Summary: I was in awe
Review: I rented this video from the library and a half hour after seeing it I bought it. This is the Jesus who holds my hand in times of trouble, who lets me rest my head on His shoulder while I weep, who carries me in my worst of times. He was not somber and cold while on earth. Yes He was divine while we walked here, but I believe He smiled, He laughed He understood and He understands. This is the Jesus I have always believed in. This movie was well acted, Debra Messing made me cry, her portrayal so strong. Gary Oldman was his usual good self. But Mary and Joseph really blew me away. For once Mary wasn't just at His birth and then the crucifixion, She was a constant presence. I really loved the relationship between Joseph and Jesus. Joseph love for Jesus and vice versa was so bright. Of course the crucifixion was heartbreaking, I have never realized the pain He suffered for my sake. Of course it hurt, of course He screamed!! And the playing of "Pie Jesu" with Mary holding Him in her arms was breathtaking. Please see this movie, think about Christ.

Summary: A True Portrait of Jesus
Review: Of all other portrayals I've seen of Jesus this is the first that I related to and felt was the most honest. True there are scenes that you won't find in the Bible but they do not contradict but rather enchance the rythym and flavor of the Word. I loved this portrayal of Jesus most of all because it delved into his relationships with his parents, Joseph and Mary, it was also one of the first films to show Jesus laughing, dancing and smiling frequently...(the scene with Jesus swinging the child was AWSOME)...the temptations he faced were real. I FELT this Jesus and sadly in other films about Him I simply WATCHED those stories.

Summary: This is a good movie
Review: I have seen many movies about the life of Jesus.I always wondered what if they did a movie that tells the more human side of Jesus.Well they finally did it.this movie is no masterpiece, however it has enough emotion to keep some one intersed. It was good to see a movie that shows the more human side of one man who has had such a impact on the world.

Summary: TERRIFIC! GREAT FOR CHURCH SURMONS!
Review: When I saw this for the very first time, I was amazed at how the filmmakers approached the story. True, it does have some dramatic license, but nothing that occured in this film was beyond the realm of possibility. Jeremy Sisto gives a good performance. I was surprised to hear that he has Buddist leanings (No offense torwards the people who follow this religion, of course.). I'm glad to see Jesus portrayed this way. Most of the people I've seen portray out Messiah were somber, and sad throughout. But Sisto's portrayal is the best I've ever seen. THIS is the personality I think Jesus truly had, and still has today. I really don't think he'd go around moping all the time, until near the time of His crucifixion, which I think would really be the only time he was sad. Great performance by Jerone Krabbe as Satan. I found him to be truly believable. If you would like to know about the life of our Savior, or just like hearing the story, then you'll absolutely enjoy this film, which I consider to be the GREATEST Bible movie of our time. Grade: A+

Summary: 'Jesus' hand in hand with 'alia and the boy'portrayal
Review: This movie is breathtaking in its portrayal of Jesus and the people aorund him. Far more than the waterd down versions seen in Jesus of Nazareth or the older films which see Jesus as sort of a ronald reagan fellow who ran around in the same outfits all day.

Not since the popular 'Alia and the Boy' portrayal of Christ in 'The Crying Savior' or 'Roses for the Mother of Jesus' have we seen such emotion as in the eyes of Jesus' love for Mary, daughter of Lazarus. The important areas left out of most christian films are expressded here as we get a look inside jesus' home and his relationship with his mother and Joseph.

The secondary characters were entertaining. Gary Oldman closely and oddly resembled his Sid Vicious character from the sex pistols movie, Sid and Nancy. and Then there was the lead officer from Police Academy during the whole movie!! ((hey Mahoney))

The same people that have problem with this movei probably swallow their lunch during 'the last temptation of christ' a few years ago. or the same people thats eyes are as big as saucers when they read 'Alia and the Boy.'

Either way, any movie about jesus will surely offend someone. This one, for all its gossip and talk, it actually less likely to offend a true believing christian than that of Jesus of Nazareth, or other religious films.

This film, along with the film version of the musical 'Godspell' are highly recomended. As well as the entire 'Alia and the Boy' book series. All because they dont cater to one denomination, but more toward a little of all of them.

Summary: Finally! THE movie of Jesus for this new century!
Review: Born on 1972, I grew up Catholic and I always thought that the very formal movies about Jesus were fake and boring. Finally, somebody made a very REAL version of the life of Jesus. For the first time I COULD COMPLETELY understand a lot of things I've heard he said, for all my life, without realizing how deep they were. Young people like me, finally can see a movie of a JESUS you can identify with! Excellent Job! Definitely a gift worth giving to all your beloved ones!

Summary: Different than the usual
Review: This film is not your usual portrayl of Jesus Christ. I found it interesting how the writers used Mary's role as mother and the most influential person in Christ's life on earth(as most mothers should be) in helping the young Christ toward his destiny. Mary was the first tabernacle of our Savior and I was pleased that her role was not diminished. The human side of Jesus came through in this movie in addition to the divine side. Personally, I prefer the tradional characterizations of Christ, but this is still worthy to be in anyone's collection of biblical films.

Summary: Average film
Review: Playing the role of the King is impossible in itself. Being 32, I "grew" up with the film Jesus from Nazareth from 1977 (which was/is better). The film Jesus shows most sides of Jesus. I specially like the humanistic side of Jesus in this film. But as many has stated, Jesus was more Holy than this film shows. The films gives the idea that Mary has to convince Him of who He was. Of course, Jesus knew this 100% by His own. The healing of the paralysed man is a very nice scene. Being healed by the Lord myself, I expected to see more than just 2 scenes of healing. After all, He spent 2/3 of His time healing. The version of Beatitudes was a very sloppy one. I do not mean the humouristic side of Jesus (that was realistic enough), but the speech was to short. Keep in mind that the Beatitudes is one of the most important speeches of Jesus. The last part of the film was the best one. Now He is 100% sure of His job, and he walks like a lamb to the cross. It also shows how Jesus was raised from the death is a very nice way. Jesus films is ok to have when non Christians visit you and they want to see a movie. This film is after all not "dangerous" and will suite such a purpose.

Summary: Joyfully Realistic
Review: What an amazing way to share the Joyful side of Jesus! So many times we only see Him being portrayed as a sad and serious, almost angry man! It's was refreshing to finally watch a video that allowed the audience to experience the joyful side of Jesus!

Summary: Very Poor Representation of Jesus
Review: I am almost certain that Hollywood wanted to please each religion with the baptismal scenes. Most religions differ on how to baptist but as a cousin and friend of John the Baptist Jesus would of submerged people when he was baptising them not sprinkle them with water. This was a very watered down secular version of the story of the Jesus. This is not the true character of Jesus he was not a weakminded, easily tempted man that hollywood and nonchristians would like to believe. I understand that there hope was to entertain and englighten people on Jesus but inaccurately portraying Jesus as as a flawed man does not help the cause. For those wanted to know the true character of God visit your local church and read the Book of John in the bible!
