Description:
The World Wrestling Federation's King of the Ring production is an annual pay-per-view extravaganza, and this summer 2000 edition features a one-night tournament, a few bizarre matches (such as one weird tussle between two aging wrestlers, both of them male, attired in evening gowns), and a six-man tag team match to decide the WWF championship. As would be expected, there are also plenty of interviews with the wrestlers, and some backstage soap opera action. The crowd at Boston's Fleet Center joyously boos its lungs out when egged on by heels like Kurt Angle, a muscle-bound Eddie Haskell who can't let anyone forget he won a real Olympic gold medal. What's billed as a "Handicap Table Dumpster Match" involving the Dudley Boyz features the villainous brothers being beaten senseless with metal folding chairs and stuffed into a Dumpster filled with garbage. But that hardly ends things. "Those Damned Dudleyz" soon escape their purgatory in the Dumpster and deliver nasty chair shots of their own to their stupefied opponents. The big match that concludes the three-hour event involves Triple H, the Undertaker, the Rock, Kane, and two members of the McMahon family, Shane and Vince, and has plenty of plot twists, betrayals, and even some interludes of wrestling before one man finally stands supreme. --Robert J. McNamara
