Summary: TV's with built-in VCR's
Review: I received this DVD/VCR combo today. I bought it because the VCR on my tv/vcr combo broke...after I hooked it up and tried playing both dvd's and tapes, i couldn't get the color to look right...the color kept fading in and out and was very dark...I called the 800 number provided on the unit and the rep told me that the unit can't be hooked up to a tv/vcr combo because of copyright issues....so, if you are planning on buying this and using it on a tv/vcr combo....DON'T! it won't work!!!
other than that, it seems to work fine!

Summary: Question, please
Review: I want to know if this unit is satellite compatible for recording. My old unit isn't programmable with the 3 digit satellite stations.

Summary: VCR/DVD destroys my tapes
Review: I wish I had read the other reviews for this machine before purchasing it; it has eaten three of my tapes, as it apparently has many other people's VCR tapes. (I did not buy this from Amazon). I highly recommend that if you are considering buying a VCR/DVD combo, that you NOT buy this model, apparently in this case you get what you pay for....

Summary: Works Great, Simple to use
Review: Ilove this deck. I just pop in the tape, it automaticly turns on the power, plays the tape, and if I fall asleep watching a movie, it automatically rewinds and shuts the power off.

The sound quality on DVD is excellent, playing through my Sony 5 :1 surround sound, both on DVD and Tapes.

I wish the DVD recorded , so I can archive all my tapes to DVD. Best price Ive seen even for lesser brands.Remote can be used for both DVD and VHS by pushing one button to select either format.I called the 800 number to get help on setting up the Tuner and they informed me this Companty makes DVD players and VCRS for Mitsubishi,Hitachi,Phillips and Dennon to name a few.

Summary: VCR & CD problems
Review: Jon,

Many problems with the Sylvania DVD/VCR. DVC860D

DVD
1. Played a commercial music CDs well the first time. The next time it went to the last track and stuck.

2. There is hum on the receiver when the CD is not playing.

3. Played your home made DVD fine several times very well. Can hear the sound over my audio system
important for playing DVDs of opera, for example.

4. There is no way to remember where one last played a scene since it is not in tracks. It is necessary

to fast forward, a lengthy process.

VCR
1. The VCR one touch recording cannot be made to work. On p. 19 we are told to press the the rec/otr repeatedly. On the third press the blank cartridge comes out; at other times it simply does not record.

2. Even if it did work the process I used for OTR does not work. On my 10-year old Samsung I set Channel on the VCR to NPR. Then I go to 3, turn on the VCR and NPR is clear. I touch the Record on the VCR and it works. The TV picture is not degraded.

3. The Samsung accepts VCRPlus codes, not the Sylvania.

The warranty extends only to the original purchaser so I do not know how to get warranty service since you paid for it.

Can I hook up a DVD player and still use my old VCR conveniently?

We will use the machine until we get the return paperwork from you. Sorry for the inconvenience , but after 6 hours to get it "running," I, as you can imagine, was so tense and angry I needed chemical help to sleep and feel no better today because of having to upset you with this letter.

At Stereo Shop you get lifetime service and technical support.

Do you think Amazon will publish this review? Three of the 10 reviews are negative making me trustful.

So sorry to put you to this trouble.

Summary: Bad experience
Review: Less than six months old, the DVD player stopped working. It clicks, grinds, whirls, spins, then shuts down and tries it all again. I've swapped DVD's, used some I recorded, some I bought, and cleaned the heads both manually and with head cleaners. If I had know it was made by Funai, I would have never bought it.

Summary: Hardly even deserves one star
Review: Lets just put it this way, I have owned it for 6 months and nothing still works on this machine. The carriage broke so that it would not eject a vhs tape within a month. Now the DVD side has completely stopped working. Unless you are looking for a disposable machine, look to another brand- this one can't even survive normal use.

Summary: Beware of cheap electronic devices like this
Review: Most people say they have problems with the dvd playback on this
device, but we had just the opposite problem. Our dvds play great, but the vhs player is just terrible. Half of the tapes play like they were bootlegged or something. None of our other vhs players do this; perhaps it's because this isn't built as strongly as a normal vhs player. We have way too many good films on videocassete to just ignore them, or throw away, because this vhs/dvd player can't play them back correctly. Even after taping some shows using the vhs player, the bloody thing still can't play the tape back correctly--it even jumps up and down and the color fades. In conclusion, I'd just like to say if you're considering buying this product, I--and my whole family--would advise you to think twice.

Summary: poorly made, poorly designed
Review: My girlfriend and I purchased this product from a local electronics store in August, 2003 and the laser stopped tracking yesterday. The unit was not dropped or jarred in any way-- the thing just stopped working.
I wasn't terribly happy with it to begin with; the built-in interface isn't very good, so if the remote control gets broken or lost there's no way to access a lot of the machine's features, which is always a red flag to me. The DVD scanning features were also kind of lame. It fast forwards at various speeds, but there's no obvious way to skip chapters. And the layout of the buttons on the remote is counterintuitive.
We bought the unit because it seemed like a cheap way to satisfy our VCR/DVD needs. But once we had the thing out of the box it was obvious that it wasn't very well made. Frankly I was completely unsurprised when the laser started skipping all over and playing back random chapters and pieces of DVDs.
If you just want something that kind of works, go ahead and take your chances with one of these. If it doesn't just stop working, it's adequate for most purposes. But if you're actually excited about DVD technology and like the idea of having a good DVD player, buy something else.
