Summary: Just bought it today and wow
Review: Finally something comes out for hockey on DVD. This is a good start for any hockey fan out there. Although Wayne did eliminate my leafs in 93' I still think is the greatest player. The shocking part was that Wayne never passed any of his physicals and that proved knowledge of the game might be more than strength.

It has game footage dont worry about that. I was worried it was going to be all commentary and interviews of Wayne. It has footage of a couple of clips in certain games.
My brother loved Gretzky he was his idol and mine was Cujo(Blues, Oilers, and Leafs then I stopped liking him since he left them). I started to watch hockey because of my brother and was cheering for the kings in 93'(but since then I have been a leaf fan so I wish it went the other way).
Oiler Years for sure was Gretzky's best years. They have to give credit to Jarri Kurri, Glen Anderson, Mark Messier, Kevin Lowe, and Grant Fuhr for greta years.

The overal dvd has so much stuff I have not seen it all yet. I watched it for 2 hours and not done yet. I give it a ranking of 9/10 or 5/5. Go Leafs GO and Oilers

Summary: Superb insight into The Great One!
Review: Great insight into the life on and off the Ice with 2nd Disc giving some great off ice life stories.

Compliments well with previously released Video 'Above and Beyond'.

And for any Non-US/Canada buyers it works perfectly on Multi-Region DVD Players.

Summary: Not enough footage of Gretzky in action
Review: I did not get a chance to watch Gretzky play until he was near the end of his career, so I was looking to this dvd to have significant footage of Gretzky in action. It simply does not.

It does provide insight into Gretzky's thoughts about his career and the NHL in general, which is interesting. Also, some of the bonus footage is decent: e.g., the 2002 Olympics segment (although again, not enough actual hockey footage); behind-the-scenes footage of the Pond of Dreams shoot.

Review: I got this DVD for Christmas from my husband (who wanted it as much as I did). I must admit, I became a fan of hockey only a mere 4 years ago but absolutely fell in love with the sport. I regret that I did not watch the game when Gretzky played but this DVD is full of information neither I nor my husband did not know. Oh, we know he is the greatest, but there are little bits of info we picked up in the DVD. Wayne is such a class act and I would recommend this to any fan of hockey.

Summary: Ultimate review
Review: I would not hesitate to buy this DVD for ANYONE. I thought there was a lot of great Gretzky footage included in the DVD, especially plays that I haven't seen before. For those who think there isn't a lot of footage, please remember, not all Oiler games in the 1980's were broadcast!
I also enjoyed hearing from Kiefer Sutherland, Glen Sather, Craig Simpson and Kevin Lowe in the DVD.
All in all, I loved the stories and the footage. I especially enjoyed the "scenes from the cutting room floor" on the bonus DVD. A nice touch.
This DVD is a must for any Gretzky/Hockey fan.

Summary: Extremely disappointing
Review: I'm extremely disappointed in this so called "Ultimate Gretzky" dvd. This dvd is for new fans only. There is nothing new in terms of highlites, and very little new in terms of anecdotes. What kind of carer retrospective doesn't even mention his time with the Blues? A dvd with 3 hours of footage should have at least a few rarely seen highlites thrown in for the long time fans. I think that I'm even more disappointed by the fact the Wayne himself was one of the producers. I have the Above and Beyond video from 13 years ago and it's above amd beyond this dvd.

Summary: Need more...
Review: Like the other poster said, the video is lacking. There is more time devoted to camera shots in that tropical room than there is to highlights, which, if I recall is the reason this DVD was possible in the first place. I was expecting much more footage, particularly from the Edmonton days. Lots of great stories that could have been delved into, but they weren't even acknowledged.

Why Keifer Sutherland is involved is beyond me. Maybe he's hockey fan, so what? A narrator over the video would have been fine.

Also, you might think 2 discs means lots of footage, but what you have is the wedding fantasy camp, bloopers...the only good things on it are the last game in Canada and the last game, but those are on the first disc.

It seems whoever put this together wanted to show they can package something, and they would rather tell people how great Gretzky was, rather than show it. Case in point: he got 200 points 4 times and they spend about 15 seconds on that fact.

I would recommending purchasing something else as a gift. This collection is not going to satisfy anyone who grew up in those days and wants footage. The SportsCentury on ESPN Classic will give you just as much.

Summary: Very good, but lacking on the essential
Review: Not being an expert on Gretzky's career, I really enjoyed this DVD. It sounds complete (except for Gretzky's time in a Blues uniform)and is more directed towards new and casual hockey fans.

Where I was disappointed, as were many others who submitted reviews before me, was that the DVD did not contained all the amazing plays, many of us got to see only once on the news or during games. Sure they have his career defining goals, which we all saw a thousand times, but few behind the net set-ups or any amazing passes.

There was plenty of room left, which was filled by bloopers and his wedding, where they could have included his 100 most amazing plays for example. Nevertheless, it is a great DVD for any hockey fan. Like one reviewer before me said, you don't need to tell people why Gretzky is called the Great One, all you have to do is show them.
