Review: it has all a surfer wants to see. taylor steele has put together the best surfers in the world , surfing great waves, and the movie also has a plot. it's a classic.

Summary: Better than most...
Review: This DVD is far better than most, with an actual plot and storyline that most "surfers" will find entertaining. Who knows, an independent-thinking non-surfer might actually sit through this one, much like the Endless Summer films. Quality of picture and sound is high and this is a worthwhile addition to a collection. When you are tired of the "plot," you can select surfing only.

One-quarter or so of this video is action in wetsuit conditions that year-round warm weather surfers may not find engaging or intriguing. More power to the guys that can make small surf look fun, either in the water or on film. Not in wetsuit conditions, Bruce Irons and Slater are exceptional, I wonder why their segments are not longer.

The footage is well mixed and uses a variety of cinematic techniques to keep it interesting even after repeated viewings. [That's why we buy these things, after all, to watch them over and over when we can't surf, isn't it?] Camera work appears to favor the perspective from straight-on, with fewer shots from an angle or showing the surfer from the side. In some of the barrel sequences, some of the surfers' incredible ability to adjust to the barrel is highlighted by this angle. Thankfully, the overused whitewash-on-the-beach & underwater shots are absent. Although a different work, I prefer this DVD to Hit And Run.

If you are looking for "beach life" footage (bikini, etc.), monster wave survival-type sequences, a road map to exotic locations, or commentary on life on the tour (sometimes confused with surfing itself), it is not here.

Summary: A very fun movie
Review: This movie is every thing it was supposed to be, Good surfing, great music, with a few breaks with comic relief. The one thing I like about the Taylor Steele Movies is that there is never nudity or profanity. I watch these with my two young Groms, in fact they watch this movie more than I.
I recomend this movie for the surfing, the skits, and the music. Other films to look at are Hit and Run and Shelter. If you like the comedy part, check out Drive Thru. It is hilarious.

Summary: Not as bad
Review: This movie is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. ... I bought it ... because it contains the current surf stars like Rob Machado and Kelly Slater. I was expecting the sketches between the surfing to be really lame but I must say they're a lot better than I thought they'd be. They are actully entertaining (the first time you see them). In fact, two of them (mechanics with Chris Malloy, and the pizza delivery guy) were quite funny.

The surfing is ok, but it's your run-of-the-mill surf movie with adrenalin-pumping grunge music which I can't stand. I only own 4 surf movies so I actually longed for more artistic shots like water shots, etc. Especially annoying to me is the lack of any slow-motion shots.

It's still an ok movie to watch when it's flat and you're bored. But if you already own Hit and Run you might want to pass on this one, it's the same thing basically, they're both Taylor Steele movies with the same surfers.

Now if you want the best surf movie of the last 30 years, run to get a copy of September Sessions! Get the DVD which has extra footage and The Making Of. It might be a little pricey since it lasts only 26 minutes, but it's well worth it.
