Summary: Great product - deceptive promotion
Review: According to a 15-year audio install company, I was the 1st person to buy and install a Tivo in MN. I love the product. You will find you use it a lot more than you anticipate. That said beware of the liftime 1 time service fee verbage. Note it says{PRODUCT} lifetime. That means if you pay $249 ( like I did a few years back) and upgrade to a new box, ( I use it so much I upgraded to a 80 hour box) Your old lifetime subscription goes into the garbage with you old box. Yep - they want you to buy a new one with each new box you buy. That is pure BULL$H!+ in my view everyone should email them and tell them so. Also note that you can record it low res. down and dirty ( to save recording space) or, med high or super high quality. The hour recording they show is for the tacky down and dirty mode which you will use less and less the longer you use the unit. If you have a plasma TV or any kind of quality system, you'll want to record for top quality. Thus, don't make the mistake I did and buy a lower capacity hour unit thinking you'll never record more than what they advertise it at. . I found you need to take that hour time they advertise on the box and divide it by 4 to get the real capacity of your machine. Thus the 80 hour machine will allow you to record 20 hours in high quality playback before it asks you to start deleting previous recording requests. Note that as your space fills up the unit will start asking you to delete scheduled recordings to make room for any new additions you want to ad. I think you'll agree that this defeats the purpose of having a TIVO in the 1st place. Thus, buy the max machine (currently the 80 hour unit) if you buy one at all. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. IN conclusion, this unit is the coolest and most innovative invention in years. If you buy one you'll use if more than any electronics device you probably own. It's worth every dime and I never had 1 problem with my original machine in over 3 years. One last note. All others always compare themselves to Tivo and not vice versa. Think about it.. don't invest in a want-a-bee. This machine is dependable, has tons of cool features and is easier to use than heating up your morning coffee in the microwave.

Summary: Its as if you were getting the internet for the first time.
Review: WOW this has made my TV viewing much better.

When I sit down at the television I now have dozens of shows patiently waiting for me to view them. I dont sit and surf hoping to be entertained.

Having two kids the ability to PAUSE and REWIND live television is UNREAL.

The season pass may be the best feature on the unit, never think about missing your favorite show ever again.

This may be the best invention since the home computer, I just have one complaint and that is TIVO itself doing a HORRIBLE job of self promotion. I consider myself a geek and I never really looked at this technology until a friend of mine sold me on it. After showing it to me it was CLEAR this is a MUST HAVE.

If you are sitting on the fence on this product JUMP OFF NOW as you will thank me for it.

Summary: Excellent product. Will change your lifestyle.
Review: I had wanted TiVo for years, but was never willing to pay the monthly service and figured there would be many competitors by now. I finally broke down and am very happy that I did. It has changed our life considerably within the first two weeks we have had it. We now always have a number of shows available for our young children to watch (although that sometimes means watching Dora the Explorer 5 times a day) and can watch our shows whenever our children our quiet (which is rarely during prime time hours). I highly recommend this product to anyone. Setup is easy (takes about 30 minutes) and programming TiVo to get your favorite shows is also extremely easy.

Summary: CREDIT CARD REQUIRED
Review: Just getting started with my new Christmas present. Based on overall reviews I expect I would rate TiVo higher if not for one problem. You need a credit card to activate the service, unless you want to take a chance and send them a certified check for $250 to get their 'lifetime' service.

This is a real problem for those who do not have, or choose not to use, credit cards. Unfortunately, you will not find this caveat anywhere on their website or in their literature. They seem to hide this tidbit so that you only find out when you go to activate the service.

Does this say anything about their customer service???

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: This technology is simply amazing. When I first heard my friends rave about it, I never really bought into the whole DVR craze. I was wrong not have considered it then.

I got this unit as a gift and admittedly wouldn't have made the purchase on my own. After all, at $299 + the service fee (either one time $250 or a monthly fee of about $14), it is not a cheap item to own. Which is why it makes a great gift.

Knowing what I know now, I would have shelled out the cash myself. The unit and the technology is fantastic. I honestly believe the jump from VCR to TIVO is greater than the jump from VHS to DVD in terms of impact to the owner's lifestyle.

