Summary: The Patriots DID win the superbowl!
Review: A great piece of memorabilia to have if you're a Pats fan. I only wish they had some footage from the parade on there, where millions of fans waited hours on the coldest day of the year in Boston to cheer on the World Champions. If you enjoyed a few cocktails like I did, then this will help you "remember" all the important aspects of the SuperBowl.

Summary: Thanks for the Memories
Review: As football season begins anew, enjoy the triumphs of last season's Cinderella team, the New England Patriots. Pats fans and others will enjoy this retrospective of the season, as well as the extra features which include: a wonderful short film about the aftermath of 9/11 in the NFL; the 1976 Patriots; and Steve Grogan's career.

I actually enjoyed the extra features more than main feature. The season highlights missed many important moments, most noticibly in the game against Buffalo which was decided by David Patten recovering a fumble even though he was knocked unconscious during the play. This was completely ignored in the replay of that game, as was the incredible collission that knocked Tom Brady's helmet 20 yards away. The hard hitting nature of that game should have been the focal point, but amazingly went unaccounted for in the video.

Overall, people who did not follow the Patriots closely during the season will enjoy the typically high production values from NFL films. This is a good piece of work and will be enjoyed for years to come as we reflect on this amazing team and thier accomplishments in 2001-02.

Summary: A Truly Outstanding Performance
Review: This team and this region have waited years to bask in the sun and finally our team is World Champion. The spirit, honor, and pride of New England shined on that day like no other place on earth. We have and are a symbol of the American spirit. An outstanding documentary on a truly exciting team. A must have for any football lover. People said we couldn't do it and we did and that is a great thing. It is a lesson to the doubters, only champions believe and prevail.

Summary: Best SuperBowl ever.
Review: Of course, that is the opinion of a New England Patriots fan. The video is a nice recap of the season, though one wishes it could be a bit longer. Some crucial bits of the season are not shown in the video, such as David Patten's leg touching the ball while his head is out of bounds because he was knocked unconscious play in the second Buffalo game. This is the largest selling sports video of all time. NFL Films released a second video for Patriots fans entitled "Three games to Glory" which shows nearly every play from the 3 playoffs games the Patriots won to get to and win the Super Bowl.

Summary: 49ers Fans - always a joke
Review: What a joke. A 49ers fan is in love with the Patriots because they beat the Rams. I guess somebody ought to since the Niners can't, huh. LOL.

Anyway, the Patriots are deserving champions. See you next year when I'm buying the Rams' Super Bowl XXXVII video.

Summary: A most pleasant shock!
Review: I'll just come right out and say it: I wasn't a believer. Although I hoped the New England Patriots™ would do well in the Super Bowl™ against one of my least-favorite NFL™ teams- nothin' makes a 49ers™ fan happier than seein' the Lambs choke, after all- I never gave a second thought to this collection of upstarts having even a remote chance of winning. Fortunately, as the game played on I found myself very pleasantly surprised: not only did they stay with the St. Louis, they shut them down for most of the game! Taking advantage of every opportunity that was literally thrown their way, New England managed to survive a game-tying comeback bid by 'The Greatest Show On Turf'™, then topped it all off with a last-second field goal to capture the championship!

Featuring plenty o' great regular- and post-season highlight snippets, this presentation is NFL Films'™ best DVD production yet! But, despite their laudable efforts, there are a few things about this platter that aggravate me a bit. One in particular is the fact that I can't skip or fast-forward through the opening adverts, which feature Don Shula's plug for the Pro Football Hall of Fame™, and Tiki Barber's 'My Anti-Drug'™ spiel. And I have to concur with my fellow Amazonians that the medieval knights-in-battle opening segment made for a pretty silly lead-in to the main event. Still, I rather enjoyed hearing the many soliloquies about the game by the late, great NFL Films™ narrator John Facenda interspersed with this scene, so it did have its redeeming qualities..

Now I'll dispense with the negatives for a mome and try to get on a more positive track. I've always enjoyed the background music that plays along with the NFL Films™ highlight reels. I found most of the tracks that accompanied the Pats' game-by-game road to glory very enjoyable (especially the tunes covering the Atlanta game and the Super Bowl™ opening kickoff), and I'm hoping they'll see fit to release a few of those cuts commercially one of these days...

