Summary: THE MOTHERLODE! 6 DVDS, NOT 3 AS STATED -- REMASTERED!
Review: That's right -- I had to order it to find out, but the three films in this excellent set have been completely remastered. Word on the single DVD Lonesome Dove was that it was a great disappointment -- full of artifacting, and simply too much running time for a single disc. Well, this set remedies that problem in spades. I would have paid this price just to get a decent print of the first film, so you can imagine my delight when it arrived and I discovered that the three DVDs I thought I was getting had magically become six. Do not hesitate.

Summary: Not Just A Western--A Film For Everyone
Review: The all star epic of two Texas rangers seeking adventure and excitement of the unknown--Lonesome Dove definately approaches audiences with a method never done before. Its portrayal of triumph and tragedy; romance and misfortune; humor and satire;-- all against the backdrop of the mysterious frontier makes Lonesome Dove one of the most clever Westerns of all time. Lonesome Dove delivers more than the typical Western does; it delivers a story of growth, loss, and ambivalence--a story everyone will enjoy.

Summary: Finally....real acting
Review: This is by far the best movie I have ever seen, or will ever see! The most realistic western ever made. It was not glamorized by any Hollywood standard. The locations, clothing and acting were completely convincing. You have to love a movie that can cause grown men to laugh and cry....no matter how many times they have seen it. A truly amazing picture!!!

Summary: great western
Review: This is certainly one of the best movies ever.It does have clear social issues: male-bonding, women who want to domesticize men, the black man who hangs with the cowboys, but who doesn't give orders...I'm not knitpicking. This is still a powerful movie. The only mini-series I've ever seen that I would recommend.

Summary: Best Collection Ever
Review: This is the best collection ever. The characters of Gus and Captain Call played by Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones could not have been played by anyone else and still have the exceptional show that transpired. We have watched this show so many times we could be in it. You never get tired of a truly awesome show like this.

Summary: Set gets 4 Stars because it's Missing Something...
Review: This review is only on the completeness of the set. I bought the set and viewed "Lonesome Dove" once again, this time on DVD. I have not viewed the other two movies. You can get reviews elsewhere on all three movies and the DVD quality.

Why wasn't "Return to Lonesome Dove" included? Legal or distribution rights issues? The inclusion of that movie would have made it a complete set for me.

Summary: Lonesome Dove Collection
Review: When I first seen Lonesome Dove was when it made its first showing on TV back in 1988. I was glued to the set more than I ever have been. This has got to be the BEST western ever made. It has everything that you would want to see in a western. Cowboys and Indians, Horses, Cattle, Love, Hate, Sadness, Happieness, And ACTION. I still watch it to this day. I know the movie so well I can resite the script. This is my favorite movie of all time. I watch it at least every couple of months. I give it as many stars as this review will let me. Give it a watch. I believe you will love the ride too.

Many Thanks,
Dawn Wechtenhiser
