Review: This movie is absolutely a must have! Yes, I know I say that about everything I've reviewed so far, but I don't say it if I don't mean it! This shows the side of wrestling we don't always see. It helps us see the men and women behind the characters. It is refreshing to see that these guys are all really friends in real life. Wrestling fans and non-wrestling fans will both enjoy this video. It looks at the Big Three before they became one and even gives light to the less well known minor leagues. Definite must have if you hope to become a wrestler. Have a nice day!

Summary: Sometimes the best films come in the most unlikely packages!
Review: Who would have thought that a documentary on pro wrestling would have depth and emotion, laughter and drama, and be downright touching at times?! This has everything that makes a great documentary. It is a fascinating look into the heroes and losers of the pro wrestling world.You might be surprised at the passion these guys have for wrestling. For some of them, it is an honest love for the sport that drives them to face negligible (if any) paychecks, bodily injury, and public humiliation. For others, it is pure ego, which provides for some of the funniest and saddest moments. This is a fabulously put together film - right down to the great score by Nathan Barr. All in all, a delightful surprise of a film!

Summary: An Absolutely Fabulous Movie For Wrestling Fans!
Review: I recommend this to all people who are even mildly interested in wrestling. This movie is incredible. It mostly follows the lives of 3 men; Mick Foley (Mankind, Cactus Jack and Dude Love), Terry "The Funker" Funk, and Jake "The Snake" Roberts. In a way, these men all represent one time period of wrestling. Jake is kind of the past of wrestling, as his heyday was mostly during the hulkamania (thank god that is over!) days of the 80's. Terry Funk is wrestlings present, and I guess Mick is supposed to be the futue of wrestling. Although, he's retired now, so that was kind of a sorry choice. But thinking about it, the movie also had quite a bit on Mike Modest, who is definetly part of the future of wrestling (along with the amazing "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels, one guy that you should all watch for in the next couple of years), so maybe Mick and Terry were both supposed to be the present. Well anyways, along with those couple big things, they also talk a small bit about the SUPER wrestling company know as World Wrestling federation Entertainment (WWFE) and other stuff. So yeah this movie is definetly recommended. It also works really well if you fall into a situation where someone is saying that wrestling is completely fake as hell, and you need something to show them very fast. I came across this situation once, before. Even after showing the stupid kid the infamous "Hell In a Cell" match between Foley and Mark Calloway (The UNDERTAKER!), he still didn't believe me, but I showed him this, and there ya have it. He'll never insult wrestling again! So BUY this DVD!

Summary: A revealing look at pro wrestling
Review: Barry Blaustein's documentary "Beyond The Mat" gave everyone a look into the world of pro wrestling. I liked the fact that it showed not just the WWF, but it gave everyone a look at Paul Heyman's ECW organization and at smaller independent federations. Also,I liked how it showed examples of differen wrestlers-from the legends (Terry Funk), to those fallen from grace (Jake Roberts). I highly recommend this. It is the definate wrestling documentary.

Review: A very moving documentary on the subject of wrestling. Actually a very good one to watch ESPICALLY for the non-wrestling fan. I am a huge fan and almost cried during the Jake "The Snake" segments. Overall make sure you see it one way or another.

Summary: A Wrestling Documentary No Wrestling Fan Should Do Without
Review: As a true wrestling fan, I was fascinated by this documentary. Director Barry Blaustein created a masterful documentary depicting the lives of pro wrestlers. This documentary examines the behind-the-scenes of the life of a pro wrestler, from the promotion that they work for to their personal lives. It examines the relationship between the promoter & the wrestlers that work for them. They talk about the gimmicks that the promoters & wrestlers use to get the fans to notice them. From the WWF, ECW, & to various small indeppendent promotions & a wrestling school, all the steps that a pro wrestler had to take to make it to the big time is covered here. BEYOND THE MAT also covers the personal lives of various wrestlers in this video such as Mick Foley (Mankind, Cactus Jack, Dude Love), Terry Funk, Jake Roberts, The Rock, among others). The movie shares their triumphs, tragedies, hopes, and dreams. The movie shows the wrestlers as HUMAN BEINGS behind the curtain. They are no different from regular people. They are just working on a platform that they love, entertaining the fans & putting on a great show. Sometimes they go to extremes for their craft. This video is a must have for all true wrestling fans. I highly recommend this video.

Summary: "It's supposed to be fun",
Review: is how the description starts on the back of the box, this is anything but fun. Ok that's probably a bit harsh, but for nearly two hours you've got to listen to a guy's voice that gets on your nerves. It's like having a feature commentary over the top of what could be an interesting documentary, in the end you just lose interest. Taking nothing away from Barry W. Blaustein, as I am a big fan of Wrestling, this does fill in some of the blanks, as it were, about the more violent act you see in wrestling today, but couldn't he have focused on some newer wrestlers as well. I may not be as up to scratch with wrestling as some people but, I'd never heard of Terry Funk until I saw this. Extra's wise there's not much to get excited about, I'm not a fan of commentaries (which could be why I didn't like the film itself), The usual trailer, this shows you all the best bits, so there's no need to watch the feature now. Production notes and crew profile, items to just fill in empty space with no thought. A difficult subject to cover and the Director's cut doesn't make it easy to watch. Watch it once, just so you can say you have.

Review: Beyond the Mat goes beyond the rep of Pro wrestling being fake.It shows you the seldom seen truth of what realy happens in thebuisines. While it goes farther then any other movie on pro wrestling,it left out certin aspects that I feel would have strenthened themovie. It was a very well thought through movie and it opened theeyes of the people who call it fake. If anyone can watch the mankindVS the rock scene and call it fake, they are lost in their own worldof dilusions and insecurities. This was a very good movie, wich showsyou not only what happens in the ring, but more importantly, whathappens out sid the ring.

Review: More the likey this documentary is not what you think its about. On the cover it says that its the documentary that Vince does not want you to see. Why? So we can't find out that Jake the Snake is a loser now!? Anyway, I suggest that you rent this before you decide to buy this.

Summary: Not Just For fans
Review: This documentary was well done. It gives us the audience a true look inside of the world of wrestling. Choreographed? yes, dramatic? yes but highly entertaining. Rarely do we stop and think, the costs of this entertainment. We never think about the person we see on T.V., its all an act, what are they really like. We see the other side of wrestling stars past and present. A true look inside the lives of Mick Foley, Jake "The Snake Roberts" and Terry Funk. What is it like to be in the ring? What is it like outisde the ring? The pain, the struggles of real life. Truly a great film on life itself, and explores the question of "Why are we so entertained by violence?" If your not a wrestling fan, this is still a movie we can all aprreciate.
