Summary: Great system - well designed and engineered
Review: The Panasonic SC-PM28 is a wonderful system with only the essentials and nothing more. The sound on the high-quality speakers is amazing - radio, cd's and mp3's on cd's sound great from low to high frequencies. MP3 file names are displayed on the display which is really useful if you are scrolling through hundred of songs on a disc. The five disc changer is a treat because it allows up to 2000 songs to be stored (using MP3's). 140 watts is definitely sufficient to fill any small to mid-size room with vibrant sound. The system also is pretty stylish, unlike the tacky boom-boxes with flashing lights and robotic/spaceship features that all the electronics companies are doing these days. This is perfect for any dorm room, office, lounge, apartment, or as the main stereo in a house. The casette player on top is a little outdated, but potentially handy if needed (recording from the radio, playing tapes...what are those anyways?! etc.) On the downside, the system has a slightly bulky remote (but it works fine.) Also, the clock doesn't stay on after powering off. Overall, a great stereo system with thoughtful design and the typically superb audio engineering one would expect from Panasonic.

Summary: disappointingly difficult to use
Review: This is the most difficult CD changer I've ever used!!!

I'm the type of person who likes to pop in a CD and start listening. This simple act is nearly impossible with the PM-28's five cd loader. One cannot see what is in each tray unless you cycle through them all. Moreover, I have not yet been able to change a disc while listening to another. Another annoying feature is that too many functions are controlled from the remote. Cycling between CD's is way too time consuming. What's more, the random feature does not operate on MP3's so you HAVE to listen all 100 or so songs on your disc in order. Lastly, each time you unplug the machine, you HAVE to reset the clock, or a Panasonic ad scrolls constantly.

All in all, one of the most disappointing purchases I have made in a long time.

Summary: SUPERB MICROSYSTEM
Review: This microsystem can't be beat for the price. Overall, it was easy to set up and use. The biggest draw was that it plays MP3 CDs (almost all other mircosystems I was considering did not). The clarity of the system isn't too shabby. 140 watts with bi-amped speakers help produce fine sound. Since it doesn't have a seperate subwoofer the low-end frequencies can be a little lacking (but hey, this is a nice little Panasonic system and not some $500 Nakamichi). I faced the rear ports of the speakers towards the walls to help amplify the bass (now I have to turn down the bass level).

This has been the best system I've come across (features and performance) for around $200. Check out the product specs for a full list of features.
