Summary: Ugly looks, ugly sound
Review: After reading the glowing reviews here I decided to give this glorified boom box a try. I was not impressed. It's absolutely ugly, it's big, and the sound [is horrible]. This is all fairly subjective stuff so take my opinion for what it is worth.

I just didn't like it. It's loud but that's about it. It sounded OK at lower volumes. The biggest problem I had was with the lack of depth. It was all high end, no mid range whatsoever. The sound presets (Hall, Rock, Stadium, Dance etc) were just lousy. Half of them sounded exactly the same. There was no richness there. The bass boost didn't really help, either. With no way to really control bass and treble the sound was just flat.

I ended up sending it back and getting a Kenwood NV-301. Am I glad I did. What a difference. It's stylish, elegant and it sounds 10 times better than the JVC. It has CD text which is great for all the CD-Rs you have burned, you can adjust the bass and treble, and it has an input for a subwoofer, something the JVC didn't have. Adding an inexpensive subwoofer from some place like Cambridge Soundworks will really make this thing sound even better.

Overall the JVC is just a giant boom box with boom box sound. Its THD is 10%! The Kenwood's THD (total harmonic distortion) is .09% which makes it sound richer. The Kenwood is cheaper, too.

I hope this helps.

Summary: The best system ever.
Review: From my point of view this one of the best systems you will find for your money. It is a user friendly system anybody can figure it out. The bass of it is the best I have ever heard i was comparing different brands and it doesn't get much better then this. It goes great with any kind of music that you listen to if your in to to rap it has great subwoofers for that, and it if you like rock your in luck it pumps out the best sound i have heard from a mini system. It has so many good things about it is a complete system that brings everything to the table and that makes this stereo different from the others it offers so much more. Overall I think it is a great stereo that you should at least take a look at it.

Summary: An Excellent System
Review: I bought this system from Amazon about a week ago; it was in my Gold Box...and what a treasure it is. I have been looking for a system to replace my aging Aiwa NSX-V20 for sometime now as the CD carousal started to fail. The JVC MXG500 is excellent for the following reasons:

1. FM reception is outstanding--NPR sounds great and the system's Concert Hall setting (also available Rock, Classical, Stadium, etc.) makes you feel you are "right there."

2. Sound--the sound is clear and sharp. The option to change bass to your liking (4 levels). The two subwoofers pump out a total of 160 Watts; the two speakers 80 Watts; together 240 Watts. POWER, shall we say, is more than adequate.

3. Price--bang for the buck.

4. Ergonomics--easy to setup and easy to use. Remote is intuitive.

If there was one thing that concerned me, it was the picture of the system on the website; it didn't do it justice as the system looks much better in person. Go check it out at Target.

Summary: Has to be Heard to be believed!
Review: I heartily agree with the other reviews of this unit. I have done much comparing of mini systems in the last 2 months and this one comes out on top by a long shot! I have been performing, selling, recording or listening to music for 30 years and I am not easily impressed with stereo systems.....but this one has me reeling! Not only is the bass response awesome, but this unit has a very full and spatial sounding mid-range which provides a very warm and "live" effect when listening...even without the surround sound settings! I would have never believed how deep and clear the bass is on this unit.....or how powerful it was.....unless i had brought it home.
Please don't be misled and spend a lot more money on a mini system before you listen to this one! All these great reviews are not in the least bit exaggerated.

Summary: JVC MX-G500
Review: I've been a long fan of JVC products. I replaced my JVC PC-X300 boombox with this shelf system. The sound is great and has great control features. Excellent for apartment living, saving space and providing excellent sound with out having to crank up the volume.

Summary: Very Groovy Sterio
Review: The sound from this stereo is unreal. I compared the MX-G500 to the more expensive JVC "gigatube" models at the stores, and this one actually has better bass at low volumes than they do; the subwoofers are side-firing and very effective. And the mid-range and treble are excellent, also. Controls are easy to learn and operate, as is the remote. Am I partial to JVC? Not really, as I would have bought whatever stereo sounded the best to me at the store, and this one did. One more thing I look for is how well the stereos receive stations inside the stores: if they have trouble tuning into strong stations, then forget it; I'm not buying it. This one receives excellently. The ONLY thing that bugs me is the "display" demonstration that it goes into whenever the power is interupted. But the flashing lights and Buck Rodgers effects can be cancelled with just the touch of a button. If anyone out there is looking for a great shelf system, I recommend this one.

Summary: EMINENCE
Review: this is THE best shelf system OUT TO DATE. I HAVE had this this system a little over 8 or so months. Before i purchased it, i SEARCHED for WEEK ONLINE, IN STORES, AND TESTED EVERYTHING. I purchased it when it first came out. When i took it home the sound was UNCOMPAREABLE to anything of its price range. It has 2 side-firing subwoofers whcih are 80 watts each......they are unbeleivably crisp and definite. the (((BASS))) is PREFECT for those of u who Blow their base with their cars while driving. If u dont like bass, u dont have to put so much. Bass is higly adjustable. There are also SEVERAL sound modes where u can adjust which sound range u want focused on the most (treble, mid's, bass). MUSIC HAS NEVER SOUNDED SO GOOD WITH THIS THING. This system HAS the best frequency range for its class. It features 3 CD(cd/rw compat.), remote, easy interface(and also stylish), 3 way speakers, radio, and dual cassetes. I have hooked this up to my tv. I watch movies, and play video games with this. The sound in a small room with this thing is even better than SOME surround SOUND SYSTEMS. I have had A LOT of experience with this system(8 or so months). It has not broke or experienced ANY difficulties WATSOEVEER. This thing packs a LOT. It has 240 watts of power. It has been unrivaled for months. There still are only a few systems with this much kind of power. THE TREBLE AND BASS U EXPERIENCE WHEN U LISTEN TO MUSIC AND MOVIES IS UNBELEIVABLE AND UNMATCHED......JVC MAKES SOME OF THE BEST ELECTRONICS IN THE WORLD.....IF u are looking FOR the PERFECT SYSTEM for urself(especially for a room)......LOOK NO FURTHER.......THIS HAS BEEN THE BEST BUY FOR OVER 8 MONTHS ON A SHELF SYSTEM.....THE ONLY BETTER SYSTEM IS THE NEW 480 WATT ONE MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY-JVC. TRUST ME......I GAURANTEE U WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED....DONT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING ELSE.....this will last
