Summary: HOW TO SKIP THE SENIC "stuff"
Review: As many people have complaints about this dvd how during the preformances the picture cuts off into boring senic "stuff" taking away formt he preformances, and the senic stuff between songs, go to the special features menu and click just the music. Thus it only plays the preformances in their entirety, no cutting off into other things. Makes the dvd much more owrthwhile for the deftones fan.

The preformances though are average for the tones as the electric preformances are to a crowd of like 20 people so there is no big mosh going on and sometimes the songs are a mix of the tones playing unplugged then it goes into the electric stuff like it was the same preformance.

Anyway i like this dvd, but only when the senic stuff is not there. SO take my advice and click just the music in the special fetures menu on the start up menu.

Summary: Excellent
Review: Deftones - Live in Hawaii was completely beyond my expectations.

The acoustic versions of Knife Party, The Boy's republic, Digital Bath and Change (in the house of flies) are amazing.
Most fans are expecting most of the dvd to be "hard" and have a few soft segments. But it has enough metal and acoustics to make the DVD perfect for the open-minded fan.
Music in High Places shows a more down to earth side of the guys that you probably wouldn't be able to see else where.

I suggest purchasing this if you are a fan of Deftones or just a music fan in general.

Summary: The acoustic songs make this dvd
Review: First of all I should say I'm am a huge Deftones fan. I think of them as one of the more talented groups who aren't afraid of trying new things and exploring thier own versatility. I also love Hearing songs stripped down for an acoustic performance.

I have to agree with others that his voice is off during the stage performances. My friend and I had a huge laugh during Change(in the house of flies). It almost seems like his jaw is going to be dislocated.

There are definitely some great parts on this dvd and If you're a fan and you're considering this puchase after reading the reviews then for god's sake man, buy it.

Review: I thought that it was great when they showed the guys hanging out enjoying Hawaii, but I wasn't too thrilled with their live preformance on stage. I know Chino was having some trouble with his throat at the time so when we tried to scream on stage it wasn't very pretty. When they were preforming the accoustic version of their songs I thought it was great. It was just that one thing that threw them off. They can play much better than that, but you can't expect them to play perfect all the time. I don't know everything that is on the dvd because I saw it on mtv sometime last year, so they might have some neat things on the dvd.

Summary: save your money for the upcoming album.
Review: I'm a huge fan, but this dvd was a huge dissapointment. The accoustic performance are sloppy and the sound is weak. The electric cuts are also rough, but I'd blame this on the tiny crowd they are playing for. So, save your money for their new cd and watch pbs for scenic shot of Hwaii.

Summary: Mixed bag
Review: If you are a musician, avoid this dvd.The band as a collective are loose, held together (barely) by some great drumming (cunningham is the only member on form).Vocals are dodgy ie out of tune, screams weak-what was up with chinos voice?Guitars had cringing moments-again,out of tune and/or out of time.Bass dropped the ball a number of times, had some bung notes.Generally NOT what youd expect from a professional band that plays all over the world. The acoustic pieces may as well have been performed/recorded in my lounge-the sound quality is terrible and the beautiful Hawaiian settings only serve to juxtapose this...it had potential...Redeeming moments:all the amplified songs EXCEPT the sections that are spliced into the acoustic numbers:Feiticeira is brilliant,if only because the other material sounds so bad:err, thats it.1 star outta 5.
Okay, time to sound elitist. The only person who'd like this dvd is most likely to be a non-musician Deftones fan,and a hardcore Deftones fan at that.I say this only because they are less likely to cringe at the bad moments and more likely to forgive/enjoy them.2 star outta 5.
Disappointing.

Summary: They said themselves, "You picked the wrong band to do this"
Review: If you read the review title, you may wonder how it coincides with the rating I gave it. Oh well, on Saturday night, my mom got it for me. I'd say I'm a big Deftones fan, so I thought it would be cool. This DVD was completely different than my expectations. The whole "Music In High Places" thing seems like taking a "hard" band and putting it in a soft setting. Thus creating acoustic renditions and more mellow versions of the original. The one BIG problem I saw with this is that the intensity was not there at all. Something that would seem as a given in a metal concert. But, yet again, read the review title. During the live portion of the show, it seemed that Chino was losing his voice most of the times (Which upsets me, cause I'm seeing them this summer). He just couldn't hold it. But, the whole DVD was beautifully instrumentally. They really know how to play their instruments. I also was upset with the sound quality and camera angles. It seemed so amateur, but it does flow like they apparently wanted to have it as. If you want to get this DVD, think about how you'd want to perceive the Deftones....

Summary: i recommend this dvd to any fans of the deftones
Review: like i said in the title i recommend it to any fan of the deftones but be cautious, dont expect to see chino and co. rocking the crowd. The scenery is nice and the acoustic performances are totally amazing (knife party, this boys republic) they also incorparate the idea of having some of the songs split into part acoustic and part rock performance (digital bath, change)the only thing that stops this dvd getting full marks is chinos voice as u can tell he shuldnt be singing in his condition but other then that its full marks

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great in lieu of an "official" Deftones DVD
Review: Thanks to some punks a few years back; a deftones van was broken into and tons of video footage (among other things) was pilfered. That event effectively ruined hopes for an official DVD from the defontes.

This has been a good replacement. Interviews, acoustic performances, live performances all with the backdrop for Hawaii makes this DVD pretty good. Plus there are interviews with the band members and some really entertaining scenes of them taking a tour of places in Hawaii.

I think Chino may break his throat in this one, but nonetheless, I love the deftones and it was pretty entertaining. Now if they could just release an official DVD...
