Summary: Great VCR for a great little price
Review: I just bought this VCR for a very reasonable price (including a rebate from JVC) Both playback and recording are excellent including my older tapes recorded in EP Easy to set up Picture on cable channels is excellent also Fast forward and reverse let you see the picture with minimal noise and the pause/still frame is almost perfect great for finding and freezing scenes you want to see The only VCR I have that is better is the RCA but that one comes with more features and a higher price and it's a much larger unit All in all the JVC gives you a lot for a little price

Summary: Excellent clear recording.
Review: I just got my HR-J691U Vcr and I must say, It records so beautifully. The picture and sound records of excellent quality. I also rec'd it very quickly. This is the 2nd JVC Vcr That I have purchased for it's quality and it's worth every penny. I would highly recommend this model. It's just the right size and the hook-up is a breeze.

Review: My three year old Panasonic VCR stopped receiving infra-red signals from any remote, making it utterly useless because all programming must be done through the remote. All the sales people I talked to said that JVC made pretty good products (many told me that JVC invented the VCR). It all sounded promising to me, but upon opening the box, I was immediately disappointed by how light-weight this VCR was. It was around 1/2 the weight of my 3 yr. old Panasonic. Maybe all of the components are made out of plastic? The case feels flimsy and it doesn't even have feet on the bottom to allow for ventilation between components.

I wasn't able to find this model in a local store before buying but the manufacturers specs led me to believe that it had all the hook-ups that I would need. Somehow I missed the fact that there are only RCA "VIDEO OUT" connections on the back of the machine and that the only RCA "VIDEO IN" jacks are on the front. I need them all in back in order to connect it to my receiver/surround sound system. It would be fine for hooking up your camcorder, but not as part of a larger A/V system. I'll be returning it this week.

Review: Purchased in May, in the shop now, should have just chucked it and bought another, probably will anyway.
Very light unit as described in previous review. Also LOUD when recording. I can't reccomend this VCR, save your money, go to a movie instead.
