Summary: AWESOME DVD
Review: I saw this first on TV and then direct TV so I could not wait to own my own crystal clear copy. This DVD is amazing and exciting for Goo fans. It is about the only "real" DVD we can purchase of them. It not only shows their amazing music but how much fun they are. I mean mudsliding with the local kids? Not all stars would do this and it was quite the site. Very funny!! The scenery of Alaska is beautiful and seeing this also made me think about it as a vacation spot. Johnny, Robby, and Mike, are in rare form in this video and their beautiful music is captured perfectly with the beautiful back drop of scenic Alaska. A MUST HAVE DVD!! LOVE IT!!

Summary: Disappointing DVD Quality
Review: I watched these Music in High Places series on Satellite when they originally were airing them and really loved them. I had hopes they would be released on DVD so i could watch them on my widescreen in high resolution in glorious 16x9 aspect ratio. Unfortunetly whomever produced these DVD's kept them letterboxed in 4:3 ratio and the only way i can watch them widescreen is to zoom in on the picture using my TV's zoom capability. This of course ruins the picture quality.. Very disappointing that they couldn't produce this series properly on DVD so we could truly see the gorgous backdrops while listening to our favorite bands. The music and content of the DVD itself is excellent and i would recommend it highly if you have an older 4:3 television.

Summary: Simply Amazing!!
Review: I'm a real Goo Goo Dolls fan but after watching this DVD, I'm also a fan of Alaska. What a place! The scenery is to die for. It's all so real. Makes it tempting to visit.
The band had an amazing time and you'll have that same amazing time as your watching them. I really enjoy watching this with my family.

Summary: Love this movie.
Review: I've been a Goo Goo Dolls fan for a while now, so when I heard on the radio that they had a DVD, I quickly bought a copy. Out of any place in the world, Alaska seemed to be the perfect place for The Goo Goo Dolls to play. From mud-sliding, to the tear-jerking rendition of "Acoustic #3" on a block of lonely ice, this movie gives you a very good idea of the depth the band members have. They are so humble and honest, and that's a great trait to have in an industry such as this.

I'm glad that they added "You Never Know" to the extras on the DVD. I love this song and love seeing Robby Takac perform with his undeniable energy, despite what people think of his raspy voice, and rock style. You can definately still feel their punk-rock days shine through his songs.

I'm also happy to see "Sympathy" as well. I think the mandolin, and the subtle guitar strumming, brings the relatable lyrics to life. I don't think "Sympathy" could have been written any other way.

I would recommend this DVD to anyone who is a fan of this band, or anyone who liked them during the Dizzy Up The Girl era.

Summary: 30 Miles above the Arctic Circle
Review: Living in Kotzebue, as my wife and I do, we find that perception is a little twisted. There's a lot of sublime business in this town, and not all of it is bad. It's interesting that anyone would want to pick this place, or had even heard of it, for a location to shoot a short film. This town has seen its share of celebrity stardom (KD Lang showed up with a small cast a few years ago for the movie 'Salmon Berries' and there's a tour through town as well as a rumored pass-through of Leonard DeCaprio) so when something like the Goo Goo Dolls show up, well it's exciting, and not all at once. About the most interesting thing that happens is the fact that this city SHUTS DOWN when people and things come to town. Even the school closes (which might say a little about the education standards here). But everyone had a good time, except for the few that had to work that day, even if everyone else was on holiday.

The Kotzebue segment is sugarcoated, as I'm sure it would have to be. And I think that most likely by the end of this year everyone in this town will own a copy of this DVD, just for the sake to say they had a cameo in it at some point or another. And the featured song (that we had to endure that day through a live KOTZ broadcast wasn't a bad single (the first two times we heard it)) but not what the Goo Goo Dolls are known for; they've done better music. But I guess as in age and music, things come to settle down. Just as long as they don't start doing Disney music, they'll be okay. Oh, wait...never mind.

Summary: WHAT A AWESOME IDEA...
Review: Major GGD Fan and of Alaska too. I by accident saw this program on tv. I tried to tape it, only got half of the show and a bad copy. Bought the DVD. Wow, great copy and recording. Watching the dvd brings back memories of being in Alaska again. Anyhoo, I love them & Alaska too. If you are a fan of one or the other, get this now!!! The combination of their music and landscape is unbelievable.

Summary: A correction and praise
Review: One reviewer mistakingly said this DVD was 4:3, but it is actually anamorphic 16:9 aspect ratio. That being said, I was only a passive Goo Goo Dolls fan until I watched this DVD. I bought it mainly because I've hiked in Alaska several times and my ex-wife is a Goo fan. I was knocked out by the musicianship of the band. I expected a typical Unplugged show, but this is more like friends sitting down and playing together for fun, and having a great time with it. I have since purchased all the GGD CDs and learned to play most of the songs on the DVD.
The picture quality is excellent, with only a few minor flaws such as dirt on the camera lens left in the show. The DTS track works very well with my system, sounding like the band is playing in my living room. I consider this a reference DVD that I show to my family/friends to show off my system. I also find my self watching this a lot more than I do movies or other music videos. The extra features are interesting, especially the music only track.

Summary: Northern Lights on the Goo Goo Dolls
Review: The dvd is really a great ensemble; giving access to the Dolls as they have a chance to explore some of what Alaska has to offer, not to mention great acoustic versions of their songs. It's a winner on both counts and dispells a few misperceptions. It shows that Alaska is much more than an empty glacier. And it proves that the Dolls sound great without the synthetic voice processing that it the lifeblood of so many current radio performers. An auditory and visual tour de force: beautiful scenery and awesome music.

Summary: Beautiful Scenery-Alaska & Johnny & Robbie
Review: There's a point in the show where John says something about having to perform death-defying tricks to get people to buy CD's nowadays and he's right, it works. I wasn't a fan until I caught a freeview of this on direct tv. Now I'm a huge fan. My son now makes me play Gutterflower constantly, he loved this DVD too. I saw them at Atlantic City live and now I can't wait to see them again. I also want to go to Alaska now, it wasn't a destination for me before. I'd walk there from NJ if I could go mud surfing with John, Yum! Sorry, you gotta see it to know what I'm talking about. That alone is worth the money.

Summary: Goos in Alaska: Breathtaking Scenery & Music
Review: This DVD is spectacular, with its views of Alaska's ice glaciers, snow covered mountains and clear blue skies. John, Robby and Mike were so personable with the people of Alaska. Their honesty and down-to-earth personalities made it very enjoyable to watch. The best part, of course, was listening to John sing the Goo Goo Dolls most popular songs, like Black Balloon, Slide and the MOST awesome version of "Here is Gone". If you have DTS on your sound system, it will give you goosebumps. You don't have to be just a Goo fan to enjoy this DVD - it is awesome and worth getting!
