Summary: well, some of its okay
Review: I had to stop using SP recording & use only LP or SLP as SP became too grainy after a couple of months. This makes a lot of noise on rewind! The remote has buttons not compatible with multiremotes. The some remote buttons are tiny-- as people have said. Its a pretty cheap vcr now & its the only one I could find with commercial advance other than the go video vcr which is a lot more. Programming it is a drag because you have to hit up/down every time for each minute or hour. I suppose mind needs a cleaning, which I can do to get recording back in SP speed. Fair enough, but there is nothing I can do about the noise on rewind. The buttons on front are larger than usual. The front lcd display shows more than just nbrs, it shows PLAY, REC, etc so you know what its doing., But if you hear a loud whirrrrrrrrr youll know its rewinding without looking at the display. It's not compatible with my Guide Plus feature either, grrrrrrrr!.....

Summary: Wonderful Features and Great Picture
Review: I love the features of this VCR, especialy the automatic commercial advance. The VCR marks the beginning and end of commercials and then automatically fast forwards through them on playback. A time-shifter's dream! I previously reviewed this as 3 stars because it was incompatible with my new Panasonic HDTV set. I found out that the TV was the problem, not the VCR. Now that I have hooked it up to my Sony XBR HDTV, I am very pleased with my purchase.

Summary: Very very loud noise while playback
Review: I needed a new vcr for the kids to use to play some ot the older videos. I have a very old panasonic but needed another vcr for the basement. This unit was very easy to setup but the noise while playing a tape require to turn the volume on the tv to hear the movie. Also the picture quality is very poor compared to the old panasonic I already have. A lot of nice features but quality is very poor. I am sending it back now. Beware it does not have the same quality as the older panasonic.

Summary: This machine is psychotic
Review: I only bought this machine because it has 4 hour recording capability. That's the only thing going for it with me. The
auto tracking causes more trouble than its worth. There's a dreadful hum with my prerecorded tapes, worse with some than others. It also chews tapes-they were both T-160s but this thing's predecessor an RCA-ProScan that I had for over 7 years before it went the way of all good things never did that no matter what brand of tape I put in

Summary: Nice VCR
Review: I purchased this VCR as a primary unit in a home theater setup. Setup was smooth, especially the auto clock and auto channel setup.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Moview Advance feature actually worked. It's designed to skip the movie previews that are at the beginning of most commerical tapes. I tested this feature on a variety of tapes, and it worked as advertised. A great feature for those of us who's kids are exposed to enough advertising as it is.

However, extras aside, I found the playback quality extremely poor. There were visible lines and "waves" that appeared on commerical tapes as well as tapes that the unit recorded itself. Adjusting the tracking did not help.

I really wanted to like this VCR but it's going back.

Summary: Poor picture quality on recordings
Review: I purchased this VCR since my old one was also Panasonic and worked well over the years. The features of this new VCR are great. However, I am now on my second one after having returned the first. The first one made a great deal of noise from the motor and recorded video playback was grainy. The second unit is much more quiet during operation, but the viewing of recorded video is terrible. There is a very noticeable degradation of the picture upon playback and an "interference" type line wiggling along the bottom. Adjusting the tracking does not solve the problem. I have purchased new tapes, but that has not changed anything. This second unit is going back to the store tomorrow. After reading other reviews, I am wondering if Panasonic produced a bad "batch" of this model VCR. There seems to be too much disparity between reviews where some say the picture is excellent and others say it's terrible. I am still debating whether I will try a third unit of this same model and brand.

Summary: Nice VCR
Review: I purchased this VCR to replace my several year old Panasonic one. The biggest difference is the sound. I love good sound effect, and the PV-V4621 is great! It integrates very well into my home theater system with nice Dolby 5.1 . I'm not sure if the picture quality is much better than my old one though. The playback of recorded TV program seems grainy, a little worse than expected. The noise during rewinding is way too loud, but the action was fast. The VCR plus feature is great. Overall, a good VCR in this price range.

Summary: It's what they don't tell you that counts in VCRs
Review: I studied ratings and descriptions carefully before selecting this model; so thought I was getting something that would give me a lot of control--but didn't realize that many of the features for which I selected it don't work with my cable connection:VCR+ is incompatible; in order to be able to record off the air, I had to have someone come up from the cable company to program it in a way that was not described in the manual, which I did read very carefully. It does play very well when I use a readymade videotape--but I wanted more than that.

Summary: Works fine, no surprises
Review: I've had it a few weeks, and everything has worked as expected. The power save and commercial advance features are very useful, and work as advertised. Minor disappointments are that only 8 programs can be set up, and the programming interface could be better. For example, I could easily enter the program time using the number keys (1-2-3-0 for 12:30, for example), but instead I must use the up and down arrows, slowly advancing from 01 to 30.
