Summary: Warning two thirds of the world tapes will not play on this
Review: The world is divided in regions and the tape manufacturers only produce tapes for that region. A tape available from amazon.uk.co can only play on recorders of type PAL. Other world locations use SECAM. Only the US and Canada uses NTSC format. If you buy "Dead Man's Folly" from the United Kingdom, you can not play it on this VCR. Place VCR and pal in the search box and press "go!" So far the Samsung SV-5000w VCR is the only one on the list you can also place the ASIN number in the search box B00004TEUK Samsung SV-5000w also plays the NTSC
