Description:
Eight of the most popular stars of extreme sports are profiled in Extreme Heroes, in which the athletes appear on camera to talk about each other. The interview segments are not terribly surprising, and it seems that just about everyone is eventually described as a "gnarly dude" by one of the other, well, gnarly dudes. The featured performers come from the realms of surfing, snowboarding, downhill skating, and bmx biking, and they all talk about what first drew them to their particular sport, and how they found a way to do it professionally. At times they've competed against each other, and there's some talk about friendships formed on the extreme sports circuit as well as rivalries that have developed. Film footage, shot at professional competitions and also in backyards and out on the street, provides a lively overview of what's happening in the world of extreme sports. Some particularly entertaining bits show how the various sports have melded together. For instance, kids surfing on California beaches have been influenced by skateboarders' gravity-defying tricks. As downhill skater and totally gnarly dude Biker Sherlock explains, "You can walk down the beach now and all the kids are poppin' air." Other featured performers include Danny Way, Laird Hamilton, Dave Mirra, T.J. Lavin, Brian Keaulana, Fuzzy Hall, and Christian Fletcher. --Robert J. McNamara
