Getting started with the DVT87N is simple. The VCR will automatically program all available TV channels into memory with one menu command. The onscreen menu allows you to refine the setup by setting recording preferences and preferred channels. The multilingual menu lets you control the DVT87N in your choice of English, French, and Spanish. The DVT87N records in two modes: standard play (SP) for higher-quality recording and extended play (EP) for recording more programs on one tape. In EP mode, the DVT87N can record up to 8 hours of programming on one video cassette. The DVT87N allows you to review your videotapes in a number of ways. In addition to both high-speed and slow-motion modes for fast-forward and reverse searches, a one-touch commercial skip option allows you to quickly advance up to five minutes on the tape and there's an index-based search. The digital autotracking feature adjusts the picture quality automatically to reduce static, shaky pictures, and other onscreen distractions. You can also adjust tracking manually with the remote. The DVT87N includes a number of automated features, including autoplay when you insert a cassette in the VCR. Once the end of the tape is reached, the DVT87N will rewind the tape for you. An autorecord function lets you tape programs with one touch, and a timer feature lets you schedule recording for up to 8 shows (including daily and weekly recurring programs) in advance. For households with small children, the child-lock feature can disable all of the buttons on both the VCR and the remote control. Timer recordings will still operate while the child lock is on, ensuring that you'll never miss a show due to the wrong button getting pushed by little hands.
