Summary: Toshiba lives up again... at first
Review: "I own a 27 inch Toshiba television, and have enjoyed the quality and interface, and am not dissappointed with my VCR. I referred to the instruction manual once to learn how to set the time, otherwise everything was self-explanitory. The picture quality of the video was superb, as was the sound quality. I definitey think that Toshiba makes a fine quality product for a very reasonable price."

Well, that was my review from April 10th, 2000. My opinion of the VCR is now significantly different. While I have owned it for over 2 years, the hassles I now deal with shouldn't be expected from a VCR, even my mother's ten year old VCR doesn't have these issues. First, it never sync-ed the time with the cable. I just looked over this little problem. But for the past 6 months, it takes up to 20 insertions of a tape to get it to finally work. For the most part it gets jammed in the deck and auto-ejects. It will play, and play fine when it finally goes in, but it is just a hassle.

Summary: Has blue FL display on unit & works
Review: Don't listen to the other reviewersthese people don't take into account most hifi vcrs in this price range don't come in audio 17" size or with an on-unit FL clock display. It is a [hifi] vcr and acts like one. P.S. vcr has problems decoding hifi signal off other hifi encoded video tapes recorded off other home hifi vcrs.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: First off, ordering and service from Amazon was impeccable. What I've come to expect.

On to the machine. I bought the machine based on price and brand name. I thought Toshiba would provide a quality product. I was wrong.

I have cable straight into the TV - no box - very primitive.

I hooked up the VCR - no problem. The auto timer function never synced with the cable input. I go to manual set up.

When you go to manual to set up the time and other functions - turn the volume down, or else you'll get very loud static.

I set the switch on the back of the VCR to channel 3. When going to play a tape you have to have the TV set on channel 3 - AND - that still won't work. Once the tape starts playing you get static - you have to dial the TV up or down one channel, then go to channel 3 - the tape then plays fine.

When stopping the tape, the VCR makes a lot of "gear" noise. Extremely noisy when rewinding, and ejecting.

No remote eject - only manual. The remote seems extremely cheap.

All in all a very poor piece of equipment.

I would recommend that you look around at other reviews and find a better machine, consider paying a little more.

Summary: poorly assembled machine
Review: First, I realized this machine is poorly asssembled.

Second, I found the same problem described before: the auto-set function never works.

Third, the romote control is not working properly, worst of all, only the TV/VCR button and audio-select keys work, all other keys are dead, even the POWER and PROG keys. This is the first time I ever bought a machine with a dead remote.

It is ashame that TOSHIBA such a brand name produced such a bad machine.

Summary: it ate my tape
Review: got the lemon in the batch because on the first day we took it home and played a rental video. First thing we noticed was it is very noisey after powering it on and not even when you are playing a tape. But the real kicker was when it just turned itself off when it was just around the end of the movie so we didnt get to see how it ended. Tried to eject the tape but it kept turning itself off. After about 20 minutes of this, finally managed to get tape out but tape was stretched and damaged and will probably have to pay for it. Thought it might be the tape so tried another tape just to test it out and did the same thing. Very disappointed in Toshiba, thought they made a good product unless we just got a lemon this time.

Summary: very disappointed
Review: Hook up was easy, the vcr synched it's clock with my cable, then the machine stoped working. I got 30 minutes of use out of it before I had to put it back in the box and send it back to amazon.com. The VCR powers it self off after about 2 minutes of being turned on. It will not insert tapes.

Summary: Please don't waste your time/money on this JUNK
Review: How could this foul piece of machinery get a decent review from anyone is beyond me (do they work directly or indirectly for Toshiba - or the imposter that actually made this thing?). Why the heck did Toshiba put their name on this thing? Maybe I just got stuck with a lemon, but all I can say is this thing just did not work, period. The Auto setup thing was a joke - but when I tried to setup manually, that was it. Nothing worked.

...I'm sure no consumer wants it unless it works well.

Summary: Very Satisfied
Review: I have had a VCR just like this one for a couple of years. It has provided impeccable service and quality, especially for the price. Some of the reviewers who have indicated the machine did not work seem to have not connected it properly or have TV systems, etc. too old to properly connect to today's technology. I like this player so much that I am going to order another one for our kitchen family room area. It is a great price and great deal. I also own a Toshiba DVD player and love it.

Summary: Great inexpensive machine
Review: I have read some of the reviews and was puzzled to see that so many people were disappointed in the W-603 Toshiba VCR. I have had mine for almost two years and it has performed well for me. I have not had any problems with hookup, video clarity or sound. It seems to have good audio and resolution. I have it hooked up to an older tv (almost 20 years old) and I have not had a problem. However, I do not like the remote control and I do agree that there are too many buttons crowded on a small remote. I use a universal remote and that controls my tv and vcr. However, I just inherited a GE fullsize camcorder and am trying to figure out how to playback my tape from the camera into my tv using the vcr. My tv does not have the audio and video jacks since it is quite old. Any suggestions. I seem to have lost my vcr manual also, so I am at a complete loss. Any suggestions or tips will be greatly appreciated.
