Summary: Update of my previous two reviews - after 2 years of use
Review: This is an update of my previous review and prior update. I have had this unit now for almost two years. Overall I am still happy with it. However , with time, a few wrinkles have developed.
There are a couple of annoying quirks that we have had to get used to. Occasionally we have a 'scene-Skip' problem playing some DVD's. These are usually the bargain basement type but we have also had the problem with Good quality media, major-release DVD's. And we also see intermittent "artifacts" pop up "momentarily" from time to time.

I dont know if this is a genreal characteristic in this particular product or if its just a bug in my own machine.
Although a bit annoying, in general they do not cause us all that much trouble. If I had to replace this unit, I would probably look for something cheaper. there really weren't many units like this one on the market two years ago, but now they are easy to find and the selection is fairly good.
I would have to say that the $300.00 we paid for it in 2001 is just too much to pay in 2003 - in fact the price has been lowered almost $100.00 since that time, but even $200.00 is a bit much with all the competition in the $150-$200.00 range.
Overall a good unit but a little overpriced for the times.

Reliability may be a factor here, If the thing is still functioning well ,in two or three years, I would definitely have to say it was worth the extra $$ if that translated into the extended use.

Summary: Good buy
Review: This is the first DVD player i've owned, though I've had others around, so I can make some sort of comparison. First, the DVD and VCR in one unit is extremely convenient and space saving. And the design of the unit is attaractive. I've had no troubles with either the VCR or the DVD. There are a couple little irritations with it, but then all units seem to have one or two needed improvements. An example is that there isn't a separate button for skip and search. You have to hold the skip button down for a few seconds to begin to search through you dvd. Other dvd players i've seen have a separate button for each. And it is a little pricey, but it does the job and it does it well.

Summary: Perfect for average user
Review: This player is perfect for the average user (as I said in the title). It combines a good ... DVD player with a good VCR ..., saving space and electrical cord confusion.

DVDs play perfectly, exactly the way they are supposed to, without skipping or anything. While there are no special frills or anything, it does exactly what any normal person wants out of a DVD player; plays DVDs without skipping or screwing up. In addition, the DVD player can play audio CDs, including ones with MP3 files on them. This means you can listen to 10 straight hours of music without pushing a button, as long as you also have a CD burner.

The VCR part is great (or at least much better than the 12 year old VCR we had previously). It has 4 tracks in it, which means when you pause it, you dont get those little white lines all over the place. Even better, you can record from a DVD onto a VCR (but not vice versa) provided the DVD isn't safe protected.

As far as ease of use goes, I only had one problem with the entire thing. When you first connect it, it tries to auto-detect the time and what channels you have. For some reason, it couldn't find my antenna, which forced me to tell it what the time was, as well as what the channels were, manually (adding about 2 more minutes to the 5 minute procedure of setting this thing up).

I don't have tons of experience with DVD players, so I can't say this is the best DVD player on the market. I would be lying, because I have nothing to compare it to. However, it fits the average user's needs perfectly. If you want like ultra amazing picture that you need to zoom in 8x to notice, you might want to shell out that extra $... for one of the newer ones. But for now, this is perfect.

Summary: Stay Away
Review: This product has a manufacturing fault that has caused a large number of consumer problems. When playing DVD's the unit will freeze and the picture will break into multiple pixels. Research this online as I have and do not buy this product. I own one and have been trying to get satisfaction from Samsung.

Summary: A competent but slightly incomplete product
Review: This product has a very good picture and has quite a few features. The 16 slots for setting up scheduled recording comes in very handy for those of us that like to record a variety of shows during the week for later viewning. The remote control is somewhat confusing and will take a little getting used to. The ability to control a cable box would have made this an overall very good and complete product.

Summary: satisfied
Review: This product has some good features. It was much easier to program for future recordings than either of the two Sonys or the Toshiba we have owned. I have to remove DVD's before using other features and have had to turn everything off and back on before my tv would work properly after I took out the DVD. I love the excellent quality of the DVD's but I've never had another player to compare. The VCR is great at regular speed but less so when it's put at 6 hr recording. I think it's as good a quality as the other more expensive VCR's we have owned.

Summary: Great product.
Review: Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have nothing but praise for this Samsung DVD/VCR combo. The menus have never locked up on me and are easy to use. The remote takes a few minutes to get used to but it is a small price to pay for the excellent space saving qualities of this unit. The VCR runs quite well with some nice features to go with it. Overall a very nice unit.

Summary: Disappointed in Samsung
Review: Want to watch a movie but don't have time to watch it all at once? Don't buy a Samsung DVD player unless you don't mind leaving the unit on all the time! Turning this player off and back on starts the disc back up at the beginning, forcing you to relocate your spot in the movie.

Summary: Not long lasting.
Review: We purchased our combo about 1 year ago. The price was outstanding being that you get both the dvd and vcr. Well, it now won't play the dvd's. The company has offered to fix it for a "nice" fee, which turned out to be more than we paid. So needless to so we will now have a combo piece and a seperate DVD player. Not so convienant anymore.