TIVO let's you do so many things and makes managing your TV watching a breeze. I hihgly recommend it for people who don't have the ability to sit down at prime-time for enjoyable entertainment. The nicest thing about it is that you when you actually have time to watch TV, you can look in your TIVO in-box (called "now playing on tivo") and you'll have a whole assortment of TV shows to pick from.

No more flipping around to find something to watch. We don't even watch live TV anymore because there is more than enough on TIVO to make us happy.

Buy this for a friend, loved one, or yourself. It is the coolest gift they'll get.

Summary: A must have product! (Trust me... you'll see!)
Review: I bought a Tivo because I saw one at a friends house and thought it looked convenient. My fiance was somewhat against having yet another piece of electronics in our already packed entertainment center, but now it's her favorite device in the house! Seriously - once you get Tivo, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it! Miss something important in your favorite show because a telemarketer called? No problem, just rewind live TV... Tivo always has a half hour buffer of what you're watching.

The Season's Pass feature is by far the best ability of the Tivo. Simply find your favorite shows using the VERY simple to use menu, and say "Get a season's pass." The Tivo will then record every episode for you! (Or, you can choose from advanced options like 'Only record new episodes'). No more remembering to program the VCR... Tivo is super smart, and will always have all your favorite show just waiting for you. Plus - you save time by not wathcing those little 'intermissions' during your show ;) Tivo has 3 levels of fast forward on it's really easy to use remote control. Levels 2 and 3 are FAST. Plus, the tivo is so smart that when you're on level two or three fast forward, and you notice that yo're now fast forwarding into your show again (past the commercial) when you press 'Play' to stop the fast forward, the Tivo automatically (and instantly) rewinds a few seconds so that you don't miss anything!

Plus, for all you fellow geeks out there, you can find instructions all over the web for doing things like adding new, larger hard drives, ethernet cards, etc. (I've added a 60GB upgrade, and an ethernet card - easy :) I could talk for Days about the benifits of Tivo, but I'll stop here. Buy it! :)

Summary: Tivo changed my life
Review: We bought our TiVo last year and we love it!! We are no longer slaves to TV programming, we never miss a show and it's really easy to use. You can't imagine how often I rewind a segment and watch it over again in case I miss a word or caption. You will never hassle with taping via a VCR again, no more hunting for a blank tape. I can't praise this product enough!! We're buying a TiVo for my husband's parents who can't handle a VCR, so that should tell you the skill level - it's easy. TiVo really comes in handy when there's nothing on to watch - you just check your list of shows saved and go from there. We like the "season pass" option to tape our regular shows we never want to miss. This is one electronic item you will never have buyer's remorse about. Go ahead, buy the unlimited service contract. It's worth it. And 60 hours is plenty - we're good about cleaning out the space once we've watched something. If you get a Sony machine, you can ONLY download to a Sony VCR if you want to save something on tape. That was an unpleasant surprise for us.

Summary: I agree - awesome
Review: Everything the other reviews says is true - this product is absolutely wonderful. I won't repeat the numerous highlights, but instead want to bring up one additional plus and also state a very minor minus.

First the plus - the onscreen guide is very comprehensive. So much so that I no longer need my TV Guide subscription (which at anywhere from $$$for a year is pricey). The guide gives excellent detail about each program and is easy to navigate, so no need to kill a tree.

The minor minus - in the various menus, you will have anywhere from 5 to 9 choices, which you navigate by using the up and down arrows on the remote control. The problem is you can't arrow down to the bottom of a menu and then with one additional "down arrow" click, jump to the top of the menu. You instead have to switch to the "up arrow" and hit it numerous times to get to the top. It's a minor hassle, but this design aspect could be improved.

Other than that, I have no complaints about this product and can say I'm truly happy with my Tivo!

Summary: New Series2 TiVo = AWESOME!
Review: I have owned a series 1 TiVo for almost 3 years now and I LOVE it. I just purchased the new 80 hour Series2 TiVo and I LOVE it even more. It's faster and I can use my broadband with it via the USB ports. It's not officially supported yet but it still works great! It's so much faster and I really don't know why a couple people are saying it's loud because I can't hear it at ALL! I love this new TiVo and I know with the new features coming out next year it's gonna be even more awesome!!
