Rating: Summary: Not a mini/shelf-system! Review: I have to start by saying... This thing is huge. If you are looking for a bookshelf/mini system, look elswhere, you won't like this. I was in the market for a mini/micro/bookshelf system that played MP3's and found only this one is available, the Aiwa XS-V30 (my first choice) is "discontinued" by Aiwa, words direct from Aiwa. The Philips FW-M55 is hideous looking and poor reviews.RCA specs this "system" at 12"W x 10"H x 14"D, but this did not include speakers. Speakers are 10"W x 13"H x 12"D for each speaker. Also, RCA specs the weight at 28 lbs, again, this does not include speakers. Total weight 55lbs. The first thing I did not like about this system, ... the speaker wires are hard-wired to the speaker. One RCA-style connector (for mid & tweeter), one stripped set (woofer), hard to make wires longer without cutting and replacing the RCA connector or buying more RCA cables! Second thing is the sound. Yes, it is loud. But if you don't play it loud, you will hear the hiss. The his is louder than most stereo systems and can be related to tape-hiss (back in the days of cassette tapes/8-tracks) I have also noticed, during MP3 playback, some MP3's when played back the unit will change the playback bitrate and cause momentary pauses/skips, even though the MP3's are encoded at 128kb and play fine in WinAmp. Third... This system make a LOT of noise when changing CD's! I would not suggest this system as a high-quality system to anyone. Yes, it plays MP3's, but the quality is not great for a stereo system!
Rating: Summary: Great Stereo for the price and features Review: I've had this stereo for 2 months now and love it. Although it's big, you can place the speakers far from the main player to minimize the size. It plays all my mp3's, cd-r's, and cd-rw's without any problems. The sound quality is great for the price you pay. This is a good system if all you own are cds (i.e. no tapes). I listen to it every morning and night. I would definitely recommend it to my friends and family.
Rating: Summary: Think twice Review: This system looks great; moreover, it sounds great, unfortunately the quality is far from great. I had this out of the box and hooked up within minutes, I placed five CDs in the carousel and hit the shuffle button. After about two minutes, the player got hung up and it failed to recognize two of the discs. I returned this machine the next day. Also, when you change CDs or open the carousel, it sounds like an explosion; it's loud I tell ya. I seriously wanted to like this player. Most of the shelf systems today are so ascetically hideous. This one, on the contrary, is designed for the eye; unfortunately it is not designed for the ears. Again think twice before purchasing this product.