The highlights themselves had their ups and downs, pretty much like the Pats' entire season. With a 1-3 start and starting QB Drew Bledsoe hurt, it didn't look like New England was really going anywhere but down and out. But they managed to battle back and play inspired football for the rest of the year, and overcame all sorts of adversity and blah-blah-blah yadda-yadda-yadda and all those other hackneyed & tired sports cliches about the underdog who comes outta nowhere to win it all! My personal fave moments included Dave Patton's run, catch, and pass for TDs against the Colts™, the amazing comeback against Oakland, the inspired special-teams play against the Steelers™ that won them the AFC™ championship, and of course the immortal boot by Adam Vinatieri in the big dance.

Speaking of the divisional playoff against the Raiders™, here's my $0.02 in regarding the infamous call reversal. From my POV It looked like a pump-fake that got jarred loose, not an incomplete pass. But after checking out the bonus featurette on the 1976 Patriots™ (whose season ended with the help of a bad call in the Raiders'™ favor in a divisional playoff) I saw this call as a sort of karmic payback. 'Course, I'm always giddy when I see the Raiders™ lose, bad call or not...

Anyway, enough gabbing about the highlights; time for my spiel about this platter's extra features. Probably the most notable side program of the lot is U2™'s Super Bowl™ halftime show, which includes an inspirational rendition of 'Where The Streets Have No Name'© with the names of the September 11th victims projected on and scrolling up a huge backdrop. The only real downside to this piece was Bono himself- he's lookin' a bit too long-in-the-tooth to still be doin' the youthful-and-dead-sexy front man spiel, especially when he's wearing those roving-reporter-type earpieces that resemble hearing aids. Strangely enough, I found myself eerily entertained by that gawdawful Paul McCartney / Terry Bradshaw duet, and I was hoping NFL Films™ would include it on this platter as a goof. No such luck, I'm afear'd; methinks they'll be filing that one in the sports-lowlight-clips vault right next to Roseanne's hideous rendition of the US National Anthem. Finally, there's the featurettes that pay tribute to Steve Grogan, Gino Cappelletti, and the 1976 New England team, all of which are sure to get even the most testosterone-laden Pats-backer a bit misty!

Summary: Awesome Pats DVD
Review: Great highlight package on the regular season and playoffs; excellent voice overs by Pats announcers and NFL films announcers; the bonus features are must haves for all Pats fans. To the weepy Raiders fans who wrote inane reviews I have two comments: (1) Ben Dreith and (2) the Pats are the Super Bowl Champs, no matter how much you whine!

Summary: Patriotism At Its Finest!
Review: This DVD perfectly captures the individual heroics and selfless teamwork that characterized the 2001 Patriots football season, culminating in the most exciting Super Bowl victory of all time. Footage from training camp and highlights of every regular season game are included. I'm sure most football fans are familiar with the injury to veteran quarterback Drew Bledsoe and the emergence of his young replacement, Tom Brady. This DVD demonstrates that it was not an unstoppable march to the world championship. There were losses along the way and media speculation of a Bledsoe/Brady quarterback controversy. However, everyone pulled together as a team and the Patriots kept improving each week, taking them to the playoffs.

The AFC Divisional game against Oakland, played during a persistent snowstorm, was a timeless classic and a perfect farewell to the old Foxboro stadium. The controversial call as to whether Brady fumbled or threw an incomplete pass is not answered by watching the footage. However you look at it, the Patriots went on to tie and then win the game in overtime with 2 field goals, courtesy of kicker Adam Vinateri. The AFC Championship game played against the Steelers in Pittsburgh demonstrates that the Patriots are a championship caliber team. When Brady was hurt by a cheap shot after he threw the ball, Bledsoe stepped in and guided the team to an upset victory. I love looking at the stunned faces of the Steelers' fans!

For Super Bowl XXXVI, the Patriots were again underdogs. When announced, they chose to take the field as a team, a first in Super Bowl history. I enjoyed watching all of the highlights of the game, even the fourth quarter, when the Rams finally mounted an offense and tied the game. Of course, I knew full well that the Patriots would go on to win the Super Bowl with a last minute field goal. The stirring music, great camera work and exciting visuals all add up to an extremely well made DVD presentation. The DVD also includes bonus features of Patriots' greats Gino Cappelletti, Steve Grogan, the 1976 Patriots, U2's half-time performance, and the NFL salutes America in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks.

AS A FOOTBALL FAN, YOU COULDN'T ASK FOR MORE.
AS A PATRIOTS FAN, I LOVE THE SUPER BOWL'S FINAL SCORE!
