Rating: Summary: Tivo is awsome Review: Changed the way I watch TV. Pausing live TV is the tip of the iceberg. I bought it thinking I would end up returning it but found I can't live without it. I would compare it to going from cassette to CD. It records every show I like at the touch of a button and even records all future episodes even if the networks change the day or time it's on. It lists everything recorded on one screen, you select which recording to watch and it starts playing your selection. When you're done with it, delete it. I never miss an episode of any show anymore and never have to sit through commercials. Phone rings or someone starts talking, no problem, hit pause and wait 'til they shut up. If you're thinking about upgrading your satellite receiver to Dolby Digital, kill two birds with one stone and buy this unit....
Rating: Summary: It doesn't Get any better than this!!!!!! Review: I held out for the directivo, and boy am a I happy now that I have one! It doesn't matter who you are or what you do. You need one of these: 1. If you have children and have run into the "But why isn't Arthur on now?" and haven't been able to relate networking schedules to you 3 year old. Problem Solved, Arthur, Barney, Sesame Street, Blues Clues, etc, etc, etc are always on and easy to find. 2. If you work late and constantly miss your Prime Time shows, no problem they are all on all the time now. 3. Missed that funny line while watching the Presidential debate...No problem, just rewind. 4. Keep missing the Desert Mummies of Peru on Discovery, don't worry about it TIVO knows when its on and that you want to see it. It is the most amazing thing that has ever happened to my family, it truly is a tivolution
Rating: Summary: Great For Whole Family Review: This is truly magical, simple to use technology that gains the owner, not the networks, control over WHEN favorite shows are viewed. The integration with DirecTV makes the TIVO concept even better. If you enjoy TV, this device will make you wonder how you ever got along without it.
Rating: Summary: 2 stars and 2 thumbs down Review: Lets face it, if I buy a unit with 2 tuners, I expect them to both work. They say that there will be a free software upgrade to get the other one to work, but they do not say when...can you say "sucker"?The UltimateTV version will have 2 working tuners and also internet access. That's what I'm going with.
Rating: Summary: This product rocks! Review: I've been using a 30 hour TiVo or over a year now, and could not imagine living without it. This new combo box eliminates the need for a seperate DirecTV receiver since it has one built in and the TiVo software is now up to version 2.0 which adds new features and is rock solid. The picture quality is awesome and the setup was a breeze -- 5 minutes tops (they got rid of the long setup phone calls)! TiVo made a great product better!
Rating: Summary: Best Combination Ever!!! Review: You have to get this product! It is a high end DIRECTV system with Dolby Digitial AC3 optical and best of all TiVo! Now you can watch all of your DIRECTV channels and record programs that you never even knew were on. It has the TiVo 2.0 software, you know have access to features like "Wishlists" and you can now add additional time or start early on a recording so you won't miss that overtime finish. This is a Must Have!!!!
Rating: Summary: The perfect TiVo Review: I was fortunate to get one of the first of these boxes. Compared to the stand alone TiVo, setup is a breeze. It takes about 20 minutes. The stand-alone takes 3-5 hours. Picture quality is perfect since the integrated receiver records the bitstream directly off the satellite instead of it being decoded by a separate receiver and re-encoded by TiVo. The DSR6000R also is the first TiVo to ship with the 2.0 software, which has many new features, such as Season Pass manager, . This unit also features two DirecTV tuners, which will allow you to watch 1 channel while recording another, when the feature is enabled. This unit also allows you to choose from the DirecTV guide or the TiVo guide, whichever you prefer. If you've been waiting, now is the time to jump in. This is the best TiVo unit yet.
Rating: Summary: The Ultimate TV Accessory - Update Review: My Jan.7 comments (below) still valid - like unit more the more I use it!! Most criticisms posted seem to boil down to (1)"Unit does not record cable or off-the-air broadcasts:" true, but this is offset by benefits of integrated box; you will probably find you watch non-satellite broadcasts less and less, and if they must be recorded a VCR will still do the job! (2) Bitching about limitations of warranty and cost of repairs: customer bought unit despite clearly stated warranty provisions, which are identical to those for 95% of TVs, VCRs, and similar electronic products (90 days labor; 1 yr. parts) ... Only problem I've had so far is occasional failure of daily phone calls to TiVo. Appears to have been fixed by inserting ",#034" as a dialing prefix, which I understand slows the modem down and helps overcome noisy telephone lines ... P.S. Rumor has it that Philips, Sony, and Hughes are stopping production of these units due to disappointing sales. DirecTV will produce a box under their brand label with some mostly useless new "features"; price will probably be considerably higher. If I didn't already have one, I would hurry to snap up one of the current units at the prevailing fire sale prices!! Finally, again, be sure to SHOP AROUND for the best price before you buy!!
Rating: Summary: DirectTiVo is Crippled - Not fully enabled Review: I've had 6 Tivos but up until now, they have all been freestanding (TiVo1 and TiVo2) units. I switched to satellite about a year ago and was thrilled to find that DirecTV was offering Tivos.....Until I brought mine home. What they DON'T tell you is that DirecTV TiVo is designed and built for DirecTV only. It DOES NOT record cable or over the air broadcasts, it DOES NOT support networking (a fantastic feature for getting your schedule via Internet and sharing shows between multiple TiVos in a household) and, because it doesn't support networking, it also doesn't support the Home Media Option (which allows you to stream audio and images from your PC to your TiVo). It also doesn't support web based scheduling requests or the soon to be released TiVo-to-Go. These are all features that are central to the TiVo culture and I'm amazed that DirecTV has crippled their version of the TiVo service. I'd happily pay out the few bucks a month to add a DirecTV unit to my TiVo subscription, but DirecTV doesn't allow for it.
The long and short of it is that this is not a fully enabled TiVo and there isn't much you can do about it. If you just want a PVR with a nice interface, this is probably it. But if you want TiVO, as in ALL of TiVo, then skip these direcTV units, buy a regular TiVo and hook it up to you current satellite receiver. Not only can you record over-the-air or cable this way, but you get every one of the TiVo functions that the folks at TiVo have thoughtfully built into thier units.
Rating: Summary: When they work, they're great! Review: Like many of the other reviewers, I love the Tivo DVR's, the functionality is fantastic. However, I have owned two DSR6000R machines for about 18 months and have had reliability problems with both. One has just failed, it resets itself every 10 minutes or so. The second one has never worked satisfactorily and been replaced under warranty by Philips with a refurbished machine which loops endlessly through the power up cycle. When they work they are really great, but I really question the reliability of these Philips machines based on my experience and suggest you look at other models. Hope you have better luck than I have had.
