Rating: Summary: A Horrible Example Review: Walter Matthau's character in this film was despicable. He was an alcoholic and a bum, an abusive aging ex-ball-player with an ex-family who swore too much, drank and smoked all the time and appeared to be semi-miserable -- the sort of influence that every parent hates and fears.Put another way, he was ABSOLUTELY GREAT, and I wish to heck I'd been friends with a dude like that when I was a young baseball-playing kid!!
Rating: Summary: America at its best Review: Words are not powerful enough to describe the emotion contained within this film. A good look at late 1970's California. Lupas catching the fly ball at the end was the greatest. For any coaches or sports enthusiast out there, this film is a must see. Watch it closeley please and don't reduce it to a mere comedey.
