Summary: TiVo is great; Sony is a rip off
Review: My Sony SRV2000 worked fine for six months. First month into the lifetime subscription the Sony unit died. TiVo is willing to work things out with me w/r/t my product lifetime subscription. Sony on the other hand has offered to let ME PAY to repair the unit, only $92/hour for labor plus shipping. Sony calls this "warranty service." I can buy a competitor's product for less than the Sony service bill. The TiVo service is great.
Don't buy Sony's products: they're overpriced and Sony doesn't stand behind them.

Summary: TiVo's great! The Recorder is not...
Review: Let me say TiVo Service itself is great, but this recorder is giving me problems. I've had it just over 6 months now, and lately I often find myself using the "System Reset" option. I can't count how many times the sound has sporadically cut-out or how often the message "TiVo can't display Live TV" has popped up. Every time this happens, the shows it taped are basically worthless: Either the first few seconds were recorded or the entire program was recorded w/out sound. It worked great for the first 5.5 months, but it doesn't look like this problem is going away. I'll have to do some yelling to the people at Sony. Look into a less expensive, better quality machine... Does YAMAHA makes one of these bad boys?

Summary: Tivo Great /Sony service not so
Review: I finally splurged on a Tivo with a $100 rebate as bait. I had a totally blissful one month with Tivo. Then suddenly the sound didn't work. Then sound off and on and full of static when on. I spent quite a while on the phone with tech support and they had me go through every possible connection and then the ultimate clear and reset the unit losing everything I recorded.
Finally the sony agent agreed my unit was defective. Now comes the really hard part. You can't just take it back to the store you bought it from you have to mail it back to Sony as Sony has closed all the service centers in my area.
I am waiting and hoping to have it back soon.

Summary: Can't live without our Sony Tivo!
Review: Thanks to all who had posted reviews on amazon previously and to amazon's editorial reviews between the differing brands and companies for digital video recording. As a result of this information, I bought the SONY. My husband initally had trouble hooking it up properly, (though he's not very electronicall gifted,) I am completely addicted and rarely watch shows in real time with commercial interruption. I have it record all my favorites which I watch while recording shows I want to see. I then watch them upon completion fast forwarding through the commercials. I can search for programs I like and am constantly jockeying with my 9 year old son whose show ZOIDS is on twice daily, which we set to record with a season pass. I absolutely love this and don't know what we did without it. Now if I could just get it connected to record from the DVR to the VCR so my son could have his zoid shows to watch upstairs, I'd be in good shape. I considered buying another one, but am waiting for sony to manufacture one where I can watch one program while recording another when they're on at the same time, or recording two at once. You won't be sorry!

Summary: Never miss an episode again
Review: Tivo has changed the way I watch TV - I will never miss an episode of the West Wing again (or Six Feet Under, or South Park, etc . . .) It walks you thru the set-up and the show summaries give you all of the information you ever need. Now that I have it, I can't even imagine how I lived without it.

Summary: Whats a vcr???
Review: ever since I purchased my tivo a little less than a year ago, i have never used my vcr again...its great...you never have to be home to watch a "live" show...i never watch live shows...i would rather have the tivo tape a live show while i watch a taped show, this way i can fast forward the commericals.... it seems like alot of money at first..but if you live an active life, every penny is worth it.... i wouldn't trade it for anything..

programs to record forever, set up wishlists by actor or show. Pause live TV, rewind it, instant replay. This really puts a new spin on watching TV. You won't go wrong. Be aware however it has a monthly fee.

Review: this product will change your life it has ours we no longer watch tv when the networks want us to we watch tv when we want to i chose the sony model because all of my other components are sony and because the sony model allows you to dump recorded shows off to tape on your sony vcr the remote control is also a learning remote control so you can program 4 of the buttons to do whatever you would like for them to do -[...] if you want more information you will have to do your own investigating this is a great product and i am tivo's biggest fan the 30 hour model provides us with more than enough programming but if you want you can upgrade this unit or simply purchase a 60 hour unit cheers

Summary: Don't listen to the negatives - Tivo and Sony ROCK!!!
Review: Before I purchased my SVR-2000 I read every single review that I could find on this model of TIVO.I actually got a little scared that the remote control would be this terribly awkward thing that I would hate. The remote is designed to be held from the bottom. Someone said that the buttons you use most often are on the top. I don't know what buttons they're using, but this remote feels perfect to me. I bought this model because I have never had any trouble with a Sony product. So far it has totally lived up to its name. Tivo is incredible. You've probably heard this a million times by now, but I will never go back to watching TV the old way again. Pausing TV is awesome. I have used it so many times. Its also awesome to be able to just hit your now playing list and have program after sweet program to watch. One really awesome thing that people neglect to mention is that you can watch a program on your recorded list whil TIVO is recording another show or that same show. I came in about an hour late last week and I was recording the Wizards game. I started watching it from the beginning and after fast forwarding through all the commercials and half time I came within a few minutes of finishing watching the game at the same time it actually ended. Don't listen to any of the nay sayers Sony and TIVO are totally awesome. Your life will change!!!
