Description:

Panasonic's 20-inch, two-head PV-C2023 offers monaural VHS recording and playback alongside FM radio reception and the viewing capabilities of a color television--perfect for kitchens, apartments, dormitories, or for anyone seeking the simplicity of combination entertainment. Auto channel scanning for TV and radio as well as auto clock setting make setup a cinch, while one-month, eight-event programming lets you record the shows you want on a consistent basis. Even better, your camcorder or gaming console plugs right into the set's front panel for hassle-free connections. An earphone jack affords private listening.

The built-in FM radio offers nine-station preset memory. An onscreen display provides confirmation of the selected station, while the auto-scan function lets you skip through available stations until you find the one you want.

An easily overlooked but important feature is the unit's clock functions, consisting of a sleep timer (30, 60, and 90 minutes), a power-on timer, and a wake-up alarm. You can set the unit to turn off or on automatically, so you can doze off or wake to your favorite movie, TV show, FM station, or even to a traditional alarm-clock beep. Use the handy 60-minute timer to monitor various tasks. You can set it in 1-minute intervals up to 10 minutes, in 5-minute intervals from 10 to 40 minutes, and in 10-minute intervals from 40 to 60 minutes. Once set, the timer silently counts down the time and beeps when time has expired.

Commercial skip marks the beginning and end of each commercial break, so you can skip the commercials during recorded programs (it rolls past three minutes of commercials in about 25 seconds). Index search lets you zip right to your predefined index points, while program end search simplifies the process of readying an "in progress" cassette to record addition material. The set's trilingual onscreen display simplifies setup and shows tape status, and V-Chip parental control keeps young eyes off mature content.

A 24-hour power backup maintains settings through most power outages.
