Description:
Tired of missing your favorite TV programs because you're intimidated by the complexity of your VCR? JVC has a VCR that will cure your anti-VCR anxiety. The JVC HRVP470U comes with VCR+, a technology that allows you to program your favorite show by simply entering in a PlusCode for your desired program. You can find these codes within TV Guide's program listings. JVC, which is the company that invented both VHS and Super VHS (S-VHS), has made a strong effort to keep this unit simple for novice VCR users. For example, this unit is completely plug and play; once you plug it in, the JVC HRVP470U will automatically set its clock as well as the current date. An auto-tuner feature scans and locks in all receivable channels in your area. We were impressed with JVC's jog/shuttle button design, known as "shuttle plus." This remote-control-based feature lets you control frame advance, variable slow motion, multiple-speed search, and index-search functions with a single button. We found navigation with the shuttle-plus button to be intuitive and comfortable. As this VCR is strong on simplicity, it lacks some of the basic features that are must-haves for home-theater enthusiasts. For example, the unit lacks hi-fi stereo playback and JVC's much-touted AV Compu Link technology, which allows multiple JVC components to "talk" to each other about their audio- and video-setting preferences. However, we can forgive these shortcomings, as the low price alone makes the JVC HRVP470U a steal. Pros: - Intuitive remote control
- Low price
- S-VHS playback compatibility
