary: Has the version without narration! Review: The DVD contains the film as it was released in the theatres, but also a version available that leaves out Wilfrid Brimley's running narrative. While it was a fine film in its original release, the voice-over was at times annoying and self contradictory. (How did the narrator get the protagonist to tell this story, when he was so dedicated to keeping it secret?!) It is a much better film without the narrative. That version also makes it obvious that the narrative was completely unnecessary to the film in the first place. Buy this if you liked the original.
Rating: Summary: This film is great !!! Review: This film is in my top 10 list. Any free time I get, I am on the computer, doing research and learning about the American Indians. This was their land first, not ours. I feel for them. This movie is a 4 out of 5 star film, but I gave it 5 stars, because I love the Indian culture and Tom Berenger was awesome to. Perfect choice for the bounty hunter role. He has the size and the "look", to play the perfect cowboy/backwoodsmen role, unlike many of todays male actors that have mostly become a bunch of sissys. As far as actors go these days, there are very few "real men" left in Hollywood. It's a shame. Just watch TV on any night of the week, and you'll see for yourself, how the male is portrayed as a fool and an idiot, and is generally of weak nature. What's happening to society ??? Well, definitely see this movie. If you love beautiful scenery, then you will like this movie, just for that alone.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST Review: THIS MOVIE IS SO GREAT THAT WE ALREADY WORE OUT ONE TAPE ALREADY AND WHEN AND PURCHASED TWO MORE TAPES OF THIS MOVIE JUST SO WE WOULD HAVE THEM AND NOW WE GOT IT ON DVD AND THAT JUST MAKES IT BETTER.
Rating: Summary: Last of the Dog Soliders by morganrider7 Review: If Tom is in it; well worth your time.
Rating: Summary: A fantasy come to life... Review: A movie which, while very predictable and romanticized, was GREAT viewing. A wonderful adventure and a story which makes you think. How incredible it would be to find a group of Natives that were untouched by the white man's influence and violence. Brings home the reality of the terrible cost of the European settler's disruption of the Native American culture.
