Rating: Summary: I'd pass on this VCR Review: I purchased this as a secondary VCR to my Sony SLV-N51. During the first few months I had no problems at all. The remote is pretty decent and has well layed out buttons. The image quality and sound isn't very good at all and is of much lower quality than that of my equally priced Sony SLV-N51. The Sony has it's problems and it's the best VCR but I would easily say it's better than this one. This is most likely the worst VCR I've owned. Just recently the image quality has been getting worse and worse. I play certain tapes and the picture is all fuzzy. Tapes recorded on another VCR in EP/SLP are nearly unviewable. What's strange about this VCR is that it now seems to pick up more of a fuzzy picture than when playing it in my other new VCRs. Dirty HEADS you ask? Cleaned them as usual (not with a TAPE CLEANER) and still the same. Cleaned every part that can cause problems and still the same. I also have to mention that 2 months ago all my tapes started to get a faint horizontal blue line (with what looked like fuzzy "noise" in it) in them. About 10 of them that were played. Now I have a bunch of tapes that are bad. Turns out that when I opened up my VCR there was a bunch of gunk on a roller guide? causing this line. I find it strange that this would so easily happen after just 4 months of use. I guess I must play a lot of rented tapes. To bad there isn't a VCR out there that wouldn't pick up this garbage so easily. Auto Head Cleaners are useless I think. BTW you might like to know that the most reliable VCR i've ever had was, err IS a Philco 2 head mono VCR. Purchased it in 1991 and it's STILL going!! Just cleaned the heads for the first time and it still plays perfectly fine! Next best would be an old RCA Home Theater 4 HEAD Hi-FI VCR which they don't make anymore. Best picture quality i've seen in a VCR actually! To bad the poor thing died in just under a year!
Rating: Summary: DON'T BUY PANASONIC PRODUCTS!!! Review: I purchased this Panasonic VCR mainly because of its price. A gear completely broke in under 6 months (with light usage), causing a tapr to be stuck inside the VCR. Panasonic's "1 year warranty" is really no warranty at all because they do NOT cover the cost of labor, and you can't just get a replacement, you have to take it to a service center, which costs more then the VCR itself. I have had other Panasonic products, including cordless phones, and the products and the company are terrible to deal with. A waste of money, and I will no longer purchase Pansonic products.
Rating: Summary: very pleased with this basic vcr Review: I'm surprised at the negative reviews for this VCR. We've had ours for about two months and have had no problems, nor do we find it noisy. On the contrary, we've purchased three VCRs in the past three years and find this is the quietest of all of them. Our purchase is based on a high Consumer Reports ranking and on Panasonic's very good repair history, and so far we're quite happy with this basic (and very inexpensive) machine.
Rating: Summary: A great dissappointment from panasonic... Review: Last weekend I bought this one, It ejects the tape out as soon as it the tape goes in. I tried with all my tapes nothing worked and all these tapes work fine on my 6 year old Symphonic VCP but not with this Hi-Fi VCR. Never buy this one.
Rating: Summary: Good but won't take tapes, makes noise Review: Less than one month, will only take certain tapes when our 8 year old VCR still will take the same tape. Noisy playback. Well thought out design and features for price but lacking in performance.
Rating: Summary: A disappointment for a Panasonic VCR . . . Review: Mediocre play-and-record picture and sound quality, even when compared to my 10-year old, low-end Magnavox Hi-Fi VCR (claimed to contain both Philips and Panasonic components). If it were not for its good price and intended use by my kids, this Panasonic VCR would have gone back to the retail store where I bought it. The Panasonic reputation for quality VCRs is slipping with this model.
Rating: Summary: Not as bad as everyone suggests Review: Noisy? Only on rewind or fast forward. Eats tapes? Hardly. Bad recording? Not from what I can see. This was a better machine than the JVC I've reported on. I couldn't get this machine to automatically program the clock for me, but it did fine with the cable channels and programming the clock is pretty easy. Overall, this is a very easy machine to use. It's my third Panasonic VCR I've owned. In fact, it's the third VCR I've ever owned, my first two being Panasonics as well. My first lasted 20 years, the second 10 years. Hopefully, this one will last as long if not longer than the previous ones. Unlike the JVC and many other VCRs I looked at, this one does NOT require you to hit a TIMER button in order for it to go into standby recording mode. Just program what you want to record (whether it's one time, daily or weekly), hit the power button and your done. You have up to 8 slots to program, which is nice and seems to be the standard these days. My previous Panasonic only had 2 slots, so this is a VAST improvement for me. The remote can program various name brand TVs unlike the JVC remote, which ONLY worked with JVC TVs. Also, I was able to get this machine into my universal remote whereas with the JVC, I couldn't. Picture playback is pretty clear and the colors look fine, whether on a pre-recorded movie or from a recording I did from the TV. No tapes have been eaten and playback from the machine is NOT noisy at all. I guess those other people have VERY sensitive hearing or else, they bought a bad machine. Featurewise, it's pretty standard. My only gripe with this machine (and the reason I gave it 3 stars instead of possibly 4) is that I have experienced a problem that others have stated in that it rejects tapes sometimes. You'll put in a tape sometimes and then it spits it out. After another try or two, it generally takes it. The only thing I can fathom is that the spindles on the machine are not sensing the spindles on the tape correctly, so it assumes it's not seating correctly and spits it out. Either shaking the tape or just trying it another time or two has worked for me and I have experienced this with my other two machines once in awhile, but not to the degree that I experience with this machine. But, that is a MINOR factor for my wife, who is the main user of this machine. Overall, this is a pretty good machine and I've had pretty good experiences with Panasonic in the past, which is why I finally came back to this one.
Rating: Summary: JUNK!! Review: OK, I read that Panasonic was the most reliable VCR,.... From day 1, it won't take about 30-40% of my tapes, it just spits them out. I'm talking new tapes, blank tapes, from the video store, it just doesn't accept some for some reason. When you rewind a tape, it sounds like a 747 is taking off in the next room. I can't believe how loud it is. Stay away from this model.
Rating: Summary: A Great Disappointment from Panasonic Review: Plays tapes very poorly. Keeps changing from light to dark. Going back to RCA or Sony.
Rating: Summary: junk Review: The machine seemed fine for the first few weeks, then got harder and harder to get a tape in. Eventually, it just stopped accepting them at all. Luckily the store took it back. After three VCRs in one year, I am considering the possibility of copying all my tapes to CD and just using DVD.
