Summary: biggest bang for the smallest buck
Review: After an exhaustive search for a small stereo, with a small price, to play CDs and CDRs, I happily bought the Onkyo-210. I didn't want to spend much money because I'm a starving college student. For my dollar I didn't want some space disco hemorphiditac light show with average sound quality. I prefer the Onkyo's simplicity. For less than two c-notes, I don't think there is a better sound. I will not compare this to higher end units, but in the Onkyo-210's price range there are no comparisons that would be relevant. I'm very satisfied. The sound has a big feel to it that easily fills up my studio apartment. I haven't cranked it full throttle, yet. I found using the tuner a little vexing, and I would really like separate bass/treble controls. Fortunately, I found a tone setting that meets my needs. I had owned some Onkyo stuff many years ago-an A10 that my ex-wife's ex-husband got, but that's another story for another time and place. Anyway, this definitely has that Onkyo feel (for the size this is solidly heavy) and sound. My headphones(Sennheiser PC150 ) that sounded great on my laptop just can't handle the 210. I've had my eyes on some Sennheiser HD590s for awhile. Man, there's always something more to want. Oh well, civilization, huh?

Summary: So-so value compared with the bigger brother
Review: I bought it few days ago. It's back in the store now...

First, Onkyo naming is little bit confusing. CS-210 is the symbol of the set. It consist of R-305TX receiver with Onkyo speakers (D-N3, but unsure now).

Well, it's not a bad sounding system for the price but compared with the bigger Onkyo minisystem, especially PS-509 (R-805X receiver + CD changer + Polk RT-105 speakares) which I have, it just does not cut it.

Sound is clear but it lacks the image and punch. I thought the problem is with the speakers, so I hooked up Polk RT-105 speakers which came bundled with my PS-509 (well, actually RT-105 are not real Polks, rather Polk-Onkyo joint-venture) --- better but not still noticebly inferior to the R-805X (or R-805TX). Actually I hooked up the speakers that came with CS-210 system to my R-805X receiver and guess what... the sound was better than with R-305TX!

Conclusion: not worth the money if you can get refurbished MC35TECH with speakers for $250.

Other complaints: cheap remote, no way to adjust treble and bass (possible in R-805X), noisy CD player motor, lame timer (same in PS-509/MC35TECH).

Summary: WOW WOW WOW amazing sound
Review: I bought this for an x-mas gift. My wife wanted something for the living room and I looked at the Bose wave radio but those are big $$$ for what you get. So I started reading some reviews. I came across this Onkyo system. I being a Onkyo fan decided to give it a try. I was mainly looking for the best sounding CD package that 300 bucks could buy. I found it for under 200. I never thought I would own something that sounds this good. It doesn't have the MP3 ability or DVD but man does it play a CD like nothing I have ever heard before. Initially I was pretty upset after ordering it since I could of saved another 30 bucks but after hearing the sound I just didn't care. If you don't need MP3's then buy this system. You will love it. It also has plenty of hook ups on the back for add ons.

Summary: Mediocre Performer
Review: I recently bought the Onkyo CS-210 and have been disappointed in the unit.

Overall sound quality is decidedly mediocre: the bass is weak and the sound is somewhat veiled. The "presence control" helps a bit by boosting the bass and is not too aggressive, but a subwoofer is probably necessary for truly accurate sound. This is in sharp contrast to the Yamaha MCR-E300 that I also own which, with the same power rating and speaker size, produces much better sound for not much more money.

Overall, I would not recommend this unit unless you are on a strict budget. Look for a Yamaha unit with similar specifications or consider the more expensive Onkyo M35TECH.

Summary: Excellent choice for use with other speakers.
Review: Speakers in this category are always weak, but the receiver provides 20W/channel plus has a separate subwoofer output, which would enable you to fill even a large room. Works well with my venerable Boston A60 speakers. Pairing this with Bose Acoustimass 3 speakers (or similar) promises an amazing balance of sound, space efficiency, and affordability.

This is may also be the best stereo system to buy for your Mom, with its very clean and simple controls.

Summary: A sub turned this good unit into a great one
Review: This was the best sounding of all the unit's I checked out for what I wanted to spend. I also wanted a system that had a simple design that was easy on the eyes. Not like some of the more modern obtrusive units that look like they're ready to explode before you turn them on. This unit was a x-mas gift for my wife, who wanted a new micro system for the living room. I bought this from Vann's. They were the cheapest online. It was missing the acceptable low end to make it a great stereo. KLH Basebite ll to the rescue. I found and purchased that on ebay. It was new and my cost was 2/3rds less than retail. I am satisfied with my purchase. For a shade over two hundred, I now have 90 total watts of clean well balanced pounding power. My wife is very happy with her present. Enough said.
